REDEFINING AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

REDEFINING AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

Disintegrating before the eyes of an indifferent American public remnants of the Democrat Party are scrambling to find a common center. Beaten badly in the 2016 presidential election these soldiers of liberalism must now confront their losses in the hallways and conference rooms of history.  Down on their luck is insufficient for them. Their newest escapade is obstructionism.  Government works best when balance and order coexist in the same plane of time. Party leaders and disoriented minions have taken to the media attempting to stretch their withering power by explaining why they are boycotting President Trump’s Cabinet nomination hearings. Excuses for their absence range from a stubbed toe to sudden dementia. A few have tried the race card yet fewer were paying attention to this ancient rhetoric.  Listening to the Senate Minority leader and his tearful presentations challenges the weakess minds amongst us. Trump has triumphed by injecting himself into the opposing party members’ egos causing  visual distress as is apparent on the Minority Leader’s face. We are now at the crossroads of jealousy, envy, insanity and circumspection where no liberal can take sanctuary.

Democracy moves in waves. Flagrant violation of civility, process and Congressional custom are on display as members of the Senate dance around their sole purpose for being in the nation’s capital, performing the peoples’ business.  Democratic principles are not in the forefront in the minds of those who suspend rational thought in pursuit of revenge against the conservative leadership. Ironically the opposing party can dance until they wear out their shoes in a fruitless effort to block confirmation of Trump nominees.  The interrogation intensity of potential Trump appointees has been so vigorous one could extrapolate the examiners are looking for terrorism in their backgrounds. Fumbling with minutia orchestrated attempts to diminish the nomination and or approval process enhances the likelihood the conservative base will use the nuclear option. Meaning a 51 instead of 60 vote count by the Senate can be utilized to seat desperately needed leadership in their respective departments. The path voting will take is all dependent on the minority party.

President Trump chose the best of the best in Judge Neil Gorsuch as the nominee for the highest bench in America. Impeccable background, both in education and work history, he will add flavor to a souring Court. Not so fast say the Democrats as they dig for any dent in Gorsuch’s armor. Perhaps he J walked as a child. Or maybe he made an off the cuff remark concerning pizza indicating a slight against Italians. The latter nonsensical statements illustrate the length to which opposing party members will reach to deter Gorsuch’s nomination. These statements are facetious, no doubt, yet they exemplify the deep hate and demoralization of a party sinking fast. Point being there is no political absolution for those who take a process utilized for centuries to the brink with hardball tactics. President Trump’s continued attempt to move the country forward may be stifled by an embedded Obama mindset still in play. All indications are the President will have his players in place in the very near future with or without help from those who seek only gridlock in Washington.  Point of caution to liberals you are not dealing with a run of the mill president. Donald Trump is an alpha male. He will do whatever it takes to move his agenda forward and if necessary stick it to those who interfere with what is necessary and proper to carry out government function.  God bless America, the President and the people who love and support this nation. God damn those who seek to bring it down.  Mark Davis MD

New Jersey; More Bad News

More bad news for New Jersey surfaced last week as part of the disclosure paperwork released by the state as it prepares for a $535 million dollar general obligation bond issue. In the filings with the SEC it was reveled that the state's pension plans, now subject to new GASB accounting standards, are in much worse shape than previously thought. According to Reuters the funding level is nearly 20 percentage points lower than previously estimated. It is reported at just 44% funding for fiscal 2014.

This new level is even in dispute as an article from John Bury, a state pension expert that created the BuryPensions Blog, claims the funding level is just 32.6 percent of what is promised to government employees.

New Jersey is considered to be among the worst prepared and among the least well funded public pension systems of all states.

It does not take a crystal ball to know that when the stock market experiences a sharp decline or, as many financial pundits expect, the mega crash hits, this low level of funding will likely be catastrophic.

In advance of the pending calamity I think it is reasonable to ask how much this pension system and it's inequities to the private sector is behind the dismal economy and dire loss of opportunity that the people of New Jersey face?

