Some
recent media meltdowns call attention in the worst way to the
continuing failures of much of the American news and information media.
Bad judgment and abandonment of basic principles in three recent cases
call attention to a long-standing slide from respectability to
corruption for the nation’s news purveyors. Some examples from the
recent past include:
First,
the Rolling Stone rape story, in which contributing editor Sabrina
Rubin Erdely wrote about a female freshman at the University of Virginia
identified as “Jackie,” detailing an alleged sexual assault by seven
members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
Ms.
Erdely did a poor job of fact-checking the story and failed to
interview key individuals involved in the episode. The story was unfit
to be printed in any credible publication, and caused quite a bit of
turmoil at UVA.
In
defense of this journalistic malfeasance, the following notion has been
floated: “Just because it wasn’t true in the Rolling Stone case doesn’t
mean it isn’t true somewhere.” Such foolishness is a common defense of
beliefs thought to be so important that truth takes second place.
Although Rolling Stone is a pop culture magazine, not a “real” news source, it is not excused from following the rules.
The New York Daily News, however, is a real news source, and has no excuse for this failure:
“Sarah
Palin has gone rogue again - this time, giving her fans a fleshy
surprise as a holiday gift,” wrote Adam Edelman in the Daily News,
describing a video of Ms. Palin.
“In
the episode, Palin demonstrates how to make her favorite iteration of
blueberry pie, but as she delicately kneads the dough, her sweater falls
down to her arms, revealing a whole lot of sun-kissed Alaskan skin and a
sexy black undergarment,” wrote Mr. Edelman, a political writer for the
paper.
Clearly
implying that Ms. Palin was deliberately provocative, the headline
blared: “Ho, ho, ho! Sarah Palin wishes fans holiday cheer as sweater
falls down,” alleging she “gifted them with the naughtiest Christmas
present of all – flesh.”
Perhaps
Ms. Palin’s good looks dazed Mr. Edelman, confusing him about what he
saw. Or didn’t see. She wasn’t wearing a sweater, as anyone who watched
the video knows. The political writer’s imagination ran wild, and
visions of underthings danced in his head.
It
appears the delicious opportunity to ridicule Ms. Palin easily
overpowered whatever journalistic ethics he and the newspaper might once
have had.
For
the third example, when a white police officer in Ferguson, MO shot and
killed an 18 year-old black youth, the media widely portrayed the black
youth as a gentle giant who had his hands up in surrender, saying
“don’t shoot.”
The reaction to this seemingly tragic event was swift and angry. And wrong.
You
see, it never happened. The “gentle giant,” Michael Brown, who was a
giant, but was anything but gentle, had just minutes before the
confrontation with officer Darren Wilson stolen cigars from a store and
assaulted a store worker, disobeyed the police officer’s lawful
instructions to move out of the middle of the street, attacked the
police officer in his car and attempted to take his gun, then ran from
the police officer. An autopsy revealed that he had marijuana in his
blood, and according to grand jury testimony, never put his hands up and
never said, “don’t shoot.” Instead, he attacked the officer again and
died from gunshot wounds in response to his attack.
The
media rushed to judgment, accepting without examination the idea that
an innocent 18 year-old black youth was murdered while he was
surrendering to police with his hands up. Was it because this scenario
fit the preconceived notions of much of the mainstream media?
It
is the reporter’s duty to scrupulously avoid injecting opinion in his
or her reporting, and to carefully label unverified information, so that
those in the audience have reliable information from which to form
their opinions.
American
journalist and educator Walter Williams founded the world's first
journalism school at the University of Missouri in 1908, and in 1914
created the Journalist’s Creed. Among the elements of the Creed are the
following:
**I
believe that the public journal is a public trust; that all connected
with it are, to the full measure of responsibility, trustees for the
public; that all acceptance of lesser service than the public service is
a betrayal of this trust.
**I believe that clear thinking, clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism.
Now,
one hundred years after its creation, after witnessing so much news
coverage that falls so far short of the lofty standards of the
Journalist’s Creed, one may justifiably wonder whether the Creed was
ever a part of the training of so many practitioners, or has merely been
forsaken by them, and is as carefully concealed from journalism
students as so much information is hidden from the public by our
government.
The
three examples listed previously only scratch the surface of the of the
failure of modern news journalism to adhere to its moral and ethical
mandate. Like our nation’s founding principles, journalism’s ethics and
morality need to be restored.

