Congress must address the serious immigration problem. But first …

Contact Your Senators Today and Say “No Stealth Amnesty!”
The Democratic version of Amnesty equals perpetual financial slavery for illegal immigrants!
H/T Laura Ingraham
STOP BACKDOOR AMNESTY NOW--CALL YOUR SENATORS! Contact your elected "officials" in the U.S. Senate and tell them "no" to the stealth amnesty provisions that have been attached to the Iraq War Funding Supplemental Bill. Dianne Feinstein's AgJobs amendment is a total outrage--and would allow for at least 3 million illegal aliens to receive amnesty over the next few years. Tell your senators to just say "no."
H/T/ FAIR
Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Larry Craig (R-ID) successfully attached a version of AgJOBS onto the bill. This special interest legislation is intended to protect sources of cheap labor by granting 5-year amnesty visas to 1.35 million illegal aliens plus their spouses and children. To see a summary of the amnesty portion of the Feinstein-Craig amendment, click here.
If that weren't enough, the Senate Appropriations Committee also saddled the Iraq War Funding Bill with:
· An amendment authored by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) that will dramatically expand the number of unskilled H-2B guest workers entering the U.S. each year;
· An amendment authored by Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Judd Gregg (R-NH) that will make approximately 218,000 more green cards available for multinational executives and so-called "highly skilled workers" by "recapturing" visas from as far back as 1994; and
· An amendment authored by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) that grants a 5-year extension to a program that helps wealthy investors get green cards.

McCain Still Doesn’t Get it and Huckabee Never Did
Oh and yes I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that all of the Democratic candidates said, in one way or another, that they would use Bush’s unilateral preemptive strike policy under the right set of circumstances thus validating the Bush doctrine.
Charlie Gibson to Obama (ABC news transcript)
GIBSON: I'm going to go the others in a moment, but what you just outlined is essentially the Bush doctrine. We can attack if we want to, no matter the sovereignty of the Pakistanis.
The Fox GOP forum Sunday night (sans Ron Paul) was enlightening for one reason: Immigration. McCain demonstrated that he still doesn’t get it with regard to his continued defending of the de-facto Amnesty Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill, and Huckabee is still defending his lenient Arkansas immigration policies. Huckabee and Giuliani don’t want to turn the children of illegals out on the street.
Huckabee and Giuliani said that once children of illegals are in the U.S., they can’t be turned out on the street. Both men defended their respective decisions to keep kids of illegals in school to prevent bigger problems. Both men also offered their prescriptions for reducing the growth of illegals in this country.
Only two Republican candidates are firmly against Amnesty or de-facto Amnesty for illegal immigrants in their stated policies: Thompson and Romney.
I believe it is imperative to remind all conservatives of the primary issue that brought Congress to its knees this past year – Immigration. Illegal immigration ignited the passion of all conservatives against the Comprehensive Immigration Bill (which McCain sponsored). Even now, as much as the Democrats have fought it, immigration must be on the front burner in the national elections. Every other issue can be co-opted by the Democrats but not the fight against illegal immigration.
If we keep illegal immigration on the front burner a Republican will win in November.
Any of the Republican candidates now running are far more in line with our conservative values than these Socialists who still call themselves Democrats. But Giuliani and Huckabee are still much too liberal in their views.
The focus group following Sunday night’s Fox GOP Forum showed Thompson the big loser. Why? The New Hampshire folks have bought into the lie that he’s lazy. They don’t like his cadence of speech. He didn’t inject himself enough into the conversation. If they had listened to what he actually said, he was the only candidate to bring some hard honesty into the debate concerning Social Security and immigration. Downer!!!
So, if Romney eventually wins the Republican nomination Evangelicals have a big choice to make. If they vote against him because they don’t like his religion, or if they just boycott and refuse to vote, they will have to face the fact that they have sold their children’s future down the river into the moral relativism and leftist socialism that now dominates the Democratic Party and all of their candidates.
By the way, Charlie Gibson asked no questions of the Democratic candidates concerning immigration. That policy must change!!!
Digg It!

America at a Crossroads –The Missing European Anti-Americans
I must admit that it was a very entertaining special and I came away with the bemused feeling that preoccupation, imitation, and envy are the sincerest forms of flattery. But, I couldn’t help wondering why the producers of this PBS special (New American Media) left out the new Europeans? You know – the future of Europe?
This special was part of a continuing PBS event.
America at a Crossroads is a major public television event that premiered on PBS in April 2007. This groundbreaking series continues with occasional specials throughout the broadcast schedule.
