Odds and ends: Random thoughts on the passing scene

The Center for Immigration Studies released a detailed report that correlates high levels of illegal/legal immigrant poverty as contributing to the increase in welfare programs in the U.S.
 
A study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform shows that illegal immigration costs U.S. taxpayers about $113 billion a year at the federal, state and local level. About $84 billion is absorbed by state and local governments.
 
Strong border control by the federal government, and eliminating federal interference with state efforts to control illegal immigration could substantially reduce this wasteful expense.

The Heritage Foundation reported last year that “Texas created 37 percent of all jobs since the beginning of the economic recovery, more than any other state. Excluding New York and Pennsylvania, Texas has created nearly as many jobs as all other states combined.”
 
According to Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, “Texas is doing so well relative to other states precisely because it has rejected the economic model that now prevails in Washington. … Texas stands out for its free market and business-friendly climate.”
 
Among other factors, Texas has right-to-work laws, ongoing tort reform, has no state income tax, and has generally been a fiscally responsible state. As a percentage of its economy, the state’s budget is lower than the majority of other states.

“I don’t think Mitt Romney understands what he’s done to people’s lives by closing the plant,” Joe Soptic, a former employee at GST Steel in Kansas City, said in a Democrat PAC TV spot. He says he lost his health care, and then his wife became ill and died shortly after that.
 
The Washington Post reports, however, that Republican candidate Romney left Bain Capital two years before the GST’s 2001 bankruptcy; Politico notes that Ranae Soptic died in 2006, long after the plant closed; and CNN reports that at some points during that time she had insurance through her own employer.
 
Hmmm.
 
Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said in an interview with the Huffington Post recently that someone had called him to tell him that Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for 10 years. "Harry, he didn't pay any taxes for 10 years," Reid recounted the person as saying. "He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain," Senator Reid said.
 
A very good friend of mine who lives and works in Washington, DC, called me after hearing this, and said that “ol' Harry has been seen frequently peeking in Nancy Pelosi's windows and eating at Chick-fil-A.” Well, that’s what he said.
 
Paraphrasing a popular saying, there are lies, damned lies, and the Obama campaign.

Voter-registration forms being mailed to Virginia residents are addressed to dead relatives, children, family members in other states, non-U.S. citizens, people with similar names, existing registered voters and residents' cats and dogs.
 
These forms are among tens of thousands being distributed in Virginia by Voter Participation Center, a Washington-based national voter-registration group. The organization pre-populates the documents with key information, including names and addresses of prospective voters. This worries election officials, who say the mailings can create opportunities for voter fraud.
 
But, of course, Attorney General Eric Holder opposes requiring voters to show proof of their eligibility, saying that doing so would suppress voter participation.

Anyone who has spent much time watching the Olympics likely believes that the success of the remarkable people on the American team is due to a lot of individual dedication and hard work. 
 
However, the success of American Olympic athletes and the success of American small businesses are analogous. 
 
Like business people who didn’t build the roads, and other infrastructure that they used to make their companies successful, the Olympic athletes didn’t build the training facilities or the fields and courts that they utilized to become successful in their sport, and they didn’t start the Olympic Games that they now participate in.
 
They didn’t earn those medals. Somebody else did that.

Seeking to rally a crucial constituency, President Barack Obama on Wednesday warned women in swing-state Colorado that Mitt Romney and the Republicans “want to take us back to the policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st century.”
 
Ah, yes, the 50s, when health care costs were so low you didn’t need health insurance (and it wasn’t even available); where you didn’t call the doctor or go to the hospital unless you were really sick; where doctors made house calls; a day in the hospital cost tens of dollars; healthcare was about 5 percent of GDP; “prospecting” lawsuits didn’t exist ... some things back then were way better than today.
 
A new Congressional Budget Office report says that under Obamacare, 30 million non-elderly Americans will remain without health insurance in 2022.
 
Wasn't the whole reason for Obamacare destroying our healthcare system to insure the uninsured?

Obama Admin Orders ICE Not To Cooperate With Arizona Immigration Law

Immediately after the Supreme Court ruled to allow Arizona law enforcement to ask for documentation from individuals lawfully detained for another reason, reports show the Obama administration suspending immigration agreements with Arizona.

Via Washington Times:

The Obama administration said Monday it is suspending existing agreements with Arizona police over enforcement of federal immigration laws, and said it has issued a directive telling federal authorities to decline many of the calls reporting illegal immigrants that the Homeland Security Department may get from Arizona police.

Administration officials, speaking on condition they not be named, told reporters they expect to see an increase in the number of calls they get from Arizona police — but that won’t change President Obama’s decision to limit whom the government actually tries to detain and deport.

“We will not be issuing detainers on individuals unless they clearly meet our defined priorities,” one official said in a telephone briefing.

The official said that despite the increased number of calls, which presumably means more illegal immigrants being reported, the Homeland Security Department is unlikely to detain a significantly higher number of people and won’t be boosting personnel to handle the new calls.

“We do not plan on putting additional staff on the ground in Arizona,” the official said.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that Arizona may not impose its own penalties for immigration violations, but it said state and local police could check the legal status of those they have reasonable suspicion to believe are in the country illegally.

That means police statewide can immediately begin calling to check immigration status — but federal officials are likely to reject most of those calls.


First the Obama administration attempted to sue Arizona to stop them from doing their job of protecting their state from illegal immigration and when the High Court gave  Arizona a partial victory, on appeal, over their sovereignty, Obama now refuses to do his own job in protecting the country.

[Update] Arizona's Governor Jan Brewer's reaction to Obama's continued "assault" on AZ:

“I believe that this Supreme Court unanimously upheld the section that it is the heart of the bill,” she said. “It’s a victory for the rule of law and the 10th amendment.”

By the same token, Brewer recognized the threat implicit in the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to suspend cooperation with Arizona state authorities via 287(g) task force agreements. “This continued assault on the state of Arizona in regards to illegal immigration has been totally unfortunate,” Brewer said. “The bottom line is that the feds need to step up and do their job and secure our border so we can work on other issues that are a result of the borders not being secured.”

Brewer was deeply upset at the new round of federal pressure on Arizona. “At every turn,” she said, “we see the federal government putting their finger down on other places … They rescinded the 287(g) for all law enforcement in the state of Arizona immediately after this ruling came out. They’re taking away the ability for us to work hand in hand with ICE. So now instead of being able to access the [citizenship] database we’re going to have to call in and go through ICE to verify if somebody’s illegally in the state or not. That’s an assault on Arizona. And it was only rescinded in the State of Arizona.”