New Jersey; a contender in America's Race to the Bottom
Last week New Jersey' leading newspaper conglomerate who's cornerstone print publication is the Star Ledger and online NJ.com announced massive layoffs in the wake of continuing decline in revenue and circulation.
The Question is WHY?
Is it the changes in technology that plagues the Star Ledger group?
Or is it that the people of New Jersey are finally turning their backs on the liberal propaganda that the Star Ledger is known to spread?
As a student of our nation economy I regularly read newspapers from coast to coast, the Sacramento Bee, the Oregonian, the Star Ledger, Santa Barbara Independent and the San Jose Mercury News. I'm often shocked simply reviewing the headlines, often asking myself is this for real? I have to confirm the date the story lines are so void of substance. So many media sources skip the important stuff. Astounding at times how deceitful and biased these large regional news sources can be.
Frankly I think it is good to see the demise of the liars. The economic landscape has been squandered and undermined by liberal media deceit. The lose of these jobs are nothing compared to the ruinous economic events precipitated by decades of liberal lies.
The tripe and irrelevant drivel that makes it to their lead story lines is a testament to the the Star Ledgers failure and a contributor to a vast ignorance across large segments of NJ society.
Many people in New Jersey are detached from reality, vacant on the critical issues our nation faces. I wager few New Jersey residents are aware that their state is ranked as the most financially unstable in the country. Few know the state debt hit a record $40.4 Billion after rising 4.1 percent in 2013. Add to that their unfunded employee retirement liabilities which are estimated to be the highest of all the states on a per-capita basis. (This includes both the pension and "other" contracted retirement benefits.)
SCARY MIGRATION TREND
Add to all that the fact that New Jersey is experiencing the highest outward migration of any state and, well it is not a pretty picture.
Once the spawning grounds of visionaries now left to the rot of a parasitic culture that feeds on corruption, thuggery and taxes. Bankrupt in morals and bankrupt financially. A bifurcated society where the government and its corporatist cronies suck on the souls of those that chose to stay behind.
Yesterday's Flower Children turned into today's Bloomin' Idiots
A soul-less society that will feel the scorn of it's children. It is far better to let New Jersey fail, let the death dealt by liberalism cleans the economy and the culture.
ARE BAILOUTS IMMORAL?
The "too big to fail" argument must end, PERIOD. It should not be an acceptable concept, it is not reflective of a balanced and healthy free market, in fact the existence of the premiss is evidence that there are improper inducements in the markets in the first place.
New Jersey can fail, Chicago can fail, LA can fail. California - maybe it is too big to fail and there are serious efforts to break it up. In fact Tim Draper the famous venture capitalist is working on qualifying a 6-state breakup concept to be on the 2016 ballot in California. That will be interesting.
Good intentions with predictable bad results are bad choices, period. Criminal? Perhaps.
If New Jersey or any other state or company or bank is on the road to failure it must be left to fail. To do otherwise in light of all we know now should be considered a criminal act.
The Question is WHY?

Another Example of How Our Miseducation System is Failing Our Kids
Stolen From Stop The ACLU
This goes under the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot category.
This goes under the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot category.
Remember how you were taught in school how to add a series of numbers? Remember how you were told to write each set of numbers on top of each other, to stack them so you could then add them together to get a total?I don't know about you, but after the first 30 seconds I wanted to find the teacher and punch him or her out. And we are suppose to train these children to be the engineers, doctors and scientists of the future. Really?
Kids aren’t taught that any more. In fact, the system of “cubes, sheets, sticks and dots” they are taught now is so convoluted, involved and confusing that it often results in wrong answers. But correct answers isn’t the goal for today’s fetid school systems. “The process” is all that is cared about.
If you aren’t infuriated by this video…
Click here if the video fails to load.
These are unionized teachers perpetrating this crime on our kids, folks.
Remember that.