New Jersey; It's You People, Stupid. New Jersey is a poster Child for Liberal Failure.

UPDATE APRIL 12, 2016: BAD NEWS CONTINUES American Legislative Exchange Council's 9th Addition of Rich States Poor States shows New Jersey continues to help hold down the bottom of the list this year declining to 48th worst state. A pitiful performance from what once was a great state. Destroyed by decades of leftwing lies and liberal ignorance. LINK - American Legislative Exchange Council's 9th Addition ------ PREVIOUS: This article published first in 2014 but it still applies - New Jersey people, you should be embarrassed. More bad news for New Jersey, again ranked as one of the highest taxed and worst performing economies in the nation according to the Tax Foundation study released last month. Add to that  the mounting evidence outward migration is increasing. Continuing decline is in your tarot cards.

My most recent U-Haul rate study indicates it is 3.86 times more expensive to leave New Jersey for Austin Texas than it is to go to New Jersey from Austin Texas. Nearly 4 time more expensive getting out than getting in. What's that tell you?

That is a 53% increase in the U-Haul costs from this same time last year.

Granted, it is not a scientific study, all the same, people are leaving New Jersey at a staggering rate. I have run this study 2 times a year for the past 4 years. It has never been this bad.  In fact it has been fairly stable at a 2.5 times ratio for the past two years right up through June 2014 when I ran the study last. Since then we see this jump, a spike in getting the hell out.

The study though not scientific is a fair indication of the effects of supply and demand. It focuses on the U-Haul rates to and from Austin Texas and several key areas, Northern California, Chicago, Illinois and Wayne, New Jersey.  Three areas ranked as having excessive regulatory and anti business climates.

Is it just the high taxes and regulatory climate?  No, I don't think so, New Jersey has lots going against it in addition to high taxes. For one thing there is a crooked croniness in NJ, an embedded corruption that permeates the society. Northern New Jersey where I went to High School has developed a culture of "Me, Me, Me". A selfish, ignorant callousness of much of the population combined with an intellectual laziness. That narcissistic culture is particularly annoying, people just didn't care about anything outside their self-centered personal worlds.

It is ironic that the generation of peace and love that grew out of the 60s and 70s has become the generation of "I don't care...it's all about Me, Me, Me".

It is this self absorption on steroids that undermines the sense of community that is now it is coming home to roust.

Why do I dwell on this issue, New Jersey the poster child of liberal failure?

There is an old adage; you can not fix a problem unless you identify the problem. In decades of civic involvement  in Chambers of Commerce and in other 'quasi' government organizations I've seen and experienced  repeated patterns. The same situation plays out over and over again.   Critical social problems are obfuscated and faux efforts at solutions deployed. It's an organized, intentional form of social insanity.  If you continue to  do the same thing over and over again and expect different results - we all have heard it, that is insanity.

Back to the old adage, you can not fix a problem unless you identify the problem. The problem is the intentional efforts of the progressive leadership.  The culture that grows from progressive liberalism which I think many of us believe is the center of New Jersey's and much of America's problems. That is why I dwell on it. The problem is the type of people that lead areas like New Jersey and Northern California and Urban Illinois. It's the people, Stupid.

When you create a society that is blinded to itself it is easy to control that society and that is what progressives have done to the people of New Jersey and much of liberal America. Progressives have transferred the responsibility of awareness from the people and replaced it with a sense of entitlement. With the entitlement there is little reason to think beyond ones self interest hence the perspective of "whats in it for me?" Progressive liberals campaign on that premise and the self absorberd buy it. . .

If you want to fix this problem you have to call it out, you have to point the finger of blame, you have to put the cause on notice. It's the people, stupid.

Simple answer: If you don't want their fate, don't do what they do.

That is why I dwell on it. I want the people causing the problem to be spotlighted for what they are.

It's the liberals, Stupid.

Voters sent a message on November 2nd,
but did Washington hear it?