Did The New York Times Change Their Headline And Article Wording To Protect Obama On Amnesty Decision?

Reminder of the Republicans' messaging on Obama's amnesty decision:

It would be nice if the president was as concerned about the 23 million Americans looking for work in America as he is about the 12 million undocumented individuals the president claims are looking for work in America," Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) added.


While writing the previous piece I ran across a New York Times article which had a changed headline after publishing and changed content within the article and it made me question whether those changes were made to protect Barack Obama after his controversial decision to grant amnesty to 800,000 illegal immigrants and offer them indefinite work permits here in the United States.

Original Headline from New York Times, dated June 18, 2012:  Many American Workers are Underemployed And Underpaid". NYT changed that headline to "Lost in Recession, Toll on Underemployed and Underpaid."

Not only did the NYT change the headline but a screen shot of the yahoo search result shows they also changed the wording within the article:

Strange that they took out the words "American Workers" from their headlines and "Americans" from the original written article? Yes or no?

Liberal U.S. media working to subvert Mitt Romney’s candidacy

The experiences of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney last week illustrate how the media fail to provide adequate, objective and balanced coverage of serious campaign issues.

Campaigning in Colorado last week, Mr. Romney gave an interview to a local TV reporter, no doubt wanting to talk about his ideas for combating the horrible economic conditions, the need for jobs, and other weighty problems that threaten the nation.

The reporter began by asking about Mr. Romney’s inability to connect with Colorado Republicans, and following his 24-second answer then moved to same-sex marriage. Mr. Romney gave what he said was the same answer to this question as he has given from the beginning. The reporter then asked follow-up questions on that same subject. After two minutes of questions and answers on same-sex marriage, the reporter then asked if illegal aliens should receive in-state tuition. And then after that she asked Mr. Romney about medical marijuana.

So, given the opportunity to interview the likely Republican nominee for the office of President of the United States, a local reporter spends three minutes of the four and one-half minute interview asking about social issues.

Mr. Romney had about all he could stand, so he protested, since medical marijuana, same-sex marriage and tuition for illegals are neither the most important issues facing the nation, nor something about which a President of the United States should be concerned, since they are state issues.

And, indeed, there are obviously more important issues needing attention, such as the $16 trillion national debt that runs to $50,000 for every one of the more than 300 million Americans. How about the highest corporate tax rate in the world that makes U.S. corporations less competitive in the world market? How about the 16 percent of American workers – about 13 million, all together – that can’t find a job at all, or are underemployed? What about a nuclear Iran, and the mess in Afghanistan? How about the fact that the Democrats in charge of the U.S. Senate have shirked their obligation to pass a budget for three straight years?

None of that seemed important to the reporter, but she finally did get around to asking questions about energy.

While the Colorado reporter was focusing on less relevant topics, the intrepid investigators at The Washington Post were busy looking into Mr. Romney’s high school days, searching for archaic dirt. And, they found some.

Some of the former governor’s high school classmates from 1965 said that he had indulged in boyish behavior, and one incident allegedly involved forcibly cutting the long blonde hair of a boy a year younger than Mr. Romney, who the classmates said may have been gay. If true, this was clearly wrong and indefensible. But it was nearly 50 years ago in high school, and appears to be an isolated incident. Yet, The Post thought it was important enough for 5,000 words starting on page 1 above the fold. And since then these allegations have “evolved” into proof that Mitt Romney was a homophobic bully. He also is accused of pulling classmate Susie Jones’ hair in the third grade.

The Post’s crack investigators successfully found this 47 year-old story about Mr. Romney (13 times longer ago than the last budget passed by our Democrat-controlled Senate), but gave little attention to Barack Obama’s history with former members of the Weather Underground and his admitted “enthusiastic” drug use, and were unable to find any information about his mysterious college days, including his grades, his formal papers, his days at the Harvard Law Review, his friends, etc.

Some people’s past apparently deserves closer scrutiny than others. You can understand why The Post might regard Mr. Romney’s past as more important: he’s running for President.

It is relevant to note that the family of John Lauber, the victim of Mr. Romney’s alleged brutish haircut, is appalled that their relative would be used for political purposes. His older sister, Christine, was unaware that Mitt Romney, or anyone else, “bullied” her brother, who passed away from liver cancer in 2004, but she was clearly not pleased by the story. “Even if it did happen, John probably wouldn’t have said anything,” she said. “If he were still alive today, he would be furious.”

“The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda,” she said. “There will be no more comments from the family.”

The treatment of Mitt Romney in 2012 and the treatment of Barack Obama in 2008 couldn’t be more different. In the Romney story, an unproved allegation of bullying gets front page treatment from The Washington Post, but admitted drug use, et al, by Barack Obama goes virtually unreported.

By emphasizing peripheral issues like same-sex marriage, illegal alien tuition, medical marijuana, and high school behavior, the liberal media distracts attention from President Obama’s dismal record on the critical economic problems. And in the attempt to discredit Mr. Romney, The Washington Post story denigrates John Lauber’s memory and upsets his family, presumably because of its obligation to inform the public. Well, about some things, anyway.

You can’t make this stuff up: reality is often stranger than fiction

A couple of items recently in the news illustrate the weirdness of some of the ideas that are put forth for serious consideration these days, and that actually gain support from some Americans.

Labor unions in Indiana are upset over the state’s recently passed right-to-work law. According to the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, a right-to-work law “affirms the right of every American to work for a living without being compelled to belong to a union. Compulsory unionism in any form – ‘union,’ ‘closed,’ or ‘agency’ shop – is a contradiction of the Right to Work principle and the fundamental human right that the principle represents.”

Individual freedom such as the option not to belong to a labor union was a fundamental component of the United States Constitution, but that concept has Indiana’s unionists all out of sorts. They fear the new law will cause a decline in union membership, something that is so far not supported by the data in other right-to-work states. Nevertheless, Indiana unions recently filed a suit to overturn the law. The suit cites two reasons that the law violates the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude. First, the suit complains that it requires dues-paying union members to work alongside non-dues-paying workers, terming that condition “compulsory service and/or involuntary servitude within the meaning of the amendment.”