The American media’s fraud and corruption are at an all-time high
Commentary by James H. Shott
Recent dishonesty demonstrates why the mainstream media is largely no longer worthy of the trust of the American people.
Following the massacre of movie-goers in an Aurora, Colorado theater early last Friday morning, ABC’s Brian Ross twisted himself into knots to connect the violence with the Tea Party on “Good Morning America” with George Stephanopoulos. Here is the text.
Stephanopoulos: I’m going to go to Brian Ross. You’ve been investigating the background of Jim Holmes here. You found something that might be significant.
Ross: There’s a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea Party site as well, talking about him joining the Tea Party last year. Now, we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes. But it’s Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado.
So, Mr. Ross, if you don’t know “if this is the same Jim Holmes,” why even mention this? It’s not like “Jim Holmes” is so unusual a name that it couldn’t be shared by multiple individuals. Is wild speculation your idea of responsible journalism? Or, are you just taking advantage of a horrible crime and the pain it caused to score cheap political points for your own ideology?
Even if it was the same Jim Holmes, there was no indication that the shooting had any connection whatsoever with the Tea Party. Like the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords last year, this is another pitiful and failed media attempt to tie the Tea Party to violent acts.
ABC issued a correction, and then an apology, and that likely will be the extent of its efforts at contrition. However, the family of the man Mr. Ross falsely connected to the shooting was still getting death threats days later.
Question: How can anyone trust Brian Ross’ reporting hereafter, or that of ABC?
The cable network MSNBC got caught manipulating a comment by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, totally changing the context of a statement he made in order to ridicule and demean him.
The fraud that MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell palmed off on her viewers painted Mr. Romney as an out-of-touch elitist who doesn’t understand how retail commerce works.
Ms. Mitchell introduced a video clip, saying “I get the feeling – take a look at this – that Mitt Romney has not been to too many Wawa’s [convenience stores] along the roadside in Pennsylvania.” In the clip, Mr. Romney comments: “I was at Wawa’s, I wanted to order a sandwich. You press the little touch tone keypad, alright, you just touch that, and you know, the sandwich comes at you, touch this, touch this, touch this, go pay the cashier, there’s your sandwich. It’s amazing.”
Ms. Mitchell and her accomplice yuck it up at the candidate’s obvious ignorance of this common method of selling food: “It’s amazing,” she smirks.
But she pulled a fast one on viewers who trust her to honestly tell them what is going on the in the world. What actually happened was that Mr. Romney, prior to relating the Wawa’s anecdote, commented on how a friend had a simple procedure badly mangled by incompetent government bureaucracy that required him to fill out a 33-page form to notify the government of his change of address. Twice.
He was contrasting government inefficiency with the efficiency and innovative nature of the private sector. But that’s not the message Ms. Mitchell wanted her viewers to get, apparently.
Question: Is Andrea Mitchell’s reporting trustworthy?
After the shooting death of 17 year-old Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman in Florida, a large number of people, aided by media reports, rushed to judgment accusing Mr. Zimmerman of a racially motivated killing of the young man we all came to know from the photo of an angelic-looking youngster taken when he was 12 years-old.
Whether Mr. Zimmerman committed a crime, or merely defended himself will be determined at trial, which every American – even those knee-jerks who jumped to the conclusion that the shooting was racially motivated – needs to understand is the proper setting for such determinations.
News organizations are expected to accurately report to the public what is known about events. A well-informed public is less likely to react emotionally and inappropriately, as so many did in the Trayvon Martin shooting. These days it seems the mainstream media frequently ignores ethical standards.
Supporting that point is the way NBC News edited the recording of Mr. Zimmerman talking with a police dispatcher, and creating the impression that Mr. Zimmerman had a racial prejudice against Trayvon Martin. It then broadcast this deception on the “Today Show”: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black,” George Zimmerman tells police in NBC’s edited version.
Here, however, is original text of the call:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
In these examples, people were deliberately trying to manipulate you with fraudulent reporting, or they are incompetent. When news organizations slant the news, or manufacture the news, whatever the cause, it is unethical, underhanded and unforgiveable.