Explore the challenges confronting the post-9/11 world – including the war on terrorism; the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan; the experience of American troops serving abroad; the struggle for balance within the Muslim world; and global perspectives on America's role overseas.
The NYT review by John Strausbaugh “Love Us or Hate Us, Ya Can’t Ignore Us” offered a pretty fair rendition of what I observed. But apparently Strausbaugh didn’t notice that new Europeans were missing from the special.
Here’s an excerpt from the review:
At a fashionable dinner party in London a proper Englishwoman sniffs with supreme condescension, “Americans are the first nation to come from barbarians, skip the civilized bit and go into decline.”
In a French country kitchen a woman recalls, with horrified outrage, a trip to Chicago, where she encountered “the fattest people I ever saw in my life.” She gasps that she could have ridden on their “big fat behinds.” . . .
In Poland a large crowd in cowboy hats and boots waves American flags and cheers a bluegrass performance. If it weren’t for the accents and the odd spellings like “piknik” and “hod dog,” you might think it’s Branson, Mo.
Perhaps the answer to why the new Europeans are missing from this special can be found in Tuesday’s article by Cal Thomas, “England is Vanishing.” Here’s an excerpt:
“There’ll Always Be an England” — popular World War II song.
BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND — Perhaps there will not always be an England. An exodus unprecedented in modern times, coupled with a record influx of foreigners, is threatening to erode the character of the land of William Shakespeare and overpowering monarchs, a land that served as the cradle for much of American thought, law and culture.
The figures, making headlines in London newspapers, tell only part of the story. Between June 2005 and June 2006 nearly 200,000 British citizens chose to leave the country for a new life elsewhere. During the same period, at least 574,000 immigrants came to Britain. This number does not include the people who broke the law to get there, or the thousands unknown to the government. Britain’s Office of National Statistics reports that middle-class Britons are beginning to move out of towns in southern England that have become home to large numbers of immigrants, thereby altering the character of neighborhoods that have remained unchanged for generations. . . .
The problem for Britain and the United States isn’t just the change in demographics. It is the reluctance of both countries to inculcate the beliefs, history and, yes, religious ideals, which made our nations so successful that others wanted to come and be a part of them. The difference between many of the current immigrants and those of the past is that the previous ones wanted to become fully American or fully British. The current ones, in too many cases, would destroy what makes our countries unique. And the “leaders” of Britain and America refuse to stop it.The greater tragedy is that the people of Britain have little say in any of this, so they are taking the road of last resort. They are leaving.

Does Your Senator Respect the Rule of Law?
h/t to Church and State
Our Senate, last week, discussed whether or not the "rule of law" is pertinent in the United States of America. The conclusion was, NO, the rule of law does not mean that "law" is "law." Here's a few examples:
Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) entered an amendment to uphold the enforcement of EXISTING immigration laws. The amendment was defeated with the help of 19 Republican Senators, including 3 who did not vote. The text of Senator Coburn's amendment is as follows:
To require the enforcement of existing border security and immigration laws and Congressional approval before amnesty can be granted. If the defeat of this simple, clear-cut and straight-forward amendment doesn't say everything about where the loyalty of our country's leaders lie, then nothing ever will.
JOHN MCCAIN, Senator from Arizona and 2008 Presidential Candidate, did not vote. The question: How important is the illegal alien vote in Arizona, and how important to McCain, is the legal immigrant's influence to ignore existing law?
GOP Senators voting AGAINST the "rule of law" are:
Bennet - UT, Brownback - KS, Collins - ME, Craig - ID, Domenici - NM, Graham - SC, Hagel - NE, Hutchison - TX, Kyle - AZ, Lugar - IN, Martinez - FL, Murkowski - AK, Specter - PA, Stevens - AK, Voinovich - OH, Warner - VA
Michelle Malkin has the text of EXISTING LAW, which the above Senators feel no need to enforce.
Also last week, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) entered an amendment to:
"...permanently bar from the U.S. and from receiving any immigration benefit: suspected terrorists, gang members, sex offenders, felony drunk drivers, and other individuals who are a danger to society?,”This also from Senator Cornyn's website:
Sen. Cornyn’s amendment also closes the loophole in the pending bill that allows legalization of those illegal immigrants who have violated court ordered deportations, or absconders.Senator Cornyn's amendment was defeated with 10 Republicans voting against enforcing the rule of law, and voting to "preserve the path to citizenship for absconders."