Translation: If all workers are not forced to join the union, union workers effectively become slaves.
The second point, however, seems a fair criticism: that it is unfair to force “unions to furnish services to all persons in bargaining units that it represents, but it may not require payment for those services,” and once again they make a “slavery” connection. However, this complaint is even more foolish than the first one, since the unions asked for and received monopoly rights over collective bargaining, meaning they asked to be the bargaining agent for all workers, and were granted that status. You cannot rationally seek and accept the monopoly right to bargain for everyone, and then complain that representing non-union members effectively makes slaves out of union members.

Moreover, if we are talking about slavery, it is a far more persuasive argument that forcing workers to join the union and pay dues in order to have a job makes slaves of those who prefer not to join the union.
Next, in an irrational effort at political correctness (excuse the redundancy), the Applied Research Center (ARC) and its news site, Colorlines.com, are demonizing Americans who use perfectly proper language to accurately describe a law-breaking activity.

“Drop the I-Word” is a movement that attempts to do through distraction and demagoguery what rational thinking precludes. The “i-word” – illegals – is “a harmful slur,” according to the ARC, “a racially charged slur used to dehumanize and discriminate against immigrants and people of color regardless of migratory status. The i-word is shorthand for ‘illegal alien,’ ‘illegal immigrant’ and other harmful terms,” it says. The organization hopes that a majority of Americans will fall for this grand fraud that attempts to persuade us that the criminal act of people who sneak into the United States is really not a crime.

Somewhere in the Great Beyond George Orwell is smiling.

By accurately labeling the method willfully chosen by illegal immigrants to enter the U.S., the ARC asserts that we are denying people “basic human rights.” “No human being is illegal,” it proclaims. That may be true, but human beings can do illegal things, and sneaking into the country is one of them, thus the completely appropriate terms “illegal alien” and “illegal immigrant.”

Like the Indiana unions, the ARC does identify one piece of truth: “Immigrants without documents are regularly hired as cheap, exploited labor.” But this is not a result of correctly labeling them “illegal,” it results from the failure of the federal government to stem illegal immigration by enforcing immigration laws and guarding our borders. Businesses cannot hire and exploit illegal immigrants unless they are available to be hired and exploited.

Taking this absurdity to its illogical extreme, a video posted by the radical leftist organization MoveOn.org says calling illegal immigrants “illegal” fits the definition of a hate crime and calls for the word to be banned when used in the context of immigration. Rather than discuss the pros and cons of this issue, MoveOn.org prefers to silence the opposition, or better yet, imprison opponents to keep them from challenging goofy ideas like this one.

For Indiana unionists, apologists for illegal aliens/immigrants, and others inhabiting this strange other-world, working beside non-union workers is “slavery,” and illegal aliens are not illegal. Fitting nicely into this madness is the case of a Muslim U.S. Army officer crying "Allahu Akbar" while committing the jihadi murder of 12 soldiers. He is considered to have committed "workplace violence," but an American citizen with a Tea Party bumper sticker is regarded as a "domestic terrorist."

In this bizarre world the trees are a bright orange, the sky is chartreuse, the clouds are a rich puce, and standards and definitions change with the political winds. A society in the throes of such idiocy cannot long survive.

The US used to be describes as a “melting pot.” Today, that melting pot has transformed into a “Boiling Pot” heated by the rage of LEGAL American citizens born and raised in this country and by naturalized American citizens who went to the trouble to enter this country – LEGALLY-- out of respect for the laws of their newly adopted country.

Millions of so-called “immigrants” have chosen to break and enter the United States by crossing our clearly marked borders illegally. Those who do so are called “illegal aliens,” “illegal immigrants,” and a number of other terms less printable than these two.

The reason we call them ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS is because they are in this country illegally.

So – they find it “offensive?” Say WHAT? It reminds me of an old joke from the 1940’s and 1950’s with the punch line: “Don’t you call me what I is!” But, of course, that old joke IS offensive today… as is so much of our language and, well, darn near everything that gave us color and spice, and yes, even spirit as Americans. We have gelded ourselves as a robust, boisterous, flamboyant people. We have become lifeless, pale, bland, and dull. Political Correctness did it all.

Now comes more politically correct pabulum from a journalist’s organization. It seems they find the term “Illegal Immigrant” offensive and even unconstitutional!

In an article By Eric Scheiner entitled: “Society Of Professional Journalists Says 'Illegal Immigrant' Is An 'Offensive' Term” CNSNews reports the following:

“The Diversity Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is undertaking an educational campaign against the term “illegal immigrant” seeking to inform reporters that the term “illegal immigrant” is “offensive” to Latinos.

In the latest issue of SPJ’s magazine ‘Quill’, SPJ’s Diversity Committee member Leo Laurence writes about the campaign referencing the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ recommendation to use “undocumented immigrant” or “undocumented worker” and to “Avoid using ‘illegal(s)’ as a noun.”

"SPJ’s Diversity Committee met during the 2010 convention in Las Vegas and decided to engage in a yearlong educational campaign designed to inform and sensitize journalists as to the best language to use when writing and reporting on undocumented immigrants," wrote Laurence.

In his article, Laurence also made a constitutional argument against the term 'illegal immigrant', “One of the most basic of our constitutional rights is that everyone (including non-citizens) is innocent of any crime until proven guilty in a court of law," wrote Laurence. "That’s guaranteed under the Fifth, Sixth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution.”

“Simply put, only a judge, not a journalist, can say that someone is an illegal,” Laurence adds. (SOURCE)

Am I mistaken in my belief that the US Constitution is for “AMERICANS?”I mean -- legal citizens of the United States? I know our government seems bent on extended rights intended for American citizens to terrorists and to Illegal Aliens, but wait a cussed minute! Doesn’t it cheapen those rights? Doesn’t that make a joke of all the efforts our forefathers made to protect and defend those rights?

Look: Attempting to change the way we refer to illegal aliens is not entirely politically correct. It is propagandizing of the highest order.

It seems to me, as a former member of the press, that the job of a reporter, a member of the press, and/or a journalist, is to report the news. They have no business trying to influence the way you and I think about the news. But that appears to be exactly what this campaign is all about.

I find the very fact that illegal aliens are in this country illegally – “OFFENSIVE!” I find the fact that my government will not do its duty – and STOP IT! – OFFENSIVE as all get-out! The moment they set foot on US soil, without the proper, documentation, they have broken US laws and the laws of many of our states.