Obama’s New Pastor Worse than Wright?
During his interview with Tim Russert on Meet the Press Sunday May 4th, Obama stated three different times that (1) “It’s a wonderful church . . .”, and later (2) “I feel a great loyalty to that church . . .”, and even later, (3)“I am proud of my church and am committed to the values of that church.” Yet Russert never brought up questions about Obama’s new pastor, the good “Rev”. Otis Moss, nor did he question the long-time Black racist values of Obama’s beloved church.
Obama’s new pastor, “Rev.” Otis Moss, says that Obama’s church is “at war with the enemy.”And it would appear that “the enemy” is anyone who isn’t a black victim.
View the sermon on YouTube labeled “Reverend Wright Passes The Baton - 'At War With The Enemy” Or click on the video at the end of this post.
It’s hard to imagine why Russert failed to push harder for answers from Obama considering that national polls now show that Obama’s values are of great concern to the majority of Americans!
H/T Amboy Times
According to the Rasmussen national telephone survey, “Fifty-six percent (56%) say it’s at least somewhat likely that Obama “shares some of Pastor Wright’s controversial views about the United States.” That figure includes 26% who say it’s Very Likely Obama holds such views. At the other end of the spectrum 24% say it’s Not Very Likely that Obama shares such views. Just 11% say it’s Not at All Likely. . . Eighty-one percent (81%) of all voters are following the story somewhat or very closely.”
Other Obama's values news:
Northwestern University has decided to withdraw its offer of an honorary degree to Jeremiah Wright. Will Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University suffer any backlash from its decision to go ahead with its award last week to Rev. Jeremiah Wright?

"For 20 years, Barack Obama sat in a church where Black Liberation theology was preached and practiced. It is not Christianity, but Marxism with Holy Scripture tossed in here and there to make hate speech sound like the language of a noble mission.
"The goals of BT are to turn religion into sociology, Christianity into a political agenda, Jesus into a black Marxist rebel, and the gospel into violent revolution. They are more interested in politics than preaching the gospel."From The Truth About Black Liberal Theology — Dr. Robert A. Dallas CBS Affiliate Buries Negative Jeremiah Wright News
Update May 1st
Those of us who have written to Dallas CBS have received the identical e-mail response"
"Thanks for your e-mail regarding the Reverend Jeremiah Wright story you saw on CBS11 News last night at 10 p.m. I want to clarify the story. Reverend Wright was in Dallas on Sunday conducting services at Friendship West Baptist Church. Our story last night involved negative comments made by Reverend Wright about Texas Christian University during a speech at the church. Upon further review of the tape of the speech, we were mistaken. We regret the error and offer our sincere apologies to Reverend Wright, Friendship West Baptist Church, TCU and our viewers. We will air a correction in tonight's 10 p.m. newscast. Thanks again for your e-mail and for watching CBS11 News.Scott DienerNews DirectorCBS11/TXA21Dallas/Fort Worth"
You can buy that explanation if you like. One of our readers at Jus' Sayin' was kind enough to run down the sponsors for the 10 PM news just in case you want to write to complain.

