Infectious Borders

Infectious Borders

Catastrophic consequences of Obama’s open border policies are emerging throughout the country in the form of infectious diseases. Enterovirus 68, a very rare strain of this virus, is spreading epidemically across the nation. Rarely seen above the southern border is endemic below it. Thousands of hospitalizations resulting from this contagion have been reported. Asthmatic children have been especially hit hard with this bug. The CDC has been nearly dismissive concerning the potential threat of this pathogen and others that are coming in with the illegal masses. Administration officials have provided only lip service when approached on this subject. An uptick in chicken pox, head lice, MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureus), scabies and tuberculosis have been noted by border agents. Quarantine facilities are nil. Where they exist the sick and healthy are separated by mere security tapes. Unleashed into our cities and towns these diseases could cause a pandemic resulting in levels of hospitalizations not manageable by the current system. Illegals are being seeded throughout the country. Many states are not being forewarned of their presence. Children from Central America have arrived by the tens of thousands. Instead of deporting them the majority are being scattered across the nation guaranteeing these illnesses will reach our homes, schools and businesses. Screening illegals as they cross the border for contagions has not been a priority of the CDC or the Administration. Physicians have not been put on the alert for the approaching pandemic. To make matters worse more Ebola patients have been coming into the U.S. for treatment in numbers greater than we have been told.  http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2014/09/10/CNN-Report-Pilots-Flying-Ebola-Patients-Says-More-Exposed-People-Brought-To-US-Than-Being-Reported Yet silence is the only offering from those empowered to protect the nation.

Contagious diseases recognize no borders. As the tidal wave of immigrants move onto our soil invisible vermin come with them. Chagas disease, dengue fever, malaria, measles and hepatitis are hitching rides on these newcomers. From the uncommon cold virus to the esoteric breed of microscopic disaster no one will be spared the wrath of these cruel enemies. Michelle Obama is worried what our children put in their stomachs. She has minimal regard for the contagions brought into the schools by her husband’s misdirected border polices. What can we do? Stay up to date on recent developments surrounding cross border diseases. Keep in contact with local health departments and schools with consideration for outbreaks of rare and common ailments. With alacrity see your health provider quickly when symptomatic. Pediatric, geriatric and immunocompromised populations are most vulnerable to contracting the array of diseases stated in this article. Lastly the pandemics coming were completely set upon us by absurd federal policies. Vote right next time while we still have the right to vote. http://www.wnd.com/2014/06/deadly-diseases-crossing-border-with-illegals/

Obama Admin Orders ICE Not To Cooperate With Arizona Immigration Law

By Susan Duclos

[Update] Brewer's reaction to this latest "assault" on Arizona, below the post.

Immediately after the Supreme Court ruled to allow Arizona law enforcement to ask for documentation from individuals lawfully detained for another reason, reports show the Obama administration suspending immigration agreements with Arizona.

Via Washington Times:

The Obama administration said Monday it is suspending existing agreements with Arizona police over enforcement of federal immigration laws, and said it has issued a directive telling federal authorities to decline many of the calls reporting illegal immigrants that the Homeland Security Department may get from Arizona police.

Administration officials, speaking on condition they not be named, told reporters they expect to see an increase in the number of calls they get from Arizona police — but that won’t change President Obama’s decision to limit whom the government actually tries to detain and deport.

“We will not be issuing detainers on individuals unless they clearly meet our defined priorities,” one official said in a telephone briefing.

The official said that despite the increased number of calls, which presumably means more illegal immigrants being reported, the Homeland Security Department is unlikely to detain a significantly higher number of people and won’t be boosting personnel to handle the new calls.

“We do not plan on putting additional staff on the ground in Arizona,” the official said.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that Arizona may not impose its own penalties for immigration violations, but it said state and local police could check the legal status of those they have reasonable suspicion to believe are in the country illegally.

That means police statewide can immediately begin calling to check immigration status — but federal officials are likely to reject most of those calls.

First the Obama administration attempted to sue Arizona to stop them from doing their job of protecting their state from illegal immigration and when the High Court gave  Arizona a partial victory, on appeal, over their sovereignty, Obama now refuses to do his own job in protecting the country.

[Update] Arizona's Governor Jan Brewer's reaction to Obama's continued "assault" on AZ:

“I believe that this Supreme Court unanimously upheld the section that it is the heart of the bill,” she said. “It’s a victory for the rule of law and the 10th amendment.”