More from Cornyn's website:
“Unlike the first half of my amendment, this is not a technical correction. In other words, the decision to legalize this population of illegal immigrants was not an oversight by those who drafted this ‘compromise’ legislation,” Sen. Cornyn said. “Their decision was that Congress should allow exceptions for individuals who are illegally in the United States in defiance of a court order, as well as those individuals who have previously been deported from the United States pursuant to a court order and have again reentered illegally. I could not agree with this decision and I believe every member of the Senate should make clear where they stand on this matter. Congress has determined that each of these crimes is a felony. The laws are on the books, and we must make sure they are enforced.”More from Cornyn and why his amendment was needed:
* Current law prohibits U.S. citizens convicted of sex crimes against minors from bringing a relative into this country. But, the bill does not specifically prohibit illegal immigrants – who could be removed from the country because they are sex offenders and failed to register as such – from entering the U.S. or getting legal status such as lawful permanent resident status.Through the Magnifying Glass broke-down Cornyn's amendment into 7 understandable alien categories that would have been banned from the U.S. had the Senate had the backbone to approve it.
* The bill retains a “loophole” in current law that would allow an alien who has been repeatedly convicted of driving while intoxicated to remain in the U.S. and get legal status such as “Z” visa status or a green card.
* The bill retains a “loophole” in current law that allows an alien who has committed terrorist acts or belongs to a terrorist organization and has not yet been removed from the U.S. to get legal status. Here is a real-world example of this loophole:
--Last year, Mohammed El Shorbagi pleaded guilty to providing material support to Hamas. His actions, however, would not specifically bar him from becoming a U.S. citizen or getting other immigration benefits — because it is not one of the grounds excluded from the definition of good moral character.
Sen. Cornyn noted that Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said during recent immigration negotiations that illegal immigrants who have defied the U.S. court system do not deserve to be rewarded with legalization. “Unfortunately, the drafters of this bill—in an effort to accommodate certain far left advocacy groups—ignored Secretary Chertoff’s common sense observation. What is the message we send about the rule of law in America when Congress won’t even categorically prohibit rewarding those illegal immigrants who have ignored court orders?”
Sen. Cornyn added: “These are common sense fixes that I hope my colleagues will support. We must ensure that those illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes like failure to register as a sex offender or alien smuggling while using a firearm, are permanently barred and ineligible for benefits. And we must ensure that those illegal immigrants who have committed acts or engaged in conduct that constitutes terrorism, are permanently ineligible for any legal status and barred from our country. I strongly urge my colleagues to reject the policy in this bill that would reward felony conduct with legal status.”
Again, Michelle Malkin tips us to some insider insight posted by Fran Coombs of The Washington Times. Ted Kennedy sees no need for illegals receiving amnesty to be required to pay for a "minimum level of health insurance." Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham checked-in with Kennedy before casting their vote - presumable to make certain their vote would agree with Kennedy's. Senator Jon Kyl had evidently voted FOR requiring health insurance, but quickly changed his vote AGAINST the requirement.
Fox News: ICE's (Homeland Security) "Operation Predator" reports 85% of the arrests made are non-citizen offenders.

The Most Dangerous Bills Before Congress: Amnesty (isn't dead) and Hate Speech
H/T to Rick Coddington of the SmallTownPapers News Service for the latest on the Hate Speech legislation.
Here’s an excerpt:
“ SOCORRO, New Mexico (STPNS) --
Are you following the so called “Hate Speech” debate? If not, let me bring you up to speed: the U. S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 1592, which is now in the hands of our illustrious Senators. They will decide whether or not so called “Hate Speech” is going to become a federal felony.
Once again the Constitution is being trampled in the never ending quest for political correctness. In case this is sounding like just another silly DC issue – but it’s not. This particular bill has been called “The Most Dangerous Legislation” in America. I am beginning to think that may not be a very great exaggeration. . .”
The Amnesty bill for blessing ILLEGAL Immigration is about to be revived by President Bush and his allies. See A Skunk by Any Other Name is Still Amnesty.
Stop what you are doing! Get a cup of coffee, and Write Your Officials today! Then post your letters or excerpts from your letters under our comments. I think it helps others to start writing when they can see example letters.

A Skunk by Any Other Name is Still Amnesty!
Bush, allies hope to revive immigration bill
President to lunch on Capitol Hill Tuesday, new vote possible Friday
See blogger's response to e-mail campaign under Texas Fred's comments.