Here is the bottom line, as I see it: This campaign is all about One-World Governance, a One World Government, or Global Government. A globe with no borders and a single government – likely, the United Nations or some equally pathetic bunch of yahoos we never met -- let alone elected.

To those in the Mainstream Media: This is why your newspapers are failing. This is why your magazines are failing. This is why your broadcast “talk shows” fail. This is why your news networks run second, at best, to Fox News. The American people know YOU CANNOT BE TRUSTED, anymore!

Don’t talk to me about “Undocumented Workers.” Don’t talk to me about “Undocumented Immigrants.” They are, in fact, Illegal Aliens, Illegal Immigrants, or even “Undocumented Democrats,” or in most cases, “Undocumented Mexicans.”

Of course, all this effort is intended to assist the democrats in gaining AMNESTY for those millions of Illegal Aliens already in this country sucking the life out of the economy of a number of our states. But HEY, if given citizenship, they’re going to vote democratic! See where all this is going?

Yes, the melting pot is boiling over -- and with good reason. We are suffering the greatest land invasion in history while our government looks the other way and tries, desperately, to distract its citizens from observing the madness, the mischief, the malign intent of a shadow government controlled by a cabal of uber-wealthy miscreants with Napoleonic complexes and a lust to rule the world!

At some point in the near future, the US will be forced to invade Mexico – again!

There is a war going on in Mexico and the Mexican government has shown no capability of containing or winning the bloody conflict.

Mexico today resembles more a wartime Vietnam than it does a country at peace. That is because there is no peace in Mexico.

The US cannot continue to look the other way and pretend that the Mexican government can control the violence wrought by drug cartels, drug gangs, and just plain ole “outlaws.” The drug insurrection in Mexico is running up a body count that rivals that of the US wars in the Middle East. That, dear reader, is a full-blown war!

Americans who live in the states along the Southern Border of the US have a right to expect their government to protect them from marauding gangs and private Mexican outlaw armies. The extremely weak response from the Obama Regime to their pleas for assistance is a black mark on Obama’s record that will never fade.

The primary task of the US Government is National Defense. Protection of US citizens from invasion by other countries would certainly fall within that definition.

You think “invasion” is too strong a word? Then THINK AGAIN. The near incessant pouring of illegal aliens across the Mexican border into the US is straining our national treasury to the breaking point.

We really do not know how many illegal aliens from Mexico are now within the US. Oh, the government issues figures, but I suspect the figures they publicly espouse are “low-ball” figures.

Many suspect those “undocumented immigrants” are really “undocumented democrats.” How else to explain the democrats unceasing drive to grant them citizenship with such bills as “The Dream Act” widely expected to be introduced in the US Senate, by the democrats, during the on-going lame duck session of Congress?

The Dream Act must be defeated

One of the most important steps the new Congress can take is to build the fence along the border with Mexico and the US. In addition, the US military should be tasked with the security of that border with armed troops allowed to use deadly force to stop illegal entry into the US.

Even if that were done, I suspect it will not be enough. The armed Mexican gangs, and those private drug armies, will certainly challenge the border defenses until they are neutralized. The only way to do that is for the President to order an armed invasion of Mexico to hunt down and destroy the drug kingpins and wipe out their gunmen -- to the last man.

In fact we may find it necessary to occupy a strip of northern Mexico to serve as a buffer zone. The point is, the US needs to do whatever is necessary to stop the land invasion of US territory by illegal aliens and to guarantee the safety of US citizens along that border.

An invasion of Mexico by US military forces is not new. Our neighbor to the south has made a nuisance of itself many times before. In the mid 1840’s and again in early 1900’s, US forces have been ordered into Mexico. You can bet there are contingency plans for just such an invasion on file at the Pentagon.

Call it a “Police Action,” if you will. We cannot continue to allow our neighbor’s war to spill over into US territory endangering US citizen’s lives and property. Armed US troops on the US/Mexico border would go a long way toward lessening the tension in the Border States and cooling the tempers of property owners along the border.

Americans have a history of stepping-in and stepping-up when their government, for whatever reason, fails to act to protect them. It is only a matter of time before there are armed clashes between Mexican citizens and American citizens along the border. It takes no crystal ball to see that future unfold. The violence along the border is escalating and that violence is being imported -- along with the illegal drugs flooding across the border into the US. It MUST be STOPPED.

It is clear the Obama Regime is totally incapable of bringing pressure to bear on the Mexican government. Obama is such a weak President he is being “rolled” by practically every nation he seeks to deal with around the globe. It is a fact that a weak US President invites trouble by emboldening our foes everywhere. It is also clear that Obama’s weakness as a leader is adding fuel to the conflagration along the US/Mexico border.

Americans are now aware of the terrible mistake they made by electing Obama to the Office of President in 2008 and they intend to correct that mistake in November of 2012. But that is two years away. SOMETHING needs to be done NOW before there is a massive bloodletting as the result of a skirmish between armed Mexicans and armed US citizens. Mark my words – it is going to happen -- sooner rather than later.

A strong American President could stop a war between Mexico and the United States. Problem is – AMERICA DOES NOT HAVE A STRONG PRESIDENT. We intend to correct that error in 2012.

Is Obama a fascist?

Ok -- so what is a fascist? According to The Urban Dictionary a fascist is "someone who believes in a totalitarian state rule by a supreme leader (dictator) who controls everything possible and treats people harshly -- to gain the leader's own success...." (SOURCE)

Sound familiar? In a piece by John Griffing, published at American Thinker, Mr. Griffing says the following: "At its core, fascism is really just a system where government, through agreements with the private sector, controls virtually all property and income indirectly and Obama has embraced this template."

Mr. Griffing goes on to say: "Fascism is correctly associated with tyranny since nations that employ the tenets of fascism almost always transition from a republican or parliamentary form of government to some sort of personality cult usually centered on an economic "savior." Fascism requires extensive state control, and if this control is not centralized in a singular personality, the results will be muddied and plagued with excessive overlap. It is gratifying, to say the least, to find someone who agrees with our viewpoint of Obama and his regime. It is truly frightening to see America being fundamentally changed from a constitutional republic into a fascist dictatorship under Obama. But, that is what we have in America today.

