Understanding The Petrodollar

By reading G. Edward Griffin's "The Creature from Jekyll Island," you gain an excellent understanding of how our nation's monetary supply is controlled by a cartel of banks, which was not the intent of our Founders.  However, the book does not cover the current status of our currency as the Petrodollar.

When the Federal Reserve System was initially created, the dollar was backed by gold.  In 1944 at Bretton Woods, 44 nations of the world agreed to make the US Dollar the world's reserve currency.  During the 1960s, the United States spent more money than it had (Vietnam, the Great Society), and nations around the world began to trade in their US dollars for gold.  President Nixon stopped this in 1971 by abandoning the gold standard, transforming the US Dollar into pure fiat (and a floating) currency.  The United States then struck a deal with Saudi Arabia to defend their nation from attack in return for the Saudis agreeing to only sell their oil in US dollars.  Other oil producing nations signed onto the US Dollar soon afterwards, and the Petrodollar was born.

The United States' continued protection of the dominance of the "Petrodollar" system may best explain why the United States:

(1) Conducts operations in Mideast nations that have significance within the Petrodollar system.  Many times it is because they are not participating in that system.
(2) Maintains a military presence in the Middle East to enforce the Petrodollar system.
(3) Gives the Islamist ideology a pass.  Oil-rich Islamic nations can blackmail us to accept the extremes of their religion in our own country.  If we do not, they will reject the US Dollar as the only accepted currency for the oil trade.
(4) Defers to the United Nations on many issues, and is slowly enforcing UN agendas, such as Agenda 21, in America.  This may be because the rest of the world perceives that we are abusing our responsibility as the stewards of the world's reserve currency to our own advantage at the expense of others.  They therefore pressure on us to reduce our quality of life through veiled socialist schemes like Agenda 21, and our government is slowly complying--most likely to appease other governments.

Surprise!  Surprise!  A free and democratic Iraq didn’t make it a week.  Who would have thunk it?  Actually, a LOT of people warned that the moment American troops left Iraqi soil, the so-called sectarian war would begin once again.  The moment Obama announced the date for US troops to be out of Iraq, the Iraqi Civil War was assured.  THAT was a DUMB move on the part of Obama.  It was just another in his foreign policy blunders for which America will be paying for generations.

Ok.  So we are clear:  I endorsed America’s invasion of Iraq -- to topple Saddam Hussein.  I thought it was necessary to preserve the free flow of oil out of the region.  There was no doubt that had Saddam been left unchecked he would have rolled over, and through, Kuwait and taken Saudi Arabia -- and he would have had his hands around the world’s throat.  That could not be allowed.  What I did not endorse was the ensuing policy of “nation building” implemented by the Bush Administration and continued by the Obama Administration.

A couple of things:  I am from the old school.  I believe in defeating an enemy – totally -- and then, either taking the nation as a prize of war, or walking away -- leaving the former opposition sitting atop a pile of rubble for as far as the eye can see.

I do not like nation-building … period.   The price of war with the US should be a landscape that closely resembles a moonscape.  The cost of rebuilding should be paid in the blood, sweat, and tears of the defeated nation.

Another lesson the US has yet to learn, it seems, is that democracy is not for some people.  Democracy does not, and will not, work in tribal nations.  Sorry, but them’s the facts.

Look.  Fighting a war in the Middle East, for any reason other than punitive, will suck a country, no matter its wealth, dry.  That region of the globe is destined for turmoil until the earth, as we know it, is no more.  But – the utter stupidity of our own government is such that we have no choice but to try and secure the source of our energy, oil, from those countries in the Middle East that hate our very shadow.

The US has enough oil for centuries into the future beneath our own soil and beneath our own territorial offshore waters.  But the US government has bought into the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind, “Global Warming,” and, as a result, the government will not allow us to use our own natural resources, the very resources that made this nation great in the first place. 

So what, if we have to sacrifice the lives of a few thousand American servicemen and servicewomen every few years in “oil wars?”  What’s the loss of life as opposed to the billions to be made in so-called green energy, in so-called renewable energy, etc?  Not to mention the increase in power over the people that accrues to the government through the passage and enforcement of “green laws and regulations.”  Need I remind you of the hulking EPA?