By the same token, Brewer recognized the threat implicit in the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to suspend cooperation with Arizona state authorities via 287(g) task force agreements. “This continued assault on the state of Arizona in regards to illegal immigration has been totally unfortunate,” Brewer said. “The bottom line is that the feds need to step up and do their job and secure our border so we can work on other issues that are a result of the borders not being secured.”

Brewer was deeply upset at the new round of federal pressure on Arizona. “At every turn,” she said, “we see the federal government putting their finger down on other places … They rescinded the 287(g) for all law enforcement in the state of Arizona immediately after this ruling came out. They’re taking away the ability for us to work hand in hand with ICE. So now instead of being able to access the [citizenship] database we’re going to have to call in and go through ICE to verify if somebody’s illegally in the state or not. That’s an assault on Arizona. And it was only rescinded in the State of Arizona.”

Did The New York Times Change Their Headline And Article Wording To Protect Obama On Amnesty Decision?

By Susan Duclos

Reminder of the Republicans' messaging on Obama's amnesty decision:

It would be nice if the president was as concerned about the 23 million Americans looking for work in America as he is about the 12 million undocumented individuals the president claims are looking for work in America," Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) added.

While writing the previous piece I ran across a New York Times article which had a changed headline after publishing and changed content within the article and it made me question whether those changes were made to protect Barack Obama after his controversial decision to grant amnesty to 800,000 illegal immigrants and offer them indefinite work permits here in the United States.

Original Headline from New York Times, dated June 18, 2012:  Many American Workers are Underemployed And Underpaid". NYT changed that headline to "Lost in Recession, Toll on Underemployed and Underpaid."

URL shows the original headline: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/19/us/many-american-workers-are-underemployed-and-underpaid.html?pagewanted=all

Not only did the NYT change the headline but a screen shot of the yahoo search result shows they also changed the wording within the article:

Now it says:

But many middle-class and working-class people who are fortunate enough to have work are struggling as well......

Strange that they took out the words "American Workers" from their headlines and "Americans" from the original written article? Yes or no?

NYT article link here.

Are the New York Times' editors attempting to hide the fact that Obama's amnesty decision will take jobs from American workers and give them to illegal immigrants?

You can’t make this stuff up: reality is often stranger than fiction

Commentary by James H. Shott

A couple of items recently in the news illustrate the weirdness of some of the ideas that are put forth for serious consideration these days, and that actually gain support from some Americans.

Labor unions in Indiana are upset over the state’s recently passed right-to-work law. According to the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, a right-to-work law “affirms the right of every American to work for a living without being compelled to belong to a union. Compulsory unionism in any form – ‘union,’ ‘closed,’ or ‘agency’ shop – is a contradiction of the Right to Work principle and the fundamental human right that the principle represents.”

Individual freedom such as the option not to belong to a labor union was a fundamental component of the United States Constitution, but that concept has Indiana’s unionists all out of sorts. They fear the new law will cause a decline in union membership, something that is so far not supported by the data in other right-to-work states. Nevertheless, Indiana unions recently filed a suit to overturn the law. The suit cites two reasons that the law violates the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude. First, the suit complains that it requires dues-paying union members to work alongside non-dues-paying workers, terming that condition “compulsory service and/or involuntary servitude within the meaning of the amendment.”

Translation: If all workers are not forced to join the union, union workers effectively become slaves.
The second point, however, seems a fair criticism: that it is unfair to force “unions to furnish services to all persons in bargaining units that it represents, but it may not require payment for those services,” and once again they make a “slavery” connection. However, this complaint is even more foolish than the first one, since the unions asked for and received monopoly rights over collective bargaining, meaning they asked to be the bargaining agent for all workers, and were granted that status. You cannot rationally seek and accept the monopoly right to bargain for everyone, and then complain that representing non-union members effectively makes slaves out of union members.

Moreover, if we are talking about slavery, it is a far more persuasive argument that forcing workers to join the union and pay dues in order to have a job makes slaves of those who prefer not to join the union.
Next, in an irrational effort at political correctness (excuse the redundancy), the Applied Research Center (ARC) and its news site, Colorlines.com, are demonizing Americans who use perfectly proper language to accurately describe a law-breaking activity.

“Drop the I-Word” is a movement that attempts to do through distraction and demagoguery what rational thinking precludes. The “i-word” – illegals – is “a harmful slur,” according to the ARC, “a racially charged slur used to dehumanize and discriminate against immigrants and people of color regardless of migratory status. The i-word is shorthand for ‘illegal alien,’ ‘illegal immigrant’ and other harmful terms,” it says. The organization hopes that a majority of Americans will fall for this grand fraud that attempts to persuade us that the criminal act of people who sneak into the United States is really not a crime.

