Where are the Men of Moral Courage?

Courage comes in two basic forms--physical and moral.  Physical courage is putting your life on the line to achieve some perceived good, such as running in front of a car to save a child, or charging a machine gun nest to prevent it from killing your fellow soldiers.  Moral courage, on the other hand, is standing up for what is right in the face of adversity as well as when no one is looking.

I ask my fellow Americans--where are the men of moral courage?

Where are the men who honor their oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign or domestic?

Where are the men who understand there is an essential word between "Duty" and "Country?"

Where are the men who honor the vows to their wives?

Where are the men who stand against the heresies in our Churches?

Where are the men who teach their children Truth instead of leaving them to the ravenous lies spread by the public education system?  Where are the men who stand up and oppose these very same lies in public?

Where are the men who understand that this life is not about them and their own personal glory?

Where are the men who reject earthly treasures for eternal ones?

Where are the men who reject the philosophy of "do as I say, not as I do?"

Where are the men who will choose the harder right over the easier wrong?

Where are the men who will speak the truth in every situation?

America...where are these men?  Have we been cursed with a paucity of them?
At this late hour we need men of moral courage, or all we have been blessed with will be lost.

(I have chosen to use the term 'men' in this discussion to help highlight the recent moral failings in America, which are mostly committed by men.  However, I cannot state strongly enough how America needs every last man and woman of moral courage to stand for what is right and get us back on track with our founding.)

Black Theology & Black Power

Cros-posted from

Faultline USA

Introduction:

This is a descriptive review of Black Theology & Black Power by James H. Cone, (New York: [Harper & Row, 1969]. It is not an attempt to politicize Cone’s arguments, but to simply explain what the book attempts to put forth. Keep in mind that according to Cone’s ideas in 1969, Black theology demands “blackness as the sole criterion for dialogue (p. 148)”. Additionally, as much as Cone would have liked his works to become the definitive explanation of Black Theology, many Black theologians dispute the fact and point out that Cone’s Black Theology is actually Black Liberation Theology.

Rev. Eugene Rivers of Azusa Christian Community in Boston described Black Liberation Theology when interviewed on Hannity & Colmes May 2, 2008.

“Black Liberation Theology is left-wing social science masquerading as theology . . . it’s warmed over defunct Marxist structuralism.”

Review

The primary question that the book intends to answer is, “What is the theology of Black Power, and why is a theology of Black Power necessary if blacks are to regain their identity?” Two preliminary questions are: “Is it possible for men to be really black and still feel any identity with the biblical tradition “that has been interpreted by whiteness (p.33)?”, and, “Must black people be forced to deny their identity in order to embrace the Christian faith (p. 33)?”

To answer these questions, Cone first addresses the nature of the Gospel of Jesus. Because the teaching about Jesus Christ is the center of Christian theology, Cone argues that “Jesus’ work is essentially one of liberation,” because in Christ, “God enters human affairs and takes sides with the oppressed (p. 35-36).”

Christ’s defeat of Satan means the defeat of white racism in America (p. 40-41). Freedom in Christ’s liberating work means that “liberation is directed for and by the oppressed (p. 42).”

God’s righteousness is tied to God’s justice, which means that God will protect those in bondage from the ungodly (pp. 44-45). Cone explains that “those who wish to share in this divine righteousness must become poor without any possibility of procuring right for themselves (pp. 45-46).”

If love is to exist “between men,” it must exist between equals, and it cannot be spoken of apart from justice and power (p. 53-54). It is the work of love to destroy what is against love, and “violence may be the black man’s expression . . . of Christian love to the white oppressor (pp. 54-55).”

“The Holy Spirit is the power of God at work in the world,” and, “living according to the Spirit means that one’s will becomes God’s will, one’s actions become God’s action (pp. 57-59).”

“Black Power, then, is God’s new way of acting in America (p. 61).” The White church has “enshrined” racism, which “is a denial of the Incarnation and thus of Christianity (pp. 72-73).”

Therefore, the white denominational churches are unchristian, and not of God, so renewal “seems out of the question (pp. 72-73, 115).”

The Black churches in America should proclaim the revolutionary gospel of “the black Christ (p. 114).”

Cone argues that eschatology is not centered in future expectations of a “reward” in heaven, because it is related to what “God has done, is doing, and will do for his people (p.1 26).”

White values “must be revolutionized or eliminated (p. 131).”

Cone subordinates questions of good, evil, violence and revolution, as relative to real human decisions between less and greater evil (pp. 142-143). Reconciliation cannot come about until “white people are prepared to deny themselves (whiteness), take up the cross (blackness) and follow Christ (black ghetto) (p. 150).”