What? You say it can't happen in America? Well, I hate to disagree with your assessment, but dear reader, it already has happened. The task of freedom loving Americans now -- IS TO CHANGE IT BACK! That goal is becoming ever more difficult, with every passing day, as the line between the private sector and the public sector is being systematically and intentionally blurred by the Obama Regime. You may not wish to admit it, even to yourself, but, as Mr. Griffing says in his article at American Thinker, "individual liberty can often be conditioned on complicity with state aims, as manifested in the private sector sphere." He is spot on!

Look, we Americans are being "conditioned" by the Obama Regime to jump through any hoop Obama should hold up in front of us.

Many weeks ago we warned of an avalanche of taxes on the horizon for America. That avalanche is about to come rumbling down to crush the last remnant of resistance to the Obama fascist agenda.

Obama and the democrats have bankrupted America. We are broke. There is no more money available within the government budget to stave of the insolvency of America.

So what must happen? Huge tax increases. As Charles Krauthammer has warned us: "There just isn't enough to cut elsewhere to prevent national insolvency. That will require massive tax increases, most likely a European-style value-added tax." Read the entire article here (SOURCE)
Americans who have already been mentally "conditioned" will simply lie down and allow the Obama taxes, such as the VAT tax, to wash over them. Those of us who are not "conditioned" will fight it every step of the way. Even the Vat tax is the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. It cannot cover the shortfall of funds America faces in the future.

Only a strong fascist leader could "condition" Americans to accept what is coming next -- the looting of the individual American.

In an article at the American thinker written by Kyle Anne Shiver and entitled: "Barack Obama, the Quintessential liberal fascist" Shiver says: "Neither did Barack Obama invent the political "ideology of change," nor design its carefully crafted propaganda. While media folks talked of the tingles up their legs and the brilliant rhetoric of Barack Obama, they were heralding the speaker only, not the creator of the movement and its slogans. That would have been Saul Alinsky, the man who took fascism and cunningly made it appear to casual observers every bit as American as apple pie.

As much as I dislike admitting it, we HAVE become conditioned “not to see the forest for the trees.” We inhabit Obama’s fascist America, yet we don’t seem able to see it for what it is. Today we Americans seem to lack what the military refers to as “situational awareness.” Just as on the battlefield where lack of situational awareness can easily lead to the demise of the individual, it can also lead the people of a country into placidly standing by as their nation is hi-jacked and “fundamentally changed,” from a nation where the government serves the people -- to a nation where the people serve the government.

That has already happened. The question now is -- can we change it back to its rightful condition. We have a chance this November to begin that renewal. Lets not allow the chance to save America pass us by. It MAY be our last chance.

Arizona forced to act by the
federal government’s willful negligence

"Southern Arizona is a war zone controlled by outside criminal forces," said Patrick Bray of the Arizona Cattlemen's Association, and ranchers say the problem has been festering for years. They have been warning of the rising level of drug-cartel-related violence that has already claimed the lives of 10,000 people in Mexico since late 2006, and could further spill into the U.S. That assertion is supported by the murder of 58 year-old Robert Krentz on his Arizona ranch in March, and a deputy sheriff who was shot by a group of suspected illegal alien drug runners just recently.

Arizona is a main corridor for human and drug smuggling, and Phoenix now ranks second in the world in kidnappings for ransom, reporting 366 abductions in 2008, mostly tied to Mexican human smugglers and narcotics gangs.

In case you didn’t grasp that, here it is again: Phoenix – an American city – ranked second in the world for kidnappings for ransom by Mexicans two years ago. Folks, that is plainly not acceptable.

Arizonans are rightly concerned for their own safety and that of their families, friends and neighbors. They are justified in being angry at the gross negligence of the federal government on the border issue, and are so desperate for a solution to this intolerable situation that they took matters into their own hands and passed a law that enables state, county and municipal law enforcement officers to do what the feds refuse to do: check the status of people who as a result of lawful contact may be suspected of being illegally in the U.S. (and Arizona).

This measure has the support of fully 70 percent of Arizonans, including 51 percent of Democrats, 69 percent of independents and 80 percent of Republicans.

Incredibly, this necessary action has prompted a variety of hysterical responses from enablers of illegal aliens. Take the Ms. Foundation for Women, for example. The subject line of an email message screeched, “Arizona Governor Signs Racist, Anti-Immigrant Legislation,” and then goes on to say, “Last Friday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed the horrific anti-immigrant bill SB 1070 into law, explicitly condoning racial profiling and the criminalization of undocumented immigrants. We're appalled.” What is appalling, ladies, is your factual inaccuracies.

Granted, being murdered or kidnapped isn’t nearly as serious as the possibility someone may have to produce a Green Card or other proof they are here legally when being questioned by police about a crime, but it ought to rate some concern among fellow Americans.

But no: A ridiculously large number of people are more concerned about the possible inconvenience to Hispanic-looking people than they are about actual violence against the citizens of Arizona. There are an estimated 460,000 illegal aliens in Arizona – one of every 15 residents – and some of them are most likely guilty of more than just being an illegal alien, like kidnapping or murder or drug trafficking. The wild-eyed and inaccurate statement by the Ms. Foundation for Women and the misinformed and emotional reaction to the new law by others who prefer protecting illegal aliens to protecting fellow Americans do nothing to improve the situation for Arizona’s residents, and that should be the primary concern for every American.

Those who have the word “racism” on the tip of their tongue ready to spit it out at every opportunity charge the law is deficient in three areas:

• It is unfair to demand that aliens carry their documents with them
• "Reasonable suspicion” is a meaningless term that will permit police misconduct
• The law will allow police to engage in racial profiling

This view has broad support among the enablers of illegal aliens, however, the Center for Policy Analysis has compared the federal statute and the Arizona law and demonstrated that there is no material difference in the two, revealing those criticisms to be gross (and perhaps deliberate) distortions.

Some legal authorities say the law is unconstitutional because immigration, including illegal aliens, is a federal matter, and that means Arizona’s situation may prompt a federalism showdown. Karl Manheim of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles comments: “States have no power to pass immigration laws because it’s an attribute of foreign affairs. Just as states can’t have their own foreign policies or enter into treaties, they can’t have their own immigration laws either.”

However, if someone in Arizona is illegally in the United States he or she is de facto illegally in Arizona. Since the federal government is willfully negligent in securing the borders, it is sheer idiocy that a state could be prohibited from protecting its citizens from the criminal acts of illegal aliens, and particularly so if it deals with illegal aliens in the same manner as the federal government would were it doing its job. The Framers of our Constitution never intended that the states should be so restrained.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano argues that the borders are more secure now than ever. That’s irrelevant, Madam Secretary. They aren’t secure enough, and you are partly responsible for securing them.