Somewhere in the Great Beyond George Orwell is smiling.

By accurately labeling the method willfully chosen by illegal immigrants to enter the U.S., the ARC asserts that we are denying people “basic human rights.” “No human being is illegal,” it proclaims. That may be true, but human beings can do illegal things, and sneaking into the country is one of them, thus the completely appropriate terms “illegal alien” and “illegal immigrant.”

Like the Indiana unions, the ARC does identify one piece of truth: “Immigrants without documents are regularly hired as cheap, exploited labor.” But this is not a result of correctly labeling them “illegal,” it results from the failure of the federal government to stem illegal immigration by enforcing immigration laws and guarding our borders. Businesses cannot hire and exploit illegal immigrants unless they are available to be hired and exploited.

Taking this absurdity to its illogical extreme, a video posted by the radical leftist organization MoveOn.org says calling illegal immigrants “illegal” fits the definition of a hate crime and calls for the word to be banned when used in the context of immigration. Rather than discuss the pros and cons of this issue, MoveOn.org prefers to silence the opposition, or better yet, imprison opponents to keep them from challenging goofy ideas like this one.

For Indiana unionists, apologists for illegal aliens/immigrants, and others inhabiting this strange other-world, working beside non-union workers is “slavery,” and illegal aliens are not illegal. Fitting nicely into this madness is the case of a Muslim U.S. Army officer crying "Allahu Akbar" while committing the jihadi murder of 12 soldiers. He is considered to have committed "workplace violence," but an American citizen with a Tea Party bumper sticker is regarded as a "domestic terrorist."

In this bizarre world the trees are a bright orange, the sky is chartreuse, the clouds are a rich puce, and standards and definitions change with the political winds. A society in the throes of such idiocy cannot long survive.

The Term “Illegal Immigrant” Offensive To Some Journalists

The Term “Illegal Immigrant” Offensive To Some Journalists
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

The US used to be describes as a “melting pot.” Today, that melting pot has transformed into a “Boiling Pot” heated by the rage of LEGAL American citizens born and raised in this country and by naturalized American citizens who went to the trouble to enter this country – LEGALLY-- out of respect for the laws of their newly adopted country.

Millions of so-called “immigrants” have chosen to break and enter the United States by crossing our clearly marked borders illegally. Those who do so are called “illegal aliens,” “illegal immigrants,” and a number of other terms less printable than these two.

The reason we call them ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS is because they are in this country illegally.

So – they find it “offensive?” Say WHAT? It reminds me of an old joke from the 1940’s and 1950’s with the punch line: “Don’t you call me what I is!” But, of course, that old joke IS offensive today… as is so much of our language and, well, darn near everything that gave us color and spice, and yes, even spirit as Americans. We have gelded ourselves as a robust, boisterous, flamboyant people. We have become lifeless, pale, bland, and dull. Political Correctness did it all.

Now comes more politically correct pabulum from a journalist’s organization. It seems they find the term “Illegal Immigrant” offensive and even unconstitutional!

In an article By Eric Scheiner entitled: “Society Of Professional Journalists Says 'Illegal Immigrant' Is An 'Offensive' Term” CNSNews reports the following:

“The Diversity Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is undertaking an educational campaign against the term “illegal immigrant” seeking to inform reporters that the term “illegal immigrant” is “offensive” to Latinos.

In the latest issue of SPJ’s magazine ‘Quill’, SPJ’s Diversity Committee member Leo Laurence writes about the campaign referencing the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ recommendation to use “undocumented immigrant” or “undocumented worker” and to “Avoid using ‘illegal(s)’ as a noun.”

"SPJ’s Diversity Committee met during the 2010 convention in Las Vegas and decided to engage in a yearlong educational campaign designed to inform and sensitize journalists as to the best language to use when writing and reporting on undocumented immigrants," wrote Laurence.

In his article, Laurence also made a constitutional argument against the term 'illegal immigrant', “One of the most basic of our constitutional rights is that everyone (including non-citizens) is innocent of any crime until proven guilty in a court of law," wrote Laurence. "That’s guaranteed under the Fifth, Sixth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution.”

“Simply put, only a judge, not a journalist, can say that someone is an illegal,” Laurence adds. (SOURCE)

Am I mistaken in my belief that the US Constitution is for “AMERICANS?”I mean -- legal citizens of the United States? I know our government seems bent on extended rights intended for American citizens to terrorists and to Illegal Aliens, but wait a cussed minute! Doesn’t it cheapen those rights? Doesn’t that make a joke of all the efforts our forefathers made to protect and defend those rights?