Cone offers a systematic presentation of Black Theology, which expands the social gospel as a religion of protest through the works of various theologians such as that of Jòrgen Moltmann’s, “political hermeneutics of the gospel (p. 37).”

Cone’s theology is Christological in that his theology is centered in the Gospel of Jesus. Cone dialectically seeks to uncover the true nature of Christ. His conclusion is that Christ is united with the oppressed, and “God has chosen black people. (p. 151).”

Cone’s primary concern, and thesis, “is to show that the goal and message of Black Power. . . is consistent with the gospel of Jesus Christ (p. 48).”

The task and purpose of Black Theology is “to criticize and revise the language of the church,” and “to analyze the black man’s condition in the light of God’s revelation in Jesus Christ with the purpose of creating a new understanding of black dignity among black people, and providing the necessary soul in that people, to destroy white racism. (pp. 31, 84, 89, 117).”

Conclusion:

It is difficult to evaluate this book from its unwanted white perspective. The hyperbole of Cone’s language is indicative of the initial stages of the development of a militant Black Christian identity. Now that a generation has passed since its writing, and because Cone’s Black Liberation theology demands “blackness as the sole criterion for dialogue” (p. 148), the issue of reconciliation between the races can never be honestly addressed through the lens of Black Liberation Theology.

Obama’s Dilemma and Our Potential Tragedy

Unless Obama is willing to come clean with America about his actual racial views and to explain how he could follow the teachings of a racist pastor for over twenty years, Obama will lose the Presidency and set back race relations in America for many years to come.

It’s not enough for Obama to play down Rev. Wright’s approach, or to describe Wright as “an old uncle I sometimes don’t agree with.” Obama must disavow his pastor and his racist church. Obama must explain to America how he plans to unite America while maintaining membership in a racist church that teaches hatred of America!!! (For more details on his church see the sidebar under Obama Revealed.)

The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.

These are the words of Obama’s pastor, who just retired this last month, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Wright is Obama’s mentor and the inspiration for Obama’s second book, The Audacity of Hope. ABC broke the story Thursday. “Good Morning America" aired this Brian Ross report on Barack Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright.

It would appear that Obama makes no bold political moves without first checking with Wright. This is from a January 2007 Chicago Tribune profile of Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

“When Obama sought his own church community, he felt increasingly at home at Trinity. Before leaving for Harvard Law School in 1988, he responded to one of Wright's altar calls and declared a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Later he would base his 2004 keynote speech to the Democratic National Convention on a Wright sermon called "Audacity to Hope," --also the inspiration for Obama's second memoir, "The Audacity of Hope."

Though Wright and Obama do not often talk one-on-one often, the senator does check with his pastor before making any bold political moves.

Last fall, Obama approached Wright to broach the possibility of running for president. Wright cautioned Obama not to let politics change him, but he also encouraged Obama, win or lose. . .”

Obama Must Disavow His Dangerous Pastor and Racist Church

Update: Friday, March 14th:
By now most people have viewed the video released by ABC on Thursday of Obama's infamous race-baiting, America-hating, Black separatist mentor/pastor, “Rev”. Jeremiah Wright, calling on God to "Damn America." To view the video go to Obama’s Dilemma and Our Potential Tragedy

Original article begins here:
So Obama is the man who will unify all America? Don’t make bet on it! His continued support of his church and pastor makes a mockery of the word “unity.”

“Like a member of his family” is the way Obama refers to his good friend, pastor, and mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. Wright is the man who gives awards to the high profile head of the Nation of Islam racist and anti-Semite, Louis Farrakhan. Wright is a man full of the same racist venom as Farrakhan.

Obama tries to have it both ways saying that “there are things he(Wright) says with which Senator Obama deeply disagrees.” No there are not just a few “minor” racist “things” that Wright is saying – it’s the entire body of Wright’s constant message and that of his church.

Now the church is being investigated for violation of tax laws – and this is right and good!!!

Will the MSM call out Obama on this one? Will the pundits demand that Obama take a stand one way or another for once in his life??? Don’t make bet on it!

Read earlier articles and visit the church yourself on line and then make up your mind.

Obama’s Afro-Centric Church: A Non-Negotiable Commitment to Africa
Excerpt:
Here are the words posted on Obama’s church web page: We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black . . . We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. . .

