"Just Like They Run The Country"
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
***************
A
few weeks ago, as I sat in front of my TV watching the three ring
circus, otherwise known as the Democratic National Convention, I
couldn't help but think: The democrats were running their convention much as they have tried to run the country.
They promptly ran it off the road and into a ditch. They spent money
they didn't have. They promised grandiose and splendid events that did
not happen. They planned a bodacious speaking event in a humongous area
which would seat upwards of seventy thousand persons, only to realize
they were not going to have enough people interested in what their
candidate for President had to say to come anywhere near to filling up
that stadium.
To TRY to save face, they announced the event
would be moved to a much smaller venue which would seat only twenty
thousand persons. That's about a third of the crowd they had promised
the media would be in fawning attendance to listen rapturously to their
Messiah -- Barack Hussein Obama.
Of course, they spent money as if there were no tomorrow and -- quickly ran out of funds.
They
railed against Big Business and Corporate America while standing on a
stage in a convention hall that had been paid for by one of the largest
corporations in America. Talk about hypocrisy!
They
removed any mention of God from their party platform and then refused to
recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel only to be
forced to return that language on "orders," we are told, from President
Obama.
Those who presented speeches seemed to all hail from the
far left of their party, which indicated they had written off the
independent voters and were hell-bent on trying to overcome the GOP with
only their base consisting of minority and special interest groups.
And they lied ... a LOT! Even when the truth was shown and heard over and over on video tape and on audio tape. They lied when they did not have to lie.
In an article by Alan Caruba entitled:
"The DNC's Orgy of Lies and Hypocrisy" Mr. Caruba said: "So far there
is little to be believed in the course of the Democratic Party
convention. It is a great concoction of half-truths, distortions, and
outright lies. The hypocrisy fills the convention hall like the musk of a
dead, decaying animal corpse." SOURCE: http://www.factsnotfantasy.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-dncs-orgy-of-lies-and-hypocrisy.html
It
was, all in all, an embarrassing event, especially for the old-line
liberal democrats, the moderate democrats, and the hand-full of
conservative democrats. They HAD to be badly shaken while hastily
attempting to distance themselves from the kooks and loons so prominent
in the meeting hall.
It seemed as if they were throwing everything against the wall -- to see what would stick. It
smacked of ineptitude from opening day... in much the same way they
have been governing (or TRYING to govern) the country over the past
nearly four years.
And to put the cherry on the top, they ran out to the speaker's lectern a man -- who is only the second American President in the history of the United States to be impeached
-- to endorse and try to convince Americans to give Obama another shot
at completing those policies that will destroy the country.
But you remember all this, right? It was only a month ago. But
a month is a very long time when the propaganda machine the left has on
its side, otherwise known as the Mainstream Media, is screaming
full-throated endorsement of the Socialist/Marxist Agenda of Obama and
the Democratic Party.
The DNC Convention was surreal and the democratic campaign since has been surreal.
The polls touted everyday by the MsM showing that the democratic ticket is running away with the election are awesome in their audacity. The numbers just do not seem to equate with what's happening on the ground in much of the country -- and the voters KNOW it.
Those
of us who have spent our working lives in communications know that
polls can be easily skewed to present the result(s) the person or entity
purchasing the poll desires. There are even those who specialize in
doing just that. It's a sort of, well, art form.
The democratic convention was funny in a way that elicited nervous laughter from TV viewers across the nation and the world. And it may very well have sealed the election for Mr. Obama's opponent.
I
found myself wishing there was a way to convince the democrats to
extend their convention as long as possible because it became clear,
early on, that the Democratic National Convention was the best thing to
happen for the GOP in the campaign up to that point.
As
the President droned on and on, that Thursday night, it became even
more clear that this election would be the democratic base against the
republican base. If an independent, here and there, decided for -- or
against -- either of the candidates that would be gravy. But, by and
large, the campaigns are a call to arms for the respective bases of each
party.
If either side got a legitimate "bounce" from their
conventions it was so small as to be inconsequential to the over all
campaigns.
Political conventions resemble dinosaurs these days.
In this age of instant communications maybe the dems would have been
better served by texting for a "flash mob" at the Obama speaking venue
that Thursday night. At least they would have had a crowd and would not
have had to change the location to save face. But then, hindsight is,
as they say, 20/20.
Here it is, a month since the 2012 Democratic Party convention, and I simply cannot understand why any independent voter would still hesitate to join the republican fight to restore America.
But America has a problem that far exceeds our political and economics problems.
THAT
problem became more than a little obvious, when the attendees at the
Dems' convention "booed" the return of "God" to their party's platform. America also has a deep MORAL problem.
I would agree with Dante Alighieri, an Italian poet back in the Middle Ages, who said: "The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis."
I remain convinced that this election is about the preservation of a FREE America. I am just as convinced that we cannot do that if Obama is handed a second term.
Frank Lloyd Wright summed it up very well when he said: "A
free America... means just this: individual freedom for all, rich or
poor, or else this system of government we call democracy is only an
expedient to enslave man to the machine and make him like it."
Mr. Wright gave all Americans something to think about for the next month. Will we be free -- or will we be slaves. It's time to stand up and be counted. Your country needs you.
