Obama's Plans to Defeat our National Defense

Cross-posted by Maggie at Maggie's Notebook

National Defense is not a threat to peace: it is the guarantee of peace with freedom
President Ronald Reagan
June 22, 1972

If you have doubted the danger of an Obama-Nation, the following makes it clear - from his lips to your ears - that he will take the military-weakening strategies of Bill Clinton and James Carter to a new low-level of defense.

As my husband just said: "how can you be so frigging stupid?"

Transcript:
I'm the only Presidential candidate who has opposed this war from the beginning,
and as President I will end it.
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.
I will slow our development of future combat systems,
and I will institute an independent defense priorities board to insure that the quadriennial defense review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons.
To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons.
I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material,
and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBM's off air-trigger alert,
and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

  2. Mad thanks for posting the story in the first place. When and where did Obama make these statements?

  3. I, too, hope many people see this. I believe most Americans would agree entirely with Obama's proposals. It's about time we have a president committed to a dramatic reduction in military spending, elimination or nuclear weapons and more effective use of non-military tools. Somehow there is this ridiculous strain of un-American militarism that has emerged in our society. On days like today, we see a sad and sick celebration of war and warmaking. We spend more time honoring the idea of war rather than the terrible sacrifice of those who have died tragically in the fighting. As we honor those who have given the full measure of life for their country in combat, we should commit ourselves to returning the use of our military might to the place of LAST resort. George W. Bush and Bill Clinton both saw the military as an easy answer to a lack of vision and poor diplomacy. Those willing to make the ultimate sacrifice -- and all of our citizens -- deserve better leadership. That's why it's time for a change we can believe in.

  4. Jeff you wrote “I believe most Americans would agree entirely with Obama's proposals.” You might be right, but God help us if you are. Somehow I doubt that lefty’s like you would be one of “Those willing to make the ultimate sacrifice . .” If Obama succeeds in dismantling our defenses, folks like you will be the first to whine about having nothing left for mounting the “Last Resort”! Then your current love affair with BO will stink in your nostrils, and you will turn on your Oba-Massiah just as you have turned on your Shrillary!

  5. I wonder if he'll disarm the Secret Service to show the world how much he believes in peace?

  6. Mad and Faultline, I have added Mad Irishman to the credits. I just missed it. So sorry!

The reason Arabs celebrated the 9/11 attacks is because we were caught unaware. 19 men and their behind-the-scene buddies achieved the unthinkable.

It's not so glorious for Muslims today. A weakend U.S. military and defense system is a plan for disaster for all the free world.

  8. We have underfunded our military since the Vietnam War. One can argue about tactics for pursuing our enemies, but one must first comprehend and acknowledge the long list of enemies we have, and special forces, while an essential component of the mix, cannot solve the problem alone.

Our problems with enemies worldwide are much greater than "al Qaeda" or even "Islamofascists" and deceiving ourselves that we can disarm and leave special operators to deal with fringe groups like al Qaeda is the height of irresponsibility.

Disarmament comes with a mindset that poisons all aspects of military defense. Intelligence being among the most critical, yet the least understood is usually first to get short shrift in budget considerations.

A large military signifies capability, a small one, timidity, and our enemies have been emboldened by the reduced defense posture we have adapted since the end of the draft, their boldness directly proportional to shrinking military.

Yes it has increased some under the current president, but that from its lowest levels in the Post WW II period.

Finally, reductions in defense spending are dwarfed by the annual inflationary increases in mandatory spending, which is at the heart of all our budget problems.

  10. Jeff I have allowed you the chance to blow your lefty smoke on this conservative blog because it’s obvious to anyone that what you are calling for is pure leftism. But you don’t get to take up my comment space by making a long, long effort at trashing the owner of this blog! Your comment has been removed and You are banned!

  11. Obama is really bad news for the US if he gets elected. He will undermine our military and destroy America.

  12. Debbie I completely agree that he will destroy America in very short order. It is puzzling to me how so many on the left could be such willing dupes for someone who hasn’t been properly vetted, and who has said such incredulous things. It does make it easier to see how in times past great nations so easily fell for despots.