Look: Attempting to change the way we refer to illegal aliens is not entirely politically correct. It is propagandizing of the highest order.

It seems to me, as a former member of the press, that the job of a reporter, a member of the press, and/or a journalist, is to report the news. They have no business trying to influence the way you and I think about the news. But that appears to be exactly what this campaign is all about.

I find the very fact that illegal aliens are in this country illegally – “OFFENSIVE!” I find the fact that my government will not do its duty – and STOP IT! – OFFENSIVE as all get-out! The moment they set foot on US soil, without the proper, documentation, they have broken US laws and the laws of many of our states.

Here is the bottom line, as I see it: This campaign is all about One-World Governance, a One World Government, or Global Government. A globe with no borders and a single government – likely, the United Nations or some equally pathetic bunch of yahoos we never met -- let alone elected.

To those in the Mainstream Media: This is why your newspapers are failing. This is why your magazines are failing. This is why your broadcast “talk shows” fail. This is why your news networks run second, at best, to Fox News. The American people know YOU CANNOT BE TRUSTED, anymore!

Don’t talk to me about “Undocumented Workers.” Don’t talk to me about “Undocumented Immigrants.” They are, in fact, Illegal Aliens, Illegal Immigrants, or even “Undocumented Democrats,” or in most cases, “Undocumented Mexicans.”

Of course, all this effort is intended to assist the democrats in gaining AMNESTY for those millions of Illegal Aliens already in this country sucking the life out of the economy of a number of our states. But HEY, if given citizenship, they’re going to vote democratic! See where all this is going?

Yes, the melting pot is boiling over -- and with good reason. We are suffering the greatest land invasion in history while our government looks the other way and tries, desperately, to distract its citizens from observing the madness, the mischief, the malign intent of a shadow government controlled by a cabal of uber-wealthy miscreants with Napoleonic complexes and a lust to rule the world!

Heritage Foundation "Smacks Down" Immigrants as Productive Assets

Cross-posted at Maggie's Notebook

The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer is a comprehensive compilation of, perhaps, more than you ever wanted to know about immigration, but is exactly what you and I need to know and understand.

Here are pertinent points, with inset-text taken directly from The Heritage Foundation:

Of all adult high school dropouts, legal and illegal, in America, 49% are illegals, 25% are legal immigrants and 9% are native-born Americans.

The U.S. Government, funded by U.S. citizens, pays out an average of $30,160.00 per legal and illegal household with heads-of-households lacking a high school diploma.

The $30,160.00-average paid represents social security benefits and Medicare, police, public safety, transportation, administrative support, public education and other means-tested aid. View this in Chart 2 of The Heritage Foundation report.
"Low-skill immigrant households are larger and younger than are households headed by non-immigrant dropouts: Only 17 percent of low-skill immigrant households are elderly compared to 43 percent of households headed by non-immigrant dropouts. Because they are younger, low-skill immigrant households have more workers per household than similar non-immigrant households, but the average wage per worker is actually slightly higher in low-skill non-immigrant households ($20,828 per worker among non-immigrants compared to $18,490 among immigrants)."
"Overall, households headed by immigrants without a high school diploma (or low-skill immigrant households) received an average of $30,160 per household in direct benefits, means-tested benefits, education, and population-based services in FY 2004."
"Means-tested aid came to $10,428 per household, while direct benefits (mainly Social Security and Medicare) amounted to $4,891. Education spending on behalf of these households averaged $8,462 per household, while spending on police, fire, and public safety came to $2,746 per household. Transportation added another $809, and administrative support services cost $1,195. Miscellaneous population-based services added a final $1,529."
In return for handing-out $30,000.00+ per legal and illegal household, we receive from such households, a payment average of $10,573.00 in taxes. These paid-in taxes include federal highway taxes, unemployment insurance and workers compensation taxes, federal excise taxes and customs duties, state individual income tax, STATE LOTTERY PURCHASES (an average of $714.00 per household!), corporate income tax, state and local property taxes, federal individual income taxes, state and local sales and comsumption taxes and FICA "contributions." View this in Chart 3 of The Heritage Foundation Report.

We don't need to do the math because The Heritage Foundation has done it for us. U.S. citizens PAY OUT $30,000+ annually, to immigrant (both legal and illegal), low-skilled households, and we RECEIVE only $10,500.00 per such household into our coffers. EACH such household RECEIVES an average of $3.00 for EACH $1.00 paid in, and this thought from me - such benefits are often received through THEFT of our social security numbers.