Commentary by James H. Shott

Just how important was last week’s election? Well, a list of the damage includes Republicans picking up at least 63 seats in the House of Representatives, more than in any election since 1938, leaving Democrats with the smallest number in the House since 1946. Fifty incumbent Democratic congressmen lost their races, including 22 freshmen, nine senior Democrats with 18 years or more in office, and three committee chairs.

Republicans also gained six seats in the US Senate, narrowing the Democrat majority.

The North Carolina General Assembly went Republican for the first time since 1870, and the Alabama Legislature turned Republican for the first time since 1876.

The Maine and Minnesota Senates flipped to Republicans, and the Texas and Tennessee Houses went from virtually tied to large Republican gains.

Both houses of the Wisconsin and New Hampshire legislatures flipped to the GOP by wide margins, and Republicans won governorships in Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Wyoming, all of which currently are run by Democrats, and the GOP won 23 of the 37 contests for governor, and will control 29 of the country’s 50 statehouses.

All those who decried the public opinion polls that pretty consistently predicted this result will have trouble ignoring the strong anti-Democrat message of November 2. Despite this result, there are still those who recognize that voters were angry, but completely misunderstand why they were angry and at whom their anger was directed.

President Barack Obama correctly called it “a shellacking,” even though he misunderstood why it had occurred. Initially, he attributed the walloping to people not understanding all of the wonderful benefits of the health care takeover, cap and trade taxes that will raise the cost everything under the sun, and other big government measures because the administration just didn’t communicate effectively.

Others on the left offered reasons such as “slower than expected job growth,” and “the economy didn’t improve fast enough,” but those aren’t the reasons behind this ballot box revolution, they are symptoms of the faulty liberal policies of the Democrats, and those policies are why people are upset. They arise from the belief that government is the answer to all problems, but their failure proves the fallacy of that belief.

However, while this reality escapes the big government politicians in both major parties, the people realize big government not only has failed, but is highly undesirable, and they are fed up with the current incarnation of the federal government: its size, its out-of-control spending and its increasing intrusion into their lives.

"It's very clear that nationwide we have a movement … a mandate to make sure the federal government gets reversed in its growth. Not just slowed down, but completely changed out in a way that we have increased power to the [states],” according to Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller.

Clearly, voters gave the GOP as good an opportunity as it could hope for. But how many Republicans also failed to get the message that Democrats so plainly missed? Will Republican incumbents in Congress transform from establishment politicians into true servants of their constituents? Do they understand that voters told them to re-establish limited government principles; to undo dangerous liberal policies?

Florida Republican Marco Rubio, who defeated the Democrat Governor running as an independent and a Democrat candidate to win the Senate seat, gets it: “We make a great mistake if we believe somehow these results are an embrace of the Republican Party; what they are is a second chance. A second chance to be what Republicans said they were going to be not so long ago.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that “Republicans must take their responsibility to solve the problems of ordinary Americans,” and that saying “no” is not the answer. “It has to be ‘yes.’ Not our ‘yes,’ but a combined ‘yes,’ something we work out — a consensus ‘yes,’” he said.

Well, how magnanimously bipartisan of Mr. Reid. Had he been open to Republican input before, there is every possibility that some useful legislation would have been passed before now.

But Sen. Reid, President Obama and the other Democrats in Washington had better get a firm hold on the new reality, which is that voters screamed a message last week that they want changes in how their government operates.

They don’t like the dangerous stimulus spending, government takeover of banks and auto companies, the health care reform bill, and the way it was conceived in dark backrooms and jammed through without any Republican input or support, the proposed cap and trade bill that everyone except Washington Democrats realizes will further cripple the economy, and the general attitude among the political class that they know better than the people what is best for them.

The job Republicans were given is to save the country from the chaos that the liberal-controlled government produced, and to give the people what they want: a government based upon principles of smaller, less intrusive, constitutional government, and return to America the balance between the private sector and the public sector that enabled the country to grow and prosper.

We have turned our country into something
its Founders would not recognize

Commentary by James H. Shott

Things are terribly off course in the United States, and have been moving in the wrong direction for so long that many Americans not only don’t really realize it, they have come to believe this condition is normal and proper.