Meanwhile, opponents of Arizona’s efforts to protect its citizens urge people to boycott the state. Let’s hope that only illegal aliens follow that request.

Arizona has plainly re-asserted itself as a sovereign state. They have just reminded the US Government, and everyone else, that the US is made up of 50 sovereign republics with their own internal governments.

As the Obama regime readies itself to ram the New Amnesty Bill down America’s throats as they did the ObamaCare Bill, Arizona’s actions are an apt reminder that secession is hovering over the border states and you can bet it is being whispered about in the halls of various state legislatures all across America today.

Look, Obama is either an idiot, or a fool, if he believes the states are going to take what he is dishing out without a fight. If he continues on his current course of belittling the legal citizens of that state there is going to be a huge backlash, not only in Arizona but also across the southern states, which are practically overrun with illegal aliens. In other words, “it ain’t gonna be purrty.”
Look for the state of Texas to balk at this New Amnesty bill, as well. Do not be surprised if Texas revives talk of secession. As a matter of fact, it may have already begun. Texas State Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, will soon introduce immigration legislation comparable to a law recently enacted in Arizona, according to Berman’s aide. According to the report, Berman is planning to introduce the bill in the 82nd Legislative Session, which begins in January 2011. You may read the entire article HERE.

We warned, many months ago, that the Obama Regime and his socialist cohort in the West Wing and the Congress would make another attempt at passing an Amnesty Bill. Well, here it comes.

This time they call it “The Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act.” Just sort of rolls off your tongue doesn’t it?

Those of us who grew up fighting the socialist menace have heard these monstrous names for unsavory programs before – in the USSR. It is an old trick. Give it a name so long and so complicated that the reader or hearer’s eyes glaze over and they lose interest right away. The new name for this New Amnesty Bill was meant to do just that.

In the past few days it is beginning to appear that the legal challenges to Arizona’s tough new anti-illegal immigration laws may, very well, stand up to the scrutiny of the courts. So Obama is trying a new tactic: guilt and embarrassment.

Just the other day, while in Iowa, Obama said: “You can imagine if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona, your great grandparents may have been there before Arizona was even a state." He went on to say: "Now suddenly if you don't have your papers and you take your kid out for ice cream and you're going to be harassed, that's not the right way to go."

US Attorney General Eric Holder has said the Justice Department may pursue legal action. "I'm very concerned about the wedge that [the new law] could drive between communities that law enforcement is supposed to serve and those of us in law enforcement."

Mr. Holder may want to rethink taking court action against Arizona. He will open a Pandora’s box of trouble for both the democrats and the republicans. I don’t think either party wants a public fight over “states’ rights” at this point in the Obama Regime’s tenure in the White House, because believe me, the fight will most certainly become a fight over the sovereignty of the states currently forming the so-called UNITED States.

I am STILL struck by the democrats drive to reward criminals for breaking US laws with a gift of citizenship in the very country the entered illegally. It doesn’t even make good sense. You do not REWARD criminals for breaking the law! But THAT is exactly what Obama and his socialist coterie are hell-bent on doing. It is a key component of their master plan to destroy the Cconstitutional republic of the United States and replace it with the oft referred to “socialist dung heap.”

There will be a reckoning. Do not think that ALL 50 states will go along with Obama’s socialist plans. It simply isn’t going to happen. The states have just begun to push back. From this point onward, there will be hell to pay if, and when, federal authorities begin throwing their weight around within sovereign states not embracing Obama’s socialism.

The states along the US/Mexican/ Border are a powder keg with a lit fuse. They could explode at any time. Obama’s blowing on the fuse only makes it burn brighter and faster resulting in an explosion much sooner than expected.

We have warned numerous times that if the federal government continued to refuse to enforce the laws concerning illegal immigration and continued to refuse to close, seal, and secure the US/Mexican border, then the citizens of the states, especially the border states would do it for them.

It has begun. The genie is out of the bottle, as it were, and the current US “Socialist” Government is going to have a fight on it’s hands it obviously did not expect.

The fact that they did not expect Arizona’s actions speaks volumes about the lack of sensitivity of the Obama Regime to the wants and wishes, the likes and dislikes, of the American people. It also tells us that, in their arrogance, they really don’t care.

New Life for an Old Symbol: “Come And Take It!”


Whether it’s Obama’s elitist disdain for the great unwashed who, “cling to guns or religion,” or McCain’s disregard for the majority of American citizens who don’t want to grant amnesty to ILLEGAL ALIENS, one symbol stands out as the symbol of the day! It’s the Come And Take It" symbol, flag, and slogan used in the Texas Revolution in 1835. This symbol is no longer hiding in a dusty history book. It is now being resurrected as the symbol of America’s fight against Illegal immigration.

Since the 1980’s gun-rights advocates have modified the original cannon symbol; using instead an aggressive looking assault rifle. But the original cannon has behind it the strength and subtle symbolic power of our long history with Mexico. The symbol of that little original 6 pound Come And Take It cannon now belongs to all American citizens who stand up in defiance of the Mexican invasion!

We will not be overwhelmed!

Imagine May Day 2009. Instead of retching at the sight of Mexican flags flying over our American streets, imagine a sea of white and black Come and Take It flags flying as a sign of American Unity against illegal immigration!

Imagine walking into your local grocery store or Wal-Mart any day and seeing many other Americans proudly wearing their Come And Take It T-shirts or ball caps.

Imagine thousands of bumper stickers in this election year with the simple words “Come And Take It!” Talk about sending a message to both candidates!!!

If we can’t see ourselves flying the Come And Take it Flag, or wearing the T-shirt or ball cap, then we better be able to envision ourselves living under the domination of Mexican Flag!

As the left proclaims that there will be a massive Latino voter turnout in 2008, more and more cities across the nation are claiming that they can’t stop voter fraud among illegal aliens. The following is a summary and full text of yesterday’s press release from American Unity Legal Defense Fund.

Illegal Alien Issue Added to Supreme Court Voter ID Case

Non-profit Group's Amicus Brief Asks Court to Consider Election Fraud by Non-Citizens in Crawford vs. Marion County Elections Board.