Iraq is a lost cause -- Afghanistan, too. Nation building is a total waste of American blood and money.  Does anyone remember that we went into Afghanistan to smash Al Qaida and capture, or kill, Bin Laudin?  Well, Bin Laudin is dead and Al Qaida ran across the border into a nation friendly to them, Pakistan.

If there was a way to wall off the Middle East from the rest of the world so they could continue to happily fight their tribal and religious wars amongst themselves, and the adult nations of the world could get on with civilization, then I’d endorse it in a second.  The US could get along just fine without them, especially when you consider their major exports are dope, oil, and terrorism.

The plain truth is, however, we can’t even shun them because we are inextricably tied to them by our own government’s refusal to allow us to get at our own source of oil. 

So. The question now is – how long until Iran steps in and asserts its authority over Iraq?   My guess would be sooner rather than later.  With the Iraqi government, such as it is, already on the verge of collapse, just days after America withdraws, and with Iraq’s President Nouri al-Maliki’s ties to Iran, one must wonder how soon he will turn to Iran and ask for military support.  Iran, already seeking hegemony in the region, will happily roll tanks and troops across their shared border and – take over the country.  And believe me, Iran is not interested in “nation-building.”

Is President Obama’s oil policy actually just a means to an end?

Judging Barack Obama’s policies on drilling for oil under the lands and waters of the United States evokes words like “incoherent,” “confused,” and “bizarre.”

While Mr. Obama decries our dependence on foreign oil, his administration cripples oil producers’ efforts to harvest oil reserves from US lands and waters through regulatory excess, administrative mischief and outright bans. In the Gulf of Mexico alone, 2011 will see 130 million barrels less production than the Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicted last May, and that number will grow to 200 million barrels in 2012. Those numbers represent a third of the Gulf’s total capacity and more than 10 percent of total US domestic production.

Even if the administration removes the obstacles and issues leases and permits, EIA Administrator Richard Newell notes that it takes several years before real production results, so the administration has decreased American oil production for years to come.

And now, after incapacitating much of his country’s oil production, the President of the United States went to Brazil to encourage it to drill for oil off shore, and the US would acquire some of that oil through a trade deal, while huge supplies of domestic oil lie undisturbed, and the US oil industry waits helplessly for red tape to be removed and new leases and permits to be issued.

As the various agencies of the government block production of domestic oil that reduces our dependence on foreign sources, the President publicly offers to help another country drill for its oil. Does that sound incoherent, confused, and bizarre?

The president told officials in Brazil, “We want to work with you. We want to help with technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely, and when you’re ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers.”

And then – incredibly – Mr. Obama said, “At a time when we’ve been reminded how easily instability in other parts of the world can affect the price of oil, the United States could not be happier with the potential for a new, stable source of energy.”

“It is beyond comprehension the administration would encourage trade for Brazilian oil while obstructing U.S. oil and natural gas development, eliminating related jobs here at home, and decreasing oil and natural gas revenues to the U.S. Treasury when the government is trillions of dollars in debt,” said American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Jack Gerard. “The message from the White House to America’s oil and natural gas workers: we’re going to outsource your job.”

Mr. Gerard then went on to point out the obvious, or what should be obvious to anyone: “What makes sense for Brazil also makes sense for the United States. Like every other nation, we should be developing our own oil and natural gas resources. It’s good for energy security, good for the economy, good for jobs, and it will help bring down our deficit.”

But the President then told the Brazilians exactly what is behind his incoherent policy: “In the United States, we’ve jump-started a clean energy industry, and we’ll soon have the capacity to produce 40 percent of the world’s advanced batteries,” he said. He could have added, “whether it makes any sense, or not.”

Mr. Obama’s oil policy looks like part of a plan to force enough fuel price discomfort on the American people that they will start walking, riding bicycles or taking the bus to work, and helps to justify high speed trains of which he and the other statists are so enamored.

We shouldn’t be surprised, though, because the Secretary of Energy in-waiting, Steven Chu, said as much back in 2008: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” he declared. Indeed, we are well on our way toward reaching that goal. Gasoline has more than doubled in price since Mr. Obama took office, from $1.65 per gallon to around $3.50 per gallon. This is the steepest rise in gasoline prices since the Carter administration, and the Obama administration’s decrease in domestic oil production definitely will help increase prices.