Frankly folks, the so-called MSM is pretty irresponsible to publish or broadcast any story without checking out the facts first. Then to yank the original story is just plain cowardly. How's about leaving the original story in tack on your web page and then broadcasting a "correction" and publishing a retraction instead?
See Original Story Below:
Twelve hours ago CBS 11, Dallas, Texas published an article:
“Obama's Former Pastor Calls TCU A Godless College.” If you click on the link, however, you will find that the page has suddenly been removed.
It would appear that although most of the national news media and pundits both left and right have labeled Wright’s latest comments as egocentric and harmful to Obama, CBS 11 Dallas has chosen sides and Wright has won this battle - at least in Dallas. This is not a good omen for Obama!
This is the Google News Alert I received this morning:
Obama's Former Pastor Calls TCU A Godless CollegeCBS 11 - Dallas,TX,USA"He's upset that Brite Divinity School and TCU didn't support everything that he said," said TCU sophomore Tory McGee. "It's a decision that TCU made and it ...See all stories on this topic
Because CBS 11 Dallas is at the home of much of the controversy, we are left to surmise what Wright actually said about TCU. Here’s an excerpt from my March 19th post, Brite Divinity School to Honor Rev. Jeremiah Wright
“TCU Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. said Monday that "TCU supports the right of free speech even when the opinions expressed are controversial. That is what a university is about. But giving an award is another matter, and in this specific case in light of Reverend Wright's recently discovered remarks, TCU would not give such an award . . .”
Would you like to read what Jeremiah Wright actually said about TCU??? Write to CBS 11 and demand that they replace the article that they removed.

UNCHECKED IMMIGRATION = NATIONAL BALKANIZATION: IS THIS AMERICA’S FUTURE?
OpenTrackback Weekend
Here’s a News-roundup You Will Not Likely Discover in the Mainstream Media
The Marxist Dominated Far Left Admits Pandering to Illegal Aliens
Here’s a hat-tip to Immigration Watchdog who shared this information. The following excerpt is from the Peoples Weekly World (a Communist publication). (Bold emphasis added by me to get your reading attention.)
Time to unite against Bush administration’s anti-immigrant ‘surge’
. . .In total, 186,600 immigrants were deported in 2006, a 12 percent increase over 2005’s 165,000. This is less than 2 percent of the 12 million undocumented, but it has sent a wave of anxiety through working-class immigrant communities.
The motives are obvious:
• Repression is a “logical” response to the massive marches for immigrant rights.
• A crackdown appeases the most racist right-wing elements like Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) who have been denouncing Bush as being soft on “illegal immigration,” and encourages the ultra-right base.
• Raids serve to pressure business and others into supporting a guest worker program. Threatened with loss of their cheap labor, companies will be eager to get Congress to replace it with guest workers who can be controlled and exploited “legally.” Meanwhile, the terrorization of immigrants by means of repression is part of a long-term trend to prevent them fighting for better wages and thus helps to amass profits through super-exploitation.
So, by means of stepped up repression, Bush thinks to keep the upper hand on the immigration issue, staving off attacks from left and right and controlling the direction of legislation.
This must be contested. We can not allow the 12 million undocumented immigrants in this country, and their millions of citizen and documented spouses and children (potential future voters), to be used as policy hostages by Bush. . . .
The League of United Latin American Citizens, the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials have united in calling for a moratorium on immigration raids and deportations. At Christmas, the American Friends Service Committee, along with the Labor Council on Latin American Affairs, the National Council of Latin American and Caribbean Communities and others, circulated a sign-on letter demanding such a moratorium, and dozens of national and local organizations added their names.
At the local and regional level, Centro Sin Fronteras and others in Chicago and the Midwest organized a 30,000-strong demonstration demanding a moratorium last July 19, and there have been a number of such protests in communities where raids have taken place. . .