Thursday night the Senate voted 45 to 50 against invoking cloture on S. 1348. According to Numbers USA, Senator Reid has pulled the bill from the floor for now.
Let President Bush (who completely abandoned his Republican base on immigration) and the open borders hate America left call it what they will, the bill WAS an Amnesty Bill.
Americans, both conservatives and moderates alike, have spoken and the message should be loud and clear to any presidential hopeful. Americans are fed up with the “nuanced” double-speak of the left, political hacks, the endless games and hidden agendas. We want a plain-spoken traditional leader who is going to fulfill the will of the people – not the will law-breakers, of corporate globalists, or of subversive special interests (AKA: the crazy left).
Once again, this vote shows that the Democrat spinners have been wrong about who Americans really are and what we really want. Americans are a nation of ASSIMILATED immigrants who share a common history, a common language, and common values. We are proud of our unique national heritage and we will NOT tolerate law-breakers who flaunt our laws, who threaten our national security, who overwhelm our social resources, and who demand special consideration. NOT EVER!!! Got that President Bush??? Got that Congress???
The Democrats and the leftist controlled media like to spin the tale that the mid-term election was a disaster for the Republicans because of Iraq. Not at all true. Most conservatives have supported the war effort in Iraq. The conservative base understood that it was abandoned by their elected officials on the most important issue facing us in this era –our border security in a time of war and global terrorism. “It’s all about ILLEGAL Immigration!!!”
Now go and read all about the 20 loopholes in the Senate Immigration Bill and see why this bill needs a wooden stake driven through its stinky little heart!
Amnesty No! Conservative Power Yes!!!

Illegal Immigration March Slogan Revisions
Here’s one of their slogans: "Today we march, tomorrow we vote."
Here's the revised slogan:
“Today you all march, tomorrow you all leave!”
¡Usted todo marcha hoy, mañana usted que todo deja!
Here’s an alternate revised slogan:
Today you all march, tomorrow you all return to Mexico!
¡Usted todo marcha hoy, mañana usted toda la vuelta a México!
Here are some more of the May 1st march slogans. Have a little fun revising and sharing these slogans!
Si` se puede, - (Yes, it can be done), Justice for Children of Immigrants, and No Human Being is Illegal.
I could swear that some enterprising bloggers have already created bumper stickers and they are up for sale, but I can’t remember where I saw those blogs. One site had all kinds of innovative ways to use the stickers besides just putting them on the back of bumpers.
More details on the May Day Illegal Immigration March
Illegal immigrants are demanding citizenship, and an immediate end to: planned increases in citizenship fees, guest-worker proposals, arrests and deportations, and increased border policing.
Additionally organizers want an end to the war in Iraq and policies that they say punish the poor.
Some march organizers have told marchers to leave their Mexican flags at tome and to wave only U.S. flags. Additionally, they are not to call for boycotts. On the other hand, other’s have called for a boycott:
“Besides the marches, the national pro-immigrant organizations have called for a Second National Boycott on the first of May that consists of not working, not buying or selling anything, and not going to school. It demonstrates that we are a vital part of this nation's workforce and also displays our economic power.”
Some Hispanics think that last year’s marches didn’t do that much good and might have increased racism. You will note that the lefty MSM reporters usually make the word “racism” synonymous with The Minutemen!
“And the Yakima resident believes racism rippled through the community after groups demanding stricter immigration controls arose for the first time in the area -- organizations like the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.”
In Tucson a toothless warning to “stay in school” was issued by the superintendent of Public Instruction, so march organizers are telling parents to request excused absences.
Now this takes the cake!
In Los Angeles another toothless warning to stay in school came from State Supt. of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell. . .
“But Los Angeles school officials, apparently resigned to the fact that some students will ditch class anyway, plan to provide bus service for students hoping to return to class after attending the downtown rally.”
President Bush appealed to graduating college students Saturday for help in persuading Congress to produce an immigration bill, while hundreds of immigrants marched in Houston -- a prelude to nationwide marches and rallies planned for Tuesday.
I’d like to see what a President Fred Thompson would have to say!
Here’s an interesting article about the effect of last year’s marches and an immigration poll you can take today:
The poll results this A.M so far.
What should Congress do?
Pass a bill that beefs up enforcement, allows the estimated 12 million illegal residents to pay fines and earn their way to citizenship – 26%
Pass a bill that beefs up enforcement and deports illegal immigrants already here – 50%
Not pass any new legislation but require the Department of Homeland Security to enforce current immigration laws – 24%
Aside: Now we all know that Google is becoming more and more p.c. If you go to Google news and put in “illegal alien marches,” you won’t get much valid or current info. But if you put in the p.c. “immigration marches, ” – now that gets you to the info you need.