Mr. Obama doesn’t mind ramping up oil drilling, so long as it’s not our oil, and he doesn’t mind keeping oil workers on the unemployment line and hurting local economies, even when America is desperate for job creation, so long as it advances his ideological agenda. “Damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead,” the saying goes.

The central planners in the Obama administration and Congress have it all figured out, and if we pesky personal liberty proponents and free market capitalists would just shut up and wise up, they would set up a command economy like the former Soviet Union’s, North Korea’s, and Cuba’s, and our omnipotent government would solve all our problems and take care of us from cradle to grave.

That’s what far too many of our so-called leaders and an increasing number of the American people want. But they should understand the wisdom of this thought, attributed to several great Americans from Thomas Jefferson to Ronald Reagan: “a government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take from you everything you have.”

Just a few days ago we wrote an article in which we proclaimed that America does not need oil from sources found anywhere but here on our own property. The article was dismissed by most, but those who seriously consider the possibility that our very own government, under the direction of our current president, Barry Soetoro – aka -- Barack Obama, is intentionally forcing American citizens, against our will, to “make do with less,” in order to pre-condition Americans for the socialist government to come, DID take it seriously and some have spoken out – and -- in so doing have given even more credence to our suggestion that we DO have all the oil we need right here on our own shores or beneath that portion of the oceans owned by the citizens of the US under international law.

Those writers, too, have drawn even more attention to the machinations of the Obama Regime’s intensive planning for a socialist take over of the US government.I know it sounds like a screenplay for a fictional dramatic motion picture. Problem is … it is true!The article I wrote, “Another Recession Keyed By High Oil Prices?” can be found HERE.

Here is a quote from the article: “Look. America is awash in oil. We’ve got more oil than the Arabs! But – our government won’t let us get to it -- and use it -- and flip the bird to the Middle Eastern Oil Princes.” We continue: “So what the deuce is going on? I mean, why the heck are we Americans sitting on our hands and not DEMANDING that our government “cut the cr*p” and allow the oil companies to dig, and drill, for all this oil? WHY is the US continuing to ship our treasure and our blood to the Middle East -- and to our unfriendly southern neighbors -- for oil?

We are on the cusp of back-to-back recessions with the second dip looming today. The cost to Americans for oil is threatening to push us over that brink and into a recession that will, most likely, become a depression even worse than the one our parents and grandparents experienced in the 1930’s."

I ask the same question today that I did then: “Why are we allowing a small group of people to dictate our lives and our economy, indeed, our future as a viable nation?It is past time to fight back, America. Demand that the US Congress defund the Environmental Protection Agency right off the bat. Get rid of it.” (I would add the Department of Energy to “get rid of” list.)

In the previous article we pointed out the following: “Just as important is the necessity to elect a President with the cajones to override the environmentalist and open up America to drilling and digging for our own vast reserves of oil sloshing beneath our feet and just offshore and under the tundra.” You can find the entire article HERE.

Now comes Ron Arnold with an article entitled: “Obama's 'starve America first' energy policy creates a backlash”

Mr. Arnold says: “With shaky foreign energy supplies threatening to deepen the worst recession since World War II, why doesn't America protect its capacity to do work by drilling for more oil and gas here at home? Simple truth from Politics 101: Big Green's extreme anti-energy ideology permeates the Obama administration.” He goes on to say: “Dan Kish, senior vice president for policy at the D.C.-based Institute for Energy Research, told me, 'The Obama administration is deliberately embargoing our own domestic energy from us, from Americans. He and his agency heads all believe in the politics of scarcity -- force society to live with less. The most anti-energy interior secretary in history is Obama's Ken Salazar -- who is also presently in contempt of court for withholding deepwater Gulf of Mexico oil drilling permits."

So what about our claim that America has more domestic oil than Saudi Arabia? In his article Mr. Arnold says: “Never mind that the Congressional Research Service has released a study, U.S. Fossil Fuel Resources, that shows America's combined recoverable natural gas, oil, and coal endowment is the largest on Earth, far larger than that of Saudi Arabia (3rd), China (4th), and Canada (6th) combined.