Obama’s Marxist Liberation Theology Church
Excerpt:
. . .The black Christ is he who threatens the structure of evil as seen in white society, rebelling against it, thereby becoming the embodiment of what the black community knows that it must become. . .To be a disciple of the black Christ is to become black with him. Looting, burning, or the destruction of white property are not primary concerns. Such matters can only be decided by the oppressed themselves who are seeking to develop their images of the black Christ. . .

What Obama's Church Preaches
Excerpt:
... afrocentric in the extreme would be a gross understatement. It's not simply afrocentric, it's African-centric. In fact, one could argue that this organization worships things African to a far greater degree than they do Christ, and gives the impression of being a separatist "church" in the same vein as do certain supremacist "white brethren" churches – or even Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam.

Here’s are some excerpts from today’s Wall Street Journal article, Obama Pastors' Sermons May Violate Tax Laws

“On Christmas morning, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. compared presidential candidate Barack Obama's impoverished childhood to Jesus Christ's. "Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people," he then trumpeted. "Hillary [Clinton] can never know that."

Mr. Wright wasn't at a convention or a campaign stop. He was standing at the pulpit before the mostly African-American congregation of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, where Sen. Obama has worshiped for more than 20 years.

THOU SHALT VOTE FOR...

• The News: Sen. Barack Obama's Chicago church has been promoting him -- and criticizing his rival Hillary Clinton -- from the pulpit.
• The Issue: Has the church violated federal law that restricts a church's political activity?
• What's At Stake: The church's tax-exempt status and its ability to raise money.

Mr. Wright, who will be ending his 36-year tenure as the church's senior pastor in June, has previously been criticized for comments deriding President George Bush and lauding Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. Now Mr. Wright's and his successor's repeated enthusiastic promotion of their famous parishioner may be running afoul of federal tax law, which says churches can endanger their tax-exempt status by endorsing or opposing candidates for public office.

Sen. Obama's campaign issued a statement saying that he has repeatedly stressed that personal attacks "have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church." The statement also said he "does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms. Like a member of his family, there are things he says with which Senator Obama deeply disagrees.'' Mr. Wright declined to comment. . .

From the Pulpit
Some of the sermons mentioned Sen. Clinton or her husband in unflattering ways. During that Christmas morning sermon, Mr. Wright declared that Hillary Clinton "ain't had to work twice as hard just to get accepted by the rich white folk who run everything or to get a passing grade when you know you are smarter than that 'C' student sitting in the White House." On Jan. 13, Mr. Wright told the Trinity congregation that some people say, "'Hillary is married to Bill and Bill [has] been good to us.'" Mr. Wright continued, "No, he ain't!" Sen. Clinton's campaign didn't respond to requests for comment. . ."

Obama’s Afro-Centric Church: A Non-Negotiable Commitment to Africa

This is follow-up to a must-read article, Obama’s Marxist Liberation Theology Church

I don’t know about you, but I want to elect a president who has a non-negotiable commitment to the United States – not to Africa. I want to elect a president who will remain true to America – not to Africa! I’m very uncomfortable with a candidate who says that he wants to represent all Americans regardless of race but who worships in a church that would make all Anglo’s and most Latino’s very uncomfortable, if not downright frightened for their lives. Anyone who has ever studied Black Liberation Theology understands the truth of what I’ve just written.

Here’s just a little taste of Black Liberation Theology from James H. Cone, one of the leading figures of Black Liberation Theology.

To be a disciple of the black Christ is to become black with him. Looting, burning, or the destruction of white property are not primary concerns. Such matters can only be decided by the oppressed themselves who are seeking to develop their images of the black Christ. . .

While the MSM has given Romney a grilling on his Mormon church affiliation, a church founded on American soil by the way, the MSM has given Obama a pass on his Afro-centered church membership. No one even questions his membership, but perhaps we should?

Let’s just take a little visit to Obama’s church, Trinity United Church of Christ

The first thing you see upon entering the gates is a big map of Africa.

Now click on About US

“We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community."

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:
1. A congregation committed to ADORATION.
2. A congregation preaching SALVATION.
3. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
5. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
6. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
7. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
8. A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
9. A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
10. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

Now take a visit to the church Akiba Bookstore

By the way, the name Akiba, derived from Swahili, has dual meanings. When used as a noun, Akiba means "something in store" and as a verb is defined as "to save or lay aside."

Unless we wake up and demand some real answers from Barack Hussein Obama about his church affiliation, I’m sure we will discover quite a bit of Obama’s surprising “Akiba”!!! We must ask ourselves if Obama is saving and laying aside most of his true intentions, and then we should seriously ponder what might be in store for us all!