Here are two examples demonstrating how absurd things have become, both involving Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, although she is by no means the only one who warrants being cited.

Back during the uproar over the proposed health care reform bill, when opponents were complaining that the 2,700-page bill was too large to be read and understood before it was voted on, and that it contained features whose results were poorly researched, Ms. Pelosi told us that we “have to pass the bill so that you can find out what’s in it,” and did so with a smile on her face, without so much as a hint that she appreciated the absurdity of that comment.

A majority of Americans have expressed their opposition to the proposed Islamic center in New York, close enough to the Twin Towers that the building on the site where the mosque will be built was damaged badly enough to render it unfit for occupancy by wreckage from the planes hitting the World Trade Center. That is, in fact, the only reason that property was available for the mosque project in the first place.

The most valid of that opposition, of course, comes from the families and friends of the innocent people who were murdered in the attack, or whom we saw on TV jumping to their death to avoid being incinerated, and the police and fire fighters who died trying to save them. But there are others whose legitimate opposition to construction of the Cordoba House within the zone of 9-11 damage focuses on the fact that it is a painful reminder of the attack perpetrated by people worshiping the same god of Islam as the project’s proponents.

Speaker Pelosi suggested that there ought to be an investigation to discover what sinister force is behind the opposition, and how “this [is] being ginned up.”

The founders of this once-great nation must be spinning in their graves as a high elected federal government servant seriously contends that the American people can’t know what’s in important legislation until it has been passed into law, and that bills before the Congress are routinely hundreds or thousands of pages long and often haven’t been read before being voted on, and that normal Americans expressing their thoughts about important events and issues would be the subject of a federal investigation for their actions.

We seem to have traveled through a wormhole into an alternate universe, where black is white and common sense has been stood on its head, along with our country’s founding principles. It is the stuff of a Mel Brooks movie, just as absurd as High Anxiety or Blazing Saddles, though not at all funny.

Those brave men and women who mutually pledged to each other their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to fight for and win freedom from the oppressive rule of the British Crown and establish a small and limited government focused on individual liberty would be bewildered by the gargantuan, intrusive, inefficient and wasteful bureaucracy that has evolved over the 230-plus years since their brave sacrifice. Could they ever have intended a government that would tell farmers how much wheat they can grow; dictate that every American must purchase a particular sort of health insurance, whether they want it or not; regulate how much water pressure your shower can use and what kind of light bulbs you can buy; and require average Americans to work more than 25 percent of the year – 99 days – just to pay their taxes?

Would they condone the federal government abandoning one of its major responsibilities – preventing the illegal entry into the country by millions of people, and protecting its citizens from those illegals that have violent and criminal intentions? Would they agree with taking a state to court, when in the face of federal incompetence that state attempts to protect itself and its legal residents from this onslaught of illegal aliens?

How would they react to government officials and other Americans branding citizens who rise up in constitutionally protected opposition to an out-of-control federal bureaucracy and to events with which they strongly disagree as “Nazis,” and “homophobes,” and “racists?” Indeed, was it not this same sense of protest at government oppression that brought on the American Revolution?

Whatever happened to Jefferson’s dictum, “that government is best that governs least?”

Someone once said that the country is never in greater danger than when Congress is in session, and when the House, the Senate and the White House are under the control of the same political party, that danger is magnified immensely.

The elected servants in Washington are grossly out of touch with the people they were sent there to serve. They are not listening to us, they are dictating to us, and it’s time for a change.

At the Heart of American Politics is -- the Barbershop!

At the Heart of American Politics is -- the Barbershop!
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
***********************

In my small North Carolina community, when you really want to know what’s going on, if you really want to take the pulse of local, state and national politics, you go to the local barbershop.

For me, a trip to my local barbershop is a stimulating, invigorating, experience. I just climb up into the chair and allow the conversation to wash over me, and occasionally, I toss a few tidbits of my own into the steady stream of political commentary that is almost always well informed, politically incorrect, and surprisingly candid and -- quite accurate.