In addition to the $30,000+ hand-out from American citizens, it is estimated there are 1.6 workers per legal and illegal, unskilled household, each averaging $18,490 in earnings. This is an average of $29,584.00 annually in earnings, plus the $30,000+ courtesy of citizens. View this in Table 2 of The Heritage Foundation report.

Of course, there's always a bottom-line and, in this case, it is the deficit in dollars incurred to you and me. For each household, we say adios to an average of $19,588.00. View this in Chart 5 of The Heritage Foundation report.

The bottom-line, or as The Heritage Foundation refers to it, The "Net Lifetime Costs," comes down to this:
"Receiving, on average, $19,588 more in immediate benefits than they pay in taxes each year, low-skill immigrant households impose substantial long-term costs on the U.S. taxpayer. Assuming an average 60-year adult life span for heads of household,[24] the average lifetime costs to the taxpayer will be nearly $1.2 million for each low-skill household, net of any taxes paid.[25]

This calculation assumes that a low-skill immigrant comes to the U.S. in his mid-twenties with a spouse and that both remain in the U.S. for an average of 60 years. Even if low-skill immigrants return home rather than remain in the U.S. permanently, thereby reducing costs, this argument merely underscores how costly low-skill immigrants are to the U.S. taxpayer. The less time these immigrants spend in the U.S., the lower the cost to the taxpayer. Moreover, most current immigration reform proposals would grant legal status to illegal immigrants, increasing their access to welfare and Social Security. These proposals would substantially increase the time that these immigrants remain in the U.S."
$19,588.00 x 4.54 MILLION such households is a total of $89.1 billion - $89.1 billion we give away, annually, to non-citizen, and knowing-lawbreakers. In addition:
"Over the next ten years, the net cost (benefits minus taxes) to the taxpayer of all low-skill immigrant households will approach one trillion dollars."
The Heritage Foundation, in Chart 7, shows that each and every age bracket RECEIVES far more than it PAYS IN, but as the households age, the deficit increases. Without considering THE POSSIBILITY of legal status through AMNESTY, current trends would expect retirement costs to be $1.9 trillion. Here's the way The Heritage Foundation explains it (and remember that AMNESTY is not taken into consideration):
"There are currently 8 million non-elderly adult immigrants in low-skill immigrant households.[26] Assuming normal mortality rates, perhaps 7 million of these individuals will live to age 67.[27] After reaching age 67, the normal life expectancy would be approximately 18 years. With an average net cost of roughly $270,000 over 18 years, the net future retirement costs of the 7 million low-skill immigrants would be around $1.9 trillion."
Below, The Heritage Foundation continues to smack-down the verbal posturing that these people pay taxes and, this view from me, that we should be grateful for their participation in our commerce (notice that these households are "net tax consumers" as opposed to you and me, who are likely "net tax payers:"
"...low-skill households are net tax consumers even during their working years. It is important to note, these families are rarely idle; they consistently work and pay taxes. However, the taxes they pay are seldom, if ever, sufficient to cover the cost of the government benefits they receive. In consequence, these households must be continually subsidized by other taxpayers.

Low-skill immigrants are among these problematic households. On average, they are a net fiscal burden throughout their working years, and after retirement they become an even greater tax burden. Politicians should be wary of any policy that will increase the future number of net tax consumers. Immigration policy, in particular, should be focused on increasing the number of positive taxpayers and reducing the future number of tax consumers."
The Heritage Foundation asks if these households "contribute to the solvency of Social Security." The short answer is no.
"It is true that low-skill immigrant households pay, on average, around $2,900 per year in Social Security (FICA) taxes; however, the average Social Security and Medicare benefits they receive actually exceed the FICA taxes paid. Of course, low-skill immigrant households receive many other government benefits as well, receiving ten dollars in total government benefits for each dollar they pay in Social Security taxes.."
Now when the illegals whine that they pay Social Security taxes, but will never see a penny of it - because they are illegal...remind them that they are receiving at least $10.00 in OTHER benefits, for each dollar they have paid in. Pay in $1.00 and get back $10.00. Incredible! Equally incredible is this:
"In the final analysis, taxpayers, including many Social Security recipients, will face higher taxes in order to subsidize low-skill immigrant households."
Current legislation is declared not to be AMNESTY by some Legislators, but you and I know that it is just that. The Heritage Foundation says this:
"Do not grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants would, over time, confer entitlement to welfare, Social Security, and Medicare for the amnesty recipients. This would be ruinously expensive to U.S. taxpayers. Similarly a modified amnesty such as the Z visa program proposed by President Bush, would, almost certainly, over time result in entitlement of the Z visa holders to welfare, Social Security, and Medicare; such a plan would be nearly as expensive as forthright amnesty. Amnesty in any form would impose serious fiscal costs.
There is much, much more to this report. I encourage anyone with some endurance to read through The Heritage Foundation report by Robert E. Rector and Christine Kim.