(Warrenton, VA)..The American Unity Legal Defense Fund (AULDF) filed an Amicus Curiae brief today in the Crawford vs. Marion County Elections Board case now pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. The case centers on the State of Indiana's attempts to protect its election day operations by requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls.

AULDF's brief, in support of Indiana's voter identification law, supports the state’s position by specifically asking the Court to consider the danger of non-citizens casting ballots. The Amicus brief states: "Cases and reports over many years indicate that non-citizens have voted illegally across the country."

Opponents to the Indiana law who have filed Amici briefs include the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the ACLU, the Indiana Democratic Party, and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF). They claim: "... mandating that those seeking to vote in-person produce a government issued photo identification violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution." Further, they argue that "in-person voter impersonation fraud" - which they contend is the only problem addressed by the statute in question - "does not exist."

Yet AULDF uncovered several instances of clear, documented "in-person voter impersonation fraud" in the first city it examined. Numerous other voter frauds were also detected which could have resulted in voter impersonation frauds.Some included forgery. But others included changes in existing registration data, a pattern which has been repeated across the country. These trends, contend AULDF, could have easily led to voter impersonation fraud.

AULDF asserts that opponents to the Indiana law have failed to recognize the value of voter identification procedures in stopping actual and potential voter impersonations.

AULDF points out that illegal aliens increasingly perpetrate registration fraud. “[T]he lack of immigration law enforcement is significant," and that the threat of non-citizens impacting the election process is growing. For "illegal immigrants, voting records have a substantial value as evidence of employment eligibility."

More importantly, asserts AULDF, recent political efforts have given illegal immigrants a non-economic incentive to participate in election-related activities: to increase political “clout” in hopes of achieving immigration law changes.

Edith Hakola, Executive Vice President of the American Unity Legal Defense Fund commented, "We entered this case because the integrity of the electoral process is crucial to participatory democracy. Voter fraud breeds distrust of our government." Mrs. Hakola, a Virginia attorney who was appointed by President Reagan to the ten-member council of the Administrative Conference of the United States, also said "Voters who fear their legitimate votes will be outweighed by non-citizens who fraudulently cast ballots will be discouraged from exercising their right to vote. We want the Supreme Court to consider this threat to our democracy in their deliberations."

When Fred Thompson came out with a detailed immigration policy this fall, I knew it was very good but was too busy leading the fight against amnesties in the Senate to give thorough attention.

Reading Thompson's full proposed immigration policy this afternoon, I am blown away by its depth, its breadth and at how it would so fundamentally change Americans' future for the better.

As a Senator from Tennessee in the 1990s, Thompson had a mixed record on immigration. I've studied that record and believe it reflects the problem that we saw even in some of this year's Senate heroes who also were mediocre in the 1990s -- most of them just weren't paying much attention to this issue in the 1990s (just like a lot of you have only become active on this during the last couple of years).

NumbersUSA always gives ample credit to politicians who turn from bad or mediocre records and decide to become our champions. But less-than-stellar past records require us to look for signs of sincerity and assurance that they will follow through on their promises.

With Thompson, we will be watching closely for these signs. One strong point for him is that he finished his Senate career with an A-minus performance in 01/02 term after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. And since coming out with his official stance, he has not been equivocating when asked about immigration in media appearances or in strong immigration ads.

THE THOMPSON PLAN

END CHAIN MIGRATION!

I don't find any other presidential website that explicitly has the end of chain migration as a goal. I have maintained since my first books in the mid-1990s that ending Chain Migration is the single most effective action for reducing negative immigration impacts. Chain Migration breeds all kinds of illegal immigration among extended family who feel they have an entitlement to immigrate and don't wait their turn. Chain Migration multiplies the harm of every immigration action by allowing each new immigrant and refugee to eventually import huge extended families and eventually whole villages.

Thompson would restrict immigrants and refugees to bringing in their spouse and minor children. No more adult siblings, adult children or parents. Hence, no more nephews, nieces, in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins -- unless they earn the right on their own merits. Everybody could come to visit on carefully controlled visitor visas. But if people want to live with their entire extended families, they'll need to continue to live where their extended family lives.

ELIMINATE THE VISA LOTTERY.

Since 1990, this ridiculous program gives away the opportunity for U.S. citizenship to some 50,000 people a year based on totally random luck of the draw, with no regard to the national interest, the immigrant's skills, education or humanitarian claim.

Inadvertently, the lottery rules are set up so that people from terrorist sponsoring countries are a disproportionate percentage of the winners.

The lottery is a breeder of illegal immigration as it gives false hopes to tens of millions of people around the world who play the lottery each year, many of whom eventually decide to speed up their dream by moving illegally to the U.S. and waiting to win the lottery here.

(weakness) No Explicit Goal of Numerical Reduction.

Although eliminating Chain Migration and the Visa Lottery would reduce future legal and illegal immigration by 5-8 million per decade, it would do so only if Congress and the President abstain from increasing other categories of immigration. Thompson has left this issue unanswered. I can find Tom Tancredo as the only candidate who actually promises total immigration reductions. Tancredo urges that legal immigration be reduced from its current 1 million a year to 250,000 a year, which is near our traditional average before the last three decades of abuse.

NO AMNESTY.

Thompson seems to rule out any kind of amnesty that would allow illegal aliens to remain in the United States.

ATTRITION THROUGH ENFORCEMENT.

Thompson promotes that very term. His goal is to drive as many illegal aliens as possible to voluntarily leave the country because magnets have been removed and the chances of being arrested and deported have been increased. He does not accept that we are stuck with the 12-20 million illegal aliens.

MANDATORY USE OF E-VERIFY BY ALL BUSINESSES TO KEEP ILLEGAL ALIENS OUT OF U.S. JOBS.

DENY TAX DEDUCTION TO EMPLOYERS FOR THE WAGES THEY PAY TO ILLEGAL ALIENS.

The IRS already knows all the employees who are working without valid Social Security numbers. This provision would simply authorize the IRS to disallow deductions for wages paid to those particular employees, thus increasing the costs of hiring illegals.

FINISH BUILDING THE 854--MILE WALL ON THE MEXICAN BORDER AS AUTHORIZED BY 2006 LAW.

RIGOROUS ENTRY/EXIT TRACKING OF LEGAL VISITORS.

"Complete the implementation of a system to track visa entrants and exits, as has been required by federal law for more than ten years, and connect it to the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC), in order to curb visa overstays and permit more effective enforcement."