I have often wondered why politicians, who need to be plugged into the thought processes of their constituents, do not deliberately visit barbershops in their districts and really learn what is on the minds of their constituents. If there is one single place where politicians can learn how their constituents feel -- on any issue -- it is the local barbershop. The barbershop is the one place they can visit and get an education, quickly.

My most recent visit to my own barbershop revealed the open disgust with which my neighbors hold the Obama Regime and the current Congress. What was somewhat surprising was the depth of that disgust. It was as though they spat out the name of the President and the names of certain members of Congress, as one would expectorate something that had a horrible taste. The disdain in which my neighbors hold the Obama Regime is bone deep. They cannot wait for the election in November to send our national leaders a clear and concise message. Simply stated the message is: “Be gone!”

It is not only disgust and disdain, it is anger — deep, swirling, writhing, white-hot anger -- at the way the current Congress and the Obama Administration have dragged our country from the pinnacle of world leadership to the depths of humiliation and mediocrity. Their disbelief in American Exceptionalism lends credence to the average American’s belief that our current leadership simply does not like America.

What was once a creeping realization that we now have a socialist government in America has sped up and blossomed into an epiphany, of a sort. My neighbors now understand that with the passage of ObamaCare America joined the ranks of the pitiful socialist countries “circling the drain” all over the planet.

The old fashioned neighborhood barbershop is one of the last locales to which men can retire -- and just be men. They discuss hunting, fishing, sports, cars, war, and politics. Of course, they discuss other things, which we will not mention because this is a family column. For the past few months politics has been the reigning topic of discussion above all others.

On my most recent visit to by barbershop the topic of discussion was, as usual politics. Someone raised the question of whom the Republicans would nominate to run for President in 2012. It is interesting that no one present felt that any one of the “usual suspects” would be acceptable to the GOP voters. In fact, the general feeling was that the nomination of any of those involved in past campaigns would simply lead to another four years of Obama as President. That included both Palin and Romney. In fact, it was agreed that Palin was damaged beyond repair and was now unacceptable as a candidate on a national GOP ticket. Not one participant in the discussion could offer the name of a single republican with a snowball’s chance in Hades of winning against Obama in 2012.

It was a telling moment. What it said to this scribe was this: the GOP had better begin a search for a candidate the republican voters will support. If they do not, then the GOP should be prepared for their base to stay home, again, on Election Day.

The conservative wing of the GOP has decided they will no longer “settle” for a candidate who cannot prove his/her conservative credentials. They will no longer vote for the “lesser of two evils.” They will no longer settle for another RINO candidate. If that means losing to the democrats, then so be it. It is not considered a “purity test” of any kind. The Mainstream Media should understand that out here in the hinterlands, honesty with oneself and one’s neighbor is STILL considered a virtue -- AND a matter of personal honor.

The RNC and the DNC could learn a lot from the customers at my barbershop -- if they were willing to learn. The trouble is, I believe, the GOP is now being controlled (as is the Democratic Party) by a group of “elites” who feel they know better than the rank and file electorate. In the case of the RNC -- the plain truth is – they don’t.

If the GOP is really serious about retaking this nation’s government from the socialists, then they need to visit my barbershop and listen. Then put to use what they learn.

In the meantime, I’m not holding my breath.

Is the Obama Regime About to Confiscate Your Savings?

Is the Obama Regime About to Confiscate Your Savings?
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
****************

There is no question but that The Obama Regime has plans for your savings. Obama’s Treasury Department and even the Labor Department are already investigating "the conversion of 401(k) savings and Individual Retirement Accounts into annuities or other steady payment streams."

Ok, let me see if I can break it down for you. What Obama is planning to do is: Take you savings, the money you have squirreled away for your retirement in 401-K’s and IRA’s, and hand you an IOU with which they will promise to pay you a small annuity each month of your retirement.

Got your attention yet?

I am not making this up! Businessweek magazine is reporting on it.

Don’t think they can do it? Does the government raiding the social security trust fund ring any bells? They took every dime of that money and left an IOU in its place.