None of that matters to the Obama administration, which has blocked dozens of energy developments on federal lands and now forbids recovery of 83 percent of our oil resources.”We recommend that you read Mr. Arnold’s article in its entirety. You will find it HERE.

You DO see the pattern here – don’t you? As wild and outrageous as it sounds, we have to believe the Obama Regime is deliberately forcing the price of oil products, including the price of gasoline, up to realize his socialist dream of having all Americans learn to live with less and precondition the entire country to accept socialism with open arms.

America – there is no reason we have to import a single drop of oil. There is no reason we have to pay $4.00 a gallon for gasoline. We are floating on a sea of oil – far more oil than those who are gouging the living daylights out of us now.

We must show Mr. Obama the door in November of 2012 and we need, immediately, to beginning sinking wells and sucking that energy from the ground, the sea, and the rocks. The “Big Green cultists” can go off somewhere and sulk in their SUV’s and McMansions. Most sentient human beings have learned that THEIR environmentalist religion is based on a lie and we want no more of it.

America needs energy. And that energy comes from oil. Now we know we have enough oil for a couple of thousand years right here, on our own shores! We have to vote Obama out if we want to get a single drop of that oil. Hey, that’s an easy choice.

While I was fixing your economy, granting everyone Healthcare, and destroying this nation's alliances with our traditional  friends, my enemy (Republicans and Teabggers) destroyed a deep well in the Gulf of Mexico.

This happened due to the incompetence of the British and how it was caused by the evil done by Bush the Lessor.

This was not MY fault, The Anointed One he exclaimed!

It was BP, they lied to Me, they said they could plug the leak. For they had many plans, though none would work well, they all looked good when they proposed them.

It was the fault of Steven Chu, he is the smartest man I know after Me. He has a Nobel in Physics, head of MY energy policy and should have known how to solve this mess.  Chu failed Me!

And MY predecessor, Bush the Lessor, caused this disaster.  It was his policies that was the direct caused of this.  It was his lack of regulation, his people that let BP, that evil Corporation, to do what they wanted to.

Yet I will heal this mess.  I will require the passing of the Cap and Trade Bill.  Yes it will raise yourn electric rates by 30% but it will save the environment (At least MY poll numbers with them!).

I demand an end to all drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.  We can never allow an disaster like this to happen again (This will please MY Saudi masters.).

visited the Gulf, not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times.  I talked to the fishermen, innkeeper, tavern owner.  They cried they will go broke.  They have no income, no monies, it is all the fault of BP.  They will be destroyed.

I told them that I will force BP to put Billions of their dollars into a special account and a third party will settle all claims (I think I can get Andy "The Weasel" Stern to head it.).  They will get paid eventually, but not until I get MY share (It is the Chicago Way!).

I went to the Gulf, and held out MY arms.  I demanded the oil to stop spilling (It was keeping Me from MY golf game!), but nothing happened.  The oil kept flowing.  I am The Anointed One!  The Chosen of the People.  If I say stop, it will stop!

But the flow of oil did not stop.  Not when The Anointed One demanded it to, not when the people of the region prayed to their God, not for many months.  It flowed and destroyed the sea and land.  The birds and fish.  The hopes of the people. It destroyed all because of the hubris of  The Anointed One.

The people, those who follow God and those who reject his laws, started to turn from the false Messiah. "He has lied to us too many times."  They cried.  And the Holy Poll Numbers were dropping.  "Soon his numbers will be so low, he will not be able to rule us." The growing multitude sang to the world.

But until that had come to be, they watch and pray and worry.

Message to Obama: Just like your non-available future fuels, you are running your campaign on pixie-dust and sleight-of-hand. As more and more Americans wake up from their Obama “change” fantasies into hard reality, you just may be gassed out of this race.

The high price of gasoline in the United States is a prominent campaign issue. McCain wants Congress to lift a ban on offshore oil drilling to help ease the costs, while Obama says such a measure would not help the problem in the short term.

A Rasmussen poll released last week showed that two-thirds of Americans want to see the offshore ban rescinded.

Unless something unforeseen happens to dramatically bring down prices, the ONLY issue to dominate the election in November will be gas and oil prices!

In my estimation, it is no longer about policy or dogma, but survival. We can, indeed, drill our way out of this. But we must start right now.