Tainted Food Supply and Illegal Aliens

Originally posted at Right Truth

It is a fact that legal immigrants are required to have medical screening to ensure that they do not bring any contagious diseases into the United States. Illegal aliens are not screened and many are carrying horrific third world diseases that do not belong in the USA. Many of these diseases are highly contagious and will infect citizens that come in contact with an infected illegal alien. (source)

HIV , Hepatitis A-E, Tuberculosis, ... Illegal immigrants were being blamed for all of the state's economic problems. ... for Salmonella and Campylobacter infections they got from tainted food. ...

Our food source is in trouble from many different areas, and yet the Food and Drug Administration, whose job it is to warn the public about tainted spinach and contaminated peanut butter, is conducting just half the food safety inspections it did three years ago. (CNN)

In these countries the logic used in determining how to fertilize the soil is, “If it stinks it must be good.” Therefore the use of human fecal matter is not out of the question. There are supposedly federal guidelines requiring these exporting producers to adhere to our standards but again as in the case of Illegal Immigration, “We don’t care bout no stinkin laws.” --The Conservative Voice

Neurocysticercosis,
THE WASHINGTON TIMES , February 8, 2007, via Americans for Legal Immigration

Federal researchers say neurocysticercosis, a brain infection caused by a pork tapeworm, is a "growing public health problem in the United States," especially in states bordering Mexico, where the disease is endemic.

Neurocysticercosis is the "most common parasitic disease of the central nervous system," according to a study jointly conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and California public health officials, who reported that "international travel and immigration are bringing the disorder to areas where it is not endemic," such as this country.
"Neurocysticercosis is the primary cause of epilepsy in endemic areas. [snip]

A person infected with the intestinal tapeworm stage of the infection will shed tapeworm eggs in bowel movements. Tapeworm eggs that are accidentally swallowed by other people can cause infection, the CDC says in information about the disease at its Web site, www.cdc.gov. These eggs are spread through food, water or surfaces contaminated with feces. "So if you have people cooking for you or handling your food who are tapeworm carriers and don't have good personal hygiene, you will be exposed to the eggs of the tapeworm" and become infected by swallowing food they touch, Mr. Tsang explained.

Carriers tend to be people from rural developing countries with poor hygiene, where pigs are allowed to roam freely and eat human feces. Mr. Tsang said the condition is rife in Mexico and other parts of Latin America and Central America and "in a large part of China and Africa."

Clostridium botulinum, Listeria monocytogenes, salmonella, Forbes , February 19, 2007, via Liberty Post.org

The drumroll for tainted food continued Monday with a nationwide recall of Oscar Mayer chicken breast strips for bacterial contamination. The recall by Carolina Culinary Foods of West Columbia, S.C., involves 52,650 pounds of fully cooked chicken breasts produced on Jan. 9 and distributed nationwide to retailers. [snip]

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a sample of the meat tested in Georgia was contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause listeriosis, a rare but serious infection.

The chicken breast recall is the fourth food recall in a week. Fresh cantaloupe and selected jars of organic baby food were recalled late Friday, and a major recall of peanut butter was initiated late Wednesday after 300 people in 39 states were sickened.

In the case of the cantaloupes and peanut butter, the culprit was salmonella. The baby food was contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism. Both are life-threatening illnesses.

E-Coli, hemolytic-uremic syndrome, Fresh Plaza.com

The outbreaks together sickened 350 people - and killed three, including 2-year-old Kyle Allgood, an Idaho boy who died Sept. 20 at Primary Children's from hemolytic-uremic syndrome - nationwide [snip]

The strain of bacteria that caused the three recent outbreaks from leafy greens - E. coli O157:H7 - is a nasty pathogen that can bring severe illness, kidney failure and death.

The source for these diseases is feces, both human and animal, which taints the water, food, preparation surfaces in restaurant kitchens from dirty hands. No, not all of the above food contamination situations can be directly connected to illegal aliens, but some of them can. Some are connected to other countries such as Mexico, other Latin American countries, Costa Rica, and more.

Some (I won't mention them specifically here) have suggested that illegal aliens are intentionally contaminating crops in our fields and even go so far as to suggest they are contaminating food in restaurants. I have no proof of this. But we all need to be very careful, wash your hands, wash your food, try to find out where your food comes from.

