Shush! Don’t Spread that Phrase Around!

Last night’s presidential debate made Joe the Plumber famous. His name was invoked well over twenty times by both candidates. Now it’s quite possible that Joe Wurzelbacher could actually win the election for McCain.

Last weekend Obama told Joe the plumber in Ohio that income redistribution is good. Obama was fielding some questions from the crowd and Joe had some pretty tough ones for Obama. Unfortunately for Obama, his remarks were caught on camera.

According to Fox News this is what Joe asked and what Obama answered.

"Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?" the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed "more and more for fulfilling the American dream."

"It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too," Obama responded. "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

“I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
“I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
“I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Really? One commentator on Fox quipped that the first time anyone ever heard that phrase, “it came from Karl Marx.” Spreading the wealth around is basic Marxist Income Redistribution 101.

Well apparently this morning the NBC Today show, which seems to take its marching orders from the Obama campaign, didn’t think the public really needed to hear that phrase. They showed portions of the clip three different times, but somehow that little phrase of Obama’s just didn’t make the cut.

Doesn’t spreading the wealth around sound like a nice thing to do for everybody? People who can afford more should pay more, right? The problem with kindly income redistribution phraseology is that it has such a nice ring to it even though it’s a sweet-sounding dose of economic suicide.

Unfortunately, the reality of income redistribution is that it kills work incentive. More importantly, it kills job creation incentive. The people most likely to vote for income redistribution schemes are those who think a little extra $$$ might just come their way. For example, if Obama’s tax cut plan for 95% of Americans includes the 1/3 of all Americans that don’t pay any taxes at all, then those folks should be getting checks from the IRS. That’s something for nothing! Not bad work if you can get it, right? But in reality somebody always has to pay.

Meanwhile, those folks who can afford more, the nations’ small business employers like Joe the Plumber, have no incentive to create more jobs. Tax cuts for 95% of Americans won’t hold much water if there are no jobs!

This month Chief Executive Magazine polled 751 CEO’s. Like them or not, CEO’s are our nation’s job creators. They prefer John McCain to Barack Obama 4-to-1.

According to the poll, which is featured on the cover of Chief Executive’s most recent issue, by a four-to-one margin, CEOs support Senator John McCain over Senator Barack Obama. Moreover, 74 percent of the executives say they fear that an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country.

Yes - an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country!

  4. Obama says "spread the wealth". Yes, the Democrats want to "spread the wealth" but not to the poor.

Democrats want to "spread the wealth" to their unions, to their buddies who bring "development" to the city, to their organizations who provide "services" to the poor, and to the businesses who hire illegal immigrants.

The earth is flat and Democrats are for poor people.

The "affordable" housing that Democrats pushed onto poor people included interest only and variable rate loans that are easier to default on and wreck your credit.

The schools that Democrats push onto poor people graduate only half of the kids in Chicago and in Baltimore only 33% of the kids who want to graduate can pass 9th grade level tests. I've heard that 75% of African American males drop out of school in Baltimore City. They compete with illegal immigrants for jobs in 1 of the 4 states that allow illegal immigrants to obtain drivers licenses.

In Chicago, the first Walmart that finally opened in 2006 after intense union opposition, received 15,850 applications for 450 jobs. http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/73731,CST-NWS-walmart27.article

No, Democrats don't like poor people. They use poor people like a commodity to enrich their unions, enrich their buddies who bring "development" to the city, enrich their organizations who provide "services" to the poor, and enrich the businesses that save money and get around the Democrat's excessive regulation of the work place by hiring illegal immigrants.

If poor people had any idea how much money is supposedly spent on their behalf and NEVER reaches them, I believe they wouldn't vote for Democrats for a generation.

  9. Linked to this post - that "redistribution" of my hard-earned money is a wonderful thing for them that don't earn it, they can just vote it out of my pocket into theirs. We need to change that...

  11. Dusty, you are an idiot and evidently don't know diddle about business. Many business , especially construction businesses actually "BILL" $250k or more a year and are considered a small business. You can bill that much business and after paying overhead, and salaries you will be lucky to make $75K. It would probalby be closer to $60K if you are real lucky. As far as the grocery on the corner but he grosses $250K a month unless he is a very small store and so what he drives an old truck. He might just be smarter than an idiot like you who probably makes less than 30K and drives a Lexus for show.
I suggest you gain some real business experience before coming back and showing us just how really stupid you are. Your comments I am sure would get you lots of applause on Kos or moveon.idiot

  12. The LSM and the Obamazombies are desperate because they know that Obama shot himself in the foot with his comment to Joe. (That's what happens when the empty suit is not on telepromter) . They are already attacking Joe and somehow try to make him a non threat.