Drill and drill now!" That's the message 60 percent of Americans deliver when asked how to solve our oil crisis. And just as Achilles had a weak heel that lead to his downfall, Democrats will find their dreams of glory felled by of their own "anti-drilling" Achilles heel. I predict the defining issue of the 2008 presidential campaign will not be Iraq or the environment or health care or immigration. The defining issue will be which party holds the strongest position in favor of domestic oil drilling. . .

. . .Over and over again Democrats sing the same songs. They say, "We can't drill our way out of this." Or "we have 68 million acres available that are not being drilled." Or, "let's tax the profits of the nasty oil companies."

But Democrats fail to understand that while many Americans were born at night it wasn't last night. Americans understand when they are being lied to. Americans understand business people don't waste money on fruitless activities such as drilling where there is nothing to drill for no matter how many millions of acres are available. They understand that if the U.S. doesn't try to find more supply here at home we surely won't find more supply. They understand that the government gathers more taxes from oil than the oil companies make in profit selling oil. And they understand that increased taxes get passed back to the consumer via higher prices.

Even NYT bloggers have to admit that Petroleum isn’t going away any time soon.

Those who disagree with Mr. McCain’s drilling proposal tend to point out that his plan would not result in additional gasoline in the marketplace for several years. But even with additional tax incentives in place, most alternative energy sources would not be available for most American homes and businesses for quite some time either. (In both cases, the short-term impact on prices will be more the result of adjustments in commodities speculation than a dramatic increase in resource availability.) So petroleum is going to remain a part of this discussion for many years to come, and while Mr. McCain’s new position may or may not help him win the presidency, it does signal the beginning of a new era in this country’s energy debate.

Illegal Aliens From Outer Space in Texas

By now the world knows that quite a few residents of Stephenville, Texas and surrounding areas witnessed UFO(s) last Tuesday evening. Among the very credible witnesses were a Constable, a former Air Force navigation specialist, and an experienced pilot.

The silent (and mostly invisible) UFO was said to be ½ mile wide and at least a mile long traveling from a slow 50 MPH to an accelerated 3,000 MPH. Unusually bright multicolored lights were visible in varying descriptions. The government denies that this was a UFO incident. The military denies that any military flights were in the area. The Mutual UFO Network will conduct interviews of the residents on Saturday.

Here’s why I believe that this incident was an incursion of illegal aliens from outer space and not U.S. military high-tech black project flying objects.

Consider the state of our economy and the price of oil now surging past $100 a barrel. Here we have President Bush visiting the Mid East this week and unsuccessfully trying to convince the Saudi King Abdullah or OPEC to lower the price of oil.

Imagine how it would go if we had this UFO technology.

Bush: I’m sorry to hear that King Abdullah. Let me show you something. Just keep your eyes on the sky.

Abdullah: OMA! What the *&# is that???

Bush: Oh, and by the way, these babies don’t even run on gas! Get my point now???

Terror Free oil is finally opening it's first station in Omaha, Nebraska. My only problem -- they are not opening one down the street from me. The Terror-Free Oil Initiative, based in Coral Springs, Florida, believes that 'U.S. dollars, used to purchase gas made from Middle East oil, funds terrorism.' With the Terror Free Oil stations, Americans will have a choice.

Many of us have already boycotted Citgo oil which comes from Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. Using only 'friendly oil' is a good start, but the Terror Free oil initiative wants Americans to go further, by encouraging the use of alternative fuels. "We believe that we are financing our own demise by purchasing crude oil from the Middle East," spokesman Joe Kaufman said. "We'd like to avert another 9/11 if possible."

If America is successful in reducing gasoline usage by 20 percent in the next 10 years, Southwest Nebraska and the rest of the Midwest will play a big part, through the manufacture of ethanol.

"Over the next two years, our state will see our ethanol production capacity double to more than 1.2 billion gallons a year," said Gov. Dave Heineman. "And with the number of potential plants on the horizon, we hope to maintain and enhance our position as a major source for the ethanol produced in this country."

And, U.S. Rep. Lee Terry is right when he says "I know we can do better than increasing ethanol use by 20 percent in 10 years, but it's a start." (source)

Some are saying that the Terror Free Oil will cost Americans more than they are willing to pay, but Mr. Kaufman says the Terror Free stations will be competitive with other local stations.