On the FDA:

The cuts by the Food and Drug Administration come despite a barrage of high-profile food recalls.

"We have a food safety crisis on the horizon," said Michael Doyle, director of the Center for Food Safety at the University of Georgia. (Paging Dr. Gupta blog: Who's leading the food safety charge? )

Between 2003 and 2006, FDA food safety inspections dropped 47 percent, according to a database analysis of federal records by The Associated Press.

That's not all that's dropping at the FDA in terms of food safety. The analysis also shows:

• There are 12 percent fewer FDA employees in field offices who concentrate on food issues.

• Safety tests for U.S.-produced food have dropped nearly 75 percent, from 9,748 in 2003 to 2,455 last year, according to the agency's own statistics.

After the September 11 attacks, the FDA, at the urging of Congress, increased the number of food inspectors and inspections amid fears that the nation's food system was vulnerable to terrorists. Inspectors and inspections spiked in 2003, but now both have fallen enough to erase the gains. (source)

Can we depend on the government to keep our food supply safe and can we depend on the government to secure out borders? That is their job, isn't it? It's not just food contamination, it is diseases spread by sexual contact, blood, etc. that we also need to be concerned with.

More on the Nashville Muslim cabbie from Bear Creek Ledger

From the Tennessean (h/t Instapundit) we find out what the religious disagreement was about:

A Nashville cabbie made anti-Semitic statements and praised Adolph Hitler's campaign against Jews during a religious argument that culminated when he ran over one of the passengers as he left the taxi, witnesses said during a hearing today.

Mexican Trucks to the Rescue, Common Sense America

Apparently, American truckers have now joined the-jobs-Americans-won’t-do-club and are going to be replaced by Mexican trucks and drivers who will be able to freely cross our borders within the next two months. Mexican truck drivers who, not surprisingly, are willing to work for less than a third of what American drivers now earn. The average Mexican truck driver now earns an average of about $40,000 a year compared to an American owner-operator who earns approximately $150,000 a year.

Catch Illegal Immigrants - New York Times Game, from DeMediacratic Nation

From the editorial board over at the toilet "paper" of record:

"It's almost enough to make us nostalgic for streaking and sitting on flagpoles. College students from Michigan to Florida have found a new way to get attention, offend others and make a right-wing statement all at once. It's a game with a name that says it all: "Catch the Illegal Immigrant."

Guns of Navarette Fire Again, from DeMediacratic Nation

"Hopefully, at the end of it all, we'll have comprehensive immigration reform that gives illegal immigrants a path to legal residency. Until that happens, the popular view is that towns, cities, and states will take it upon themselves to try to end illegal immigration -- for better or worse."

"I'm ready for some better. I've seen plenty of the worse."

Bank of America’s Latest Credit Card “Missed Due Date” Scam

Update February 9, 2009: The worldwide financial crisis has made it harder on banks and credit card companies are facing rising delinquency rates and defaults. The problem of the moving due dates scam has only gotten worse. New Federal rules will go into effect in July of 2010. Until then you can expect an increase in this unethical practice. Read the following article for important details and then read today’s update: Bank Credit Cards and the Moving Due Dates Scam

Original Article Starts Here:

While the Bank of America defends its program of catering to illegal immigrants by offering credit cards to those who lack both a Social Security number and a credit history, it appears to have found another way to pay for this costly policy.

The Bank of America, the 5th most profitable company in the world, is once again playing with the credit history of those American citizens who have the best credit history. The BOA is now punishing its most consistent paying and low risk customers!

RED FLAG!!! RED FLAG!!! RED FLAG!!!

If you have a very low-interest BOA credit card, this warning is for you!

You probably feel very unconcerned because you’ve set up an automatic bill pay to pay 2-3 days ahead of the due date, right? Wrong. You can easily be a Bank of America target!

The BOA appears to have deliberately designed a billing system to periodically generate payment due dates that are 5 to 6 days earlier than normal in an effort to catch automatic bill payers in a missed due date scam! As soon as the earlier than normal bill pay date is missed, your credit card interest rate will zoom up to as much as 25% and you will be assessed a whopping $39 late fee.

BOA pulled this stunt in October 2006 and again this January. A friend who knows that I’m a blogger wanted me to alert all Americans to this highly unethical practice. I was allowed to inspect his consistent payment records and saw that his last scheduled due date was January 6th, so you would expect that the next scheduled due date would have been February 6th. The BOA, however, suddenly squeezed the next scheduled due date back to January 31st. This trap generated a sudden jump in his interest rate and a big late fee.