Oh, they’re going a take your money. Make no mistake about that -- and they intend to spend it, almost immediately, to try to offset the trillion dollar plus deficits, which will, of course, leave the government coffers empty again. So, then, YOU and I will be broke right along with our pathetic, hapless, government.

Now, they are not going to tell you that. In fact, they will probably tell you they will be investing your money in Treasury bonds, or some such.

There is some thought that the process will begin by the Treasury Department making it optional for you to purchase Treasury bonds with your retirement money. (Aren’t we free to buy Treasury bonds any time we want today?)

As I said above, I am not making this up! The House Education and Labor Committee met last fall and they focused on "redirecting (IRA and 401k) tax breaks to a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute."

It surely appears the Obama Regime is going to war against seniors in America. Why do I say THAT? Well, seniors have accumulated the most wealth in America, when you average it out, simply because they have been around the longest. When the left speaks of their attacks on the rich, they really mean attacks on the seniors of America.

What we are seeing, dear reader, is socialism in action. We have been telling you for months now that the current US Government IS a socialist government. Maybe you’ll believe it when your 401k and/or your IRA account is wiped out by the socialist Obama Regime.

Look, the democrat/socialist/Marxist/Progressive government of the US is looking for money anywhere they can find it. They know there are, very likely, multi-billions of dollars in 401k and IRA accounts owned by the citizens of the US. Do not kid yourself for one moment. They are going to seize that money.

"Oh, but they can’t do that," you say. "That’s MY money. It is private property!" Well, normally, you would be right. That is to say, IF we had a government that recognized the US Constitution as anything but an outdated bunch of suggestions, you’d be right. Unfortunately, that is not the reality we live in today in America.
The democrats’ inspiration for this theft (call it anything you like, but it IS THEFT!) comes from the South American nation of Argentina. You see, back in 2008 Argentina nationalized the private retirement funds of their citizens on the grounds that "the private system never achieved what was needed."

Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, is reported to have said the following: " … the savings rate isn't going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that's not generating what we now say it should."

Again, simply put – the US government is going to take our retirement money and make us a worthless promise to pay us some sort of monthly payment during our retirement years.

"House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created "guaranteed retirement accounts" for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return." You may read the entire article HERE.

There are some among us, even conservatives, who believe that confiscating the retirement money of America’s seniors is beyond the pale -- even for the Obama Regime. I am not among them. I’d have to ask, if they were not considering it -- then why do what they have already done? I refer you to a paragraph above in which we reported the following: "The House Education and Labor Committee met last fall and they focused on "redirecting (IRA and 401k) tax breaks to a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute." See what I mean? The Obama Regime is certainly exploring the possibility of doing just what we are warning you about today.

How serious is this possibility. Well, it is serious enough that we are hearing unconfirmed reports that some Americans have already stopped acquiring money in their 401k's and IRA's and are buying, instead, precious metals such as gold and silver. You see, precious metals are tangibles. You can touch them, and see them, and feel them -- and -- better yet, they are untraceable by the Obama Regime.

Kim Priestap writes, at wizbangblog.com, the following: “Ever since Barack Obama was elected, we've seen larger and larger chunks of American life being gobbled up by government. Today's Democrats are nothing more than thug socialists who can't stand that there are still large swaths of the American people still living independently from government largesse and control. Now they are using what remaining power they have in Congress to change that. If the government takes over health care, college student loans, and retirement savings then no one, no matter how wealthy, can escape the thumb of big government.”(You may read the entire article HERE.)

In a little over a year, the Obama Regime has taken America from a glorious constitutional “representative” republic, to a “Banana Republic.” This is socialism, dear reader.

We have warned, until we are blue in the face, socialism rots a nation’s soul. In the past few months, under the Obama Regime, America has become a hollowed-out husk of its former self.

As the Mid Term Election approaches Americans need to “suck it up” and go to the polls determined to save America from the socialist/Marxist/Progressive/democrats now transforming our precious country into a socialist dung heap.