TARGET SMUGGLERS, GANG MEMBERS AND SPEED UP DEPORTATIONS.

"Adding resources for the Department of Justice to prosecute alien smugglers, people involved in trafficking in false identification documents, and previously deported felons. ... Maximizing efforts to prosecute and convict members of criminal alien gangs, such as MS-13 and affiliated gangs. ... Implementing fully and making greater use of the expedited removal process already allowed under federal law."


ENFORCE EXISTING FEDERAL LAWS.

END SANCTUARY CITIES & BENEFITS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Cut off discretionary federal grant funds "as appropriate to any community that, by law, ordinance, executive order, or other formal policy directs its public officials not to comply with the provisions of 8 USC 1373 and 8 USC 1644, which prohibit any state or local government from restricting in any way communications with the Department of Homeland Security regarding the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of an alien in the United States."

"Deny discretionary Federal education grants as appropriate to public universities that violate federal law by offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens without also offering identical benefits to United States citizens, regardless of whether or not they live in the state, as required by 8 USC 1623."

"Deny discretionary Federal grants as appropriate to states and local governments that violate federal law by offering public benefits to illegal aliens, as prohibited by 8 USC 1621(a)."

Friends, these candidates are increasingly figuring out what the American people want. The Thompson plan goes far beyond platitudes and, in my opinion, shows interest and understanding of what it would actually take to bring back order into our immigration system.

MSM Hides Another “Resident Alien” Murderer

If you’ve watched enough local network affiliate news broadcasts, you get a feel for how it’s usually done – especially when the story is about a gruesome murder. There’s always the on-the-scene reporter live at the scene. There are usually brief interviews with neighbors and relatives of both the victim and the suspect. If the suspect gets away, the story stays hot and little by little more and more is revealed about the suspect. And so it goes – usually. But not so with this story! Not one peep from the MSM affiliates or the big newspapers about the suspect’s background. The silence about the suspect was so deafening I decided that there had to be more to this story.

Last week 19-year-old Melanie Goodwin, a Denton, Texas resident, was bludgeoned to death, set on fire, and her charred body dumped by Ernesto Pina Reyes. We know this because . . .

A business surveillance camera captured a grisly scene, showing a man dragging UNT student Melanie Goodwin’s body from her car and setting it on fire, according to an arrest warrant affidavit released Thursday. . . The man in the video was identified as Ernesto Reyes by his girlfriend . . .

Ms. Goodwin’s charred body was found Tuesday morning near a business located in the 3200 block of Keller Springs Road in Carrollton. The Dallas County Medical Examiner determined that Ms. Goodwin, 19, died of multiple blunt force injuries. . .

"She was last seen at a Denton convenience store Tuesday where police believe Mr. Reyes, who authorities say did not know Ms. Goodwin, approached her and asked her for a ride. . ."

Donovan Young, a friend of Reyes, “gave Reyes a gas can, money for fuel, and later helped to abandon the car his friend had been driving.”

Reyes remains at large and may have even fled to Mexico. Despite being wanted for murder he reportedly is communicating to his myspace.com account. The page, which among other things contains sexual photos, was last updated on September 27, 2007. . .

A MySpace page registered to a 20-year-old Ernesto Reyes of Denton was last updated Thursday, two days after Goodwin's death. It appeared that several lewd images of women had been removed. Singleton said that investigators are aware that someone logged on to the page and that they're looking into it. . .

Fox News only news source reporting that Reyes is an alien
. . .“Police have issued a murder warrant for the arrest of Ernesto Pina Reyes, a 20-year-old resident alien living in Denton, Texas, in connection with the death of Melanie Goodwin. Reyes remains at large.”

Parents of dead UNT student offer $10,000 reward

Ernesto Reyes, the Denton resident who Carrollton police believe may have killed 19-year-old Melanie Goodwin last week, is still missing.

In an effort to encourage community members to speak up, Goodwin’s family is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of Reyes. The money is a combination of donations from employees at the Southern Reservation Office of American Airlines and from Goodwin’s friends.

Goodwin’s body — which was burned after she was killed, police said — was found at the 3200 block of Keller Springs Road in Carrollton at about 11 a.m. Sept. 25. The University of North Texas student died from multiple blunt force trauma, according to officials at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Carrollton resident Donovan Young was arrested for tampering with evidence in the death of Goodwin on Thursday. Young was released from the Dallas County Jail on Monday and posted bond on a $125,000 bail.

Police still have no leads as to where Reyes may be, said Sgt. John Singleton, spokesperson for the Carrollton Police Department.

Reyes lives at 8513 Swan Park Drive in Denton, according to police affidavits. Reyes lives with family members, said neighbor David Rush. There was no answer at Reyes’ home Monday afternoon.

According to today’s Fort Worth Star Telegram, America’s Most Wanted has joined the search. Please note how this newspaper story below also failed to note that Reyes is a resident alien.

Will AMW reveal that Reyes is a resident alien??? Well if you go to AMW the story page is missing. Let’s just drop them a note and ask AMC if they plan on revealing that Reyes is a resident alien.

Pay attention to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram story below . Do you read anything about Reyes being a resident alien?

America's Most Wanted has joined the search for the man sought in connection with the killing of University of North Texas sophomore Melanie Goodwin.

The show's Web site features a case file on Ernesto Pina Reyes, 20, of Denton, along with a description of the crime and images of Goodwin and Reyes. The case was mentioned on Saturday's episode.


A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Reyes' arrest, said Matthew Bobo, a spokesman for the Goodwins. The money has been donated by the employees of the Southern Reservation Office of American Airlines and friends of the Goodwins.

Goodwin was last seen alive at a Denton convenience store about 1:40 a.m. Sept. 25. She was talking with Reyes, who asked her for a ride, according to police.

Her burned body was found in the 3200 block of Keller Springs Road in Carrollton about nine hours later. Police said a surveillance videotape from that location shows a man matching Reyes' description dragging a body from Goodwin's car. They issued a murder warrant for him Wednesday.

An acquaintance of Reyes, Donovan R. Young, 19, was arrested last week on a charge of tampering with evidence in the case. He was released from the Dallas Jail after posting $2,500 bail this weekend, according to a jail spokesman.

Relatives have said Goodwin had no connection to Reyes or Young before she was killed. The America's Most Wanted Web site says Goodwin was on her way home from an event when she stopped for gas.