My friend’s attempts to get satisfaction from calling Customer Satisfaction have been totally unsatisfactory. He moved up the call ladder and asked for a manager. That has been met with typical responses: “He’s not in this office today,” or “You can be assured that he will return your call.” NOT!!!

Bank of America’s ready explanation is that the due date is printed on every statement. Well, what if you happen to be out of town when this sudden due date jump occurs? I’d like to see someone in Congress sponsor a bill that would force credit card companies to give ample notice (say 3 months) before changing a due date.

Here are some typical complaints lodged this past month with Consumer Affairs.com:

David of Buford GA (01/31/07)Long term customer with BOA (5 years) and
have 7 accounts with them from Savings to LOC. I signed up for a promotional
rate on a balance transfer to their credit card. 7 months for 1.99%. Transfer
several thousand dollars and have been incorrectly billed every month for 6
months. Each month I make a 45 minute call to Credit Card Services and each
month they admit the mistake and then credit me the difference for the
mis-charged interest. This month they admitted the mistake but said that we
refuse to credit the interest because they had done it every other month. They
refused to abide by the terms of the contract.

Erin of Sterling Heights MI (01/29/07)
We have been a good
paying customer with Bank of America since 2004; in Feb 2006 they made a policy
change that if a payment is not paid AND POSTED on the due date a late fee will
be applied. Since this time I have had nothing but problems, the computer system
will not allow for same day payments and many times we are paid the same day as our due date. We have paid over $200.00 in late payments in 2006 almost all of
these payments I made the day it was due and yet it posts the next day or two
days later. Then we are slapped with a $39.00 late fee. Twice they have
increased the interest rate from 11.99 to 24.99. They have only adjusted the
late payment twice and the interest rate charge once. . .

Bruce & Cindy of Soledad CA (01/29/07)
On 1/20/06, we went online to make a direct payment from our Bank of America account to our B of A credit card. Our due date was 12/23/06, so we knew that we had plenty of time to make the payment. On 12/26/06, I checked our account online & the account was showing the payment was returned unpaid with a $39.00 return check fee & a $39.00 late fee. I promptly called them & we were told that the checking account number was entered wrong. I told them I had a confirmation number & for them to fax me the transaction. They told us they could not provide that info.

We accepted this offer because of the 0% interest through 9/07.
They are now charging us 7.9% & 19.9% interest. There is no way it should
take 6 days to process a payment that's linked directly into your bank account.
They waited 6 days to process so we would be past our due date & lose our 0%
interest rate. Our checking account number was entered correctly & they
can't provide us otherwise. This has caused extreme financial stress on us.

The list of complaints goes on, but you get the point. I wish someone out there with some knowledge could explain a simple strategy to keep this from happening. In the mean time, spread this information far and wide and either get rid of your Bank of American credit card, or set up several automatic payments monthly.

Update: My friend just told me that he finally found a manager at BOA who was able to correct the situation. After reviewing my friend’s excellent payment history, the manager agreed to correct the situation by removing the late fees and returning the interest rate to the earlier low rate. Additionally, the manager said that he understood what it looked like to consumers, but that this was not the case. He said that for accounting purposes, they must sometimes squeeze payments in order to get twelve payments within the year. My friend pointed out that BOA should give ample notice to credit card customers when they anticipate a future jump-back in due dates.

Oh you will love this . . . My friend, a big blog reader, told the manager. “I see that BOA is getting into hot water over their policies of offering credit cards to those who lack both a Social Security number and a credit history.”

The manager told him that Bank of America is really catching big heat from the Blogosphere about the illegal immigrants, and that they are reading the blogs daily!!!

Good work and Hat Tip to Uncooperative Blogger and Liberally Conservative for keeping the BOA plan for illegal immigrant credit cards on the front burner!

Note: Kenneth D. Lewis is Chairman, Chief executive officer, and President of Bank of America.

As CEO of Bank of America, Lewis leads one of the world's largest
financial institutions, the fifth most profitable company in the world and the
sixth most highly valued company in the world by market capitalization as of
December 31, 2005. Bank of America serves 55 million consumers and business
clients through almost 5,900 retail banking offices in the U.S., corporate
banking offices in 150 countries, almost 17,000 ATMs and the #1 online banking
and bill-paying service in the nation.

Update November 25, 2007: More banks are pulling the following scam so after reading this article, please read You and Credit Card Due Date Roulette, which explains how you can pay one credit card late and suddenly all of your credit cards make an outrageous jump in interest rates!!! It’s called the Universal Default Clause.
