Which candidate is strongest on terrorism

Originally posted at Right Truth

Presidential politics is getting interesting here in the United States. Not one politician will be perfect or meet all your particular requirements. What's your bottom line topic for picking a new president? For me it is terrorism, which includes securing our borders and revamping our visa program.

As the political seasons change, so do the views of those vying for your Vote, says Walter Anderson in his article "Election 2008 - National Security - Iraq and Iran". So what do the candidates believe? What is their platform today, because it is probably different than it was a few years ago, and is probably different than it will be two years from now.

Could I trust the security of this nation to Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barack Obama, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, or Mitt Romney?

Those who claim there is no Terrorist threat are as dangerous as Holocaust deniers - but their rhetoric has been far more “acceptable” to mainstream America. --Jeff Emanuel, in Terrorism Deniers

None of the three GOP candidates above are terrorism deniers, ( the Democrats may be well on their way to deserving that title), but how strong are they?

Former Massachusetts Governor Willard Mitt Romney has recently stated he favors the 21,500 troop increase for Iraq and agrees in total with the balance of President Bush’s plans. It was only a short time ago Romney would not commit to any definitive position on Iraq and his detractors feel his position now is only to court the Conservative side of the Republican Party.

As for Iran, Romney recently said he supports the President’s plan to pursue those Iranians inside Iraq giving aid to the insurgents and treat them as Iraqi traitors would be treated. He has also proposed a five-point plan to stop the nuclear weapon progress. The points are: 1) tighten economic sanctions, 2) diplomatic isolation of Iranian leaders, 3) alliance with NATO, 4) alliance with our other allies to support progressive Muslim communities and leaders,5) leave military action on the table as last resort. I heard Romney say today that all of President Bush's tax cuts SHOULD BE MADE PERMANENT. He also seems interested in Bush's failed proposal for Social Security reform. I know that Romney understands who the enemy is, he understands Islam, and I believe he would be strong in fighting the war on terror. Admittedly he has no experience, but neither does Giuliani.

See my next article for information on other GOP candidates. Can't cover them all in one article.

Last week's arrests, conducted in Britain, marked the crossing of a new benchmark in the Jihadi war against Britain, perhaps even in Europe. -- Walid Phares in London warning: A new step in Jihad Terror

Fighting terrorism may take on an entirely new look if kidnapping, beheadings, and suicide bombings cross the pond and start happening here in the US. Don't poo poo the idea. We are lucky that these haven't happened here already.

Which candidate would have the cojones to deal with terrorism abroad AND here on American soil? We better find out before 2008.