In which country are Muslims being taught the following lessons?
Hat-tip to Crusade Media for this excerpt:
* "Everyone who does not embrace Islam is an unbeliever and must be called an unbeliever. . . . One who does not call the Jews and the Christians unbelievers is himself an unbeliever." *
"Whoever believes that churches are houses of God . . . or that what Jews and Christians do constitutes the worship of God . . . is an infidel."
* To offer greetings to a Christian at Christmas -- even to wish "Happy holidays" -- is "a practice more loathsome to God . . . than imbibing liquor, or murder, or fornication."
* Jews "are worse than donkeys." They are the corrupting force "behind materialism, bestiality, the destruction of the family, and the dissolution of society.
* Muslims who convert to another religion "should be killed because [they] have denied the Koran."
* Democracy is "responsible for all the horrible wars" of the 20th century, and for spreading "ignorance, moral decadence, and drugs."
If this sounds to you like the kind of fanaticism you might encounter in Saudi Arabia -- where the established creed is Wahhabism, an intolerant and extremist version of Islam -- you're right. Unfortunately, this religious hatred isn't confined to the Arabian peninsula. Thanks to the Saudi government's elaborate campaign to export Wahhabism worldwide, such anti-Christian, anti-Semitic, anti-Western poison can also be found throughout the United States.
We know this from the work of Freedom House, a venerable human rights group that promotes democracy around the globe. In a new report, it documents the alarming degree to which Wahhabist propaganda has penetrated American mosques. . . .
It is important to note that most Muslims do not share the xenophobic Wahhabi dogma. Freedom House undertook its study in part because "many Muslims . . . requested our help in exposing Saudi extremism in the hope of freeing their communities from ideological strangulation." Now that Freedom House has done so, it is up to moderate American Muslims to purge their mosques of the Saudi toxin, and to ostracize the extremists in their midst.
Note: The Center for Religious Freedom was a self-sustaining division of Freedom House. Founded in 1941 by Eleanor Roosevelt and Wendell Willkie to oppose Nazism and Communism in Europe.
Freedom House and the Center for Religious Freedom Announce Separation
The Center for Religious Freedom, which for the past ten years has functioned as a part of Freedom House, will move to the Hudson Institute on December 31, 2006. At a meeting of the Freedom House Board of Trustees in New York City on October 26, a formal resolution was adopted clearing the way for the transfer of assets and liabilities.
AMERICANS VOTE “NO CONFIDENCE” ON U.N.
A majority of Americans (57%) now believe the United Nations should be scrapped and replaced if it cannot be reformed and made more effective. That result is from an extensive national benchmark survey about the UN on the 5th anniversary of 9/11, conducted by Luntz Maslansky Strategic Research.
Year of the Dhimmi
Here’s an excerpt:
. . .The mainstream media have by and large already capitulated to Islamic dhimmitude. Most have banned the use of the word "terrorist."
Some even refuse to mention Islam when reporting terrorism-related arrests. When Canadian authorities broke up a terrorist ring earlier this year, the Toronto Star lamented that fact the suspects were, "from all walks of Canadian life, with no apparent connection to one another." . . .
Note: Dhimmi are the subjugated Christians Jews and other non-Muslims living in Muslim lands.
Hate Crimes
FBI’s 2005 statistics: “When it comes to hate crimes involving religion, Jews are the victims nearly 70 percent of the time.”
Unchecked Immigration = National Balkanization

Muslims 'should get special health care'
Muslims should be provided with faithbased services - including male circumcision - on the NHS, says one healthcare expert.
Professor Aziz Sheikh is also calling for women patients to see same-sex medics, better access to prayer facilities in hospitals and more information so Muslims can avoid alcohol and pig-derived drugs. . .

The End of Deterrence

If President Bush is persuaded by the Iraq Study Group to speak directly with Iran, he will be under strong pressure to cut a deal that makes Iran a significant partner in salvaging, at least temporarily, the mess in Iraq. For its quid pro quo in aiding America to come up with a face saving exit strategy, Iran will insist on a free hand to develop its "peaceful" nuclear power. One can almost hear the inevitable claims by those seeking to justify the president's giving ground on this issue. A nuclear Iran can be "managed" or deterred, we will hear; moreover, this is a good trade-off for extricating America from Iraq. President Bush should not be taken in. He must reject even the hint of compromise. . . .

At the local and regional level, Centro Sin Fronteras and others in Chicago and the Midwest organized a 30,000-strong demonstration demanding a moratorium last July 19, and there have been a number of such protests in communities where raids have taken place. . .