The Truth Smarts. This is from The American Daily on the Communist ACLU illegal immigration ties.
“ . . .Somewhere between 12 and 20 million illegal aliens, many of them dangerous criminals and others, members of known terror organizations, have broken into our not-so-sovereign or secure nation and set down roots illegally. But the ACLU is only concerned with the civil rights of these criminals as if they were legal citizens of the United States and any American not willing to offer full Constitutional benefits to these illegal invaders will be deemed “racists” or “bigots” by the ACLU and their friends in congress and the press.
One need not be a genius to properly interpret the clear intent of the ACLU, which today, remains entirely aligned with the stated goals of its founder Roger Baldwin, and fully engaged in the process (read as progress) of making those goals a reality, one law suit at a time.
For the terminally blind progressive, those goals bear repeating…“I am for socialism, disarmament, and, ultimately, for abolishing the state itself... I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.” (Founder and long term director of the ACLU, Roger Baldwin.)
The ACLU is the legal arm of the Democratic Socialist Movement running roughshod over America today and there is nothing pro-American about any of it. The ACLU is responsible for making those laws which elected leftists (Democrats) in congress do not yet have the seats to pass into law via the legitimate legislative branch.
“Communism is the goal” and they are well on their way to achieving that goal. If you happen to disagree with their agenda, they will quickly label you a “fascist”. . ."

Your Mainline Christmas Sermon: Immigration and Social Justice
It is a shame that the religious leadership would not be standing beside us and against outlaw businesses' efforts drive down the incomes of working-class Americans and their families. But to have so many standing on the side of the economic oppressors is truly disheartening.
I completely concur with Beck’s statements. I know well of what he speaks. I earned my Masters in Theology from a highly esteemed liberal Protestant seminary not long ago. Every attempt to indoctrinate me in the ways of socialistic-style social justice failed miserably. Fortunately, I already had a strong background in traditional Christian theology, an understanding of what it means to be an American, and enough years of experience not to be easily intimidated.
Before I entered the seminary, I was somewhat politically naive. That changed rapidly as I learned that theology and politics are intimately linked. For years mainline seminaries have functioned as the religious arm of the far left progressives. Admission of any conservative political bent is literally the kiss of death. No doubt there are many closet conservative professors who would not long survive if their personal politics were known. Students hoping for plumb assignments following ordination are well-aware of which sides their daily bread is buttered.
Just as few Americans are very much aware of the growing influence of Islamofascism on American politics, even fewer Americans are aware of the Marxist trends (born of Liberation Theology) that are fast overcoming mainline denominations and informing new ministers in mainline Protestantism! Catholics and Evangelicals are not immune to this growing trend either.
Read Roy Beck's response printed in the liberal protestant (pro-amnesty) Christian Century Magazine.
Here’s an excerpt:
But Mr. Ufford-Chase’s approach to handling the illegal immigration problem in this country displays the huge blind-side that most mainline church national leaders have on the immigration issue by promoting the idea that illegal immigration is a victimless crime. While focusing on poor people in other countries who wish to break the law to get into this one, he ignores poor people and lower-middle-class people in this country for whom immigration laws are most clearly designed. The Supreme Court in the past has ruled that the chief reason for our immigration laws is to protect workers. Mr. Ufford-Chase does mention the issue of job displacement and quickly dismisses it. And then he brings up the issue of wage depression and speaks admiringly of Fed Chairman Greenspan’s suggestion that we should have high immigration in order to hold down wages. I frankly am amazed to see Mr. Ufford-Chase think that is a worthy aim. . .
In covering and commenting on the immigration issue, you should at the least consider that in the last public act of her illustrious life of public service, Barbara Jordan led a bi-partisan national commission that concluded that illegal immigration should be eliminated to the extent possible and that legal immigration should be dramatically reduced in numbers. The reason, Jordan said, was that the numerical level of immigration is so high that it serves as a tool of economic injustice against the most vulnerable members of our community. (bold emphasis added)
Beck gives us all some good advice. Don’t let this kind of sermon go unchallenged! Speak to your minister, or if you feel too shy to speak directly, “write a short note and drop it in the offering plate or comments basket in the foyer.”
Bring it up as a discussion issue in Sunday school class!
