Virtual Border Watch Update

Texas Border Watch: I watched the cameras for about 10 minutes early this morning during the dark. There are only nine camera thumbnails showing today. Two cameras are apparently down from yesterday. Same issues as reported yesterday (See yesterday’s blog entry). New issue: Click on thumbnail for camera 9 and camera 7 pops up.

Cameras placed in undeveloped areas are blank. Cameras placed in lighted areas or on a well-traveled road are apparently showing still photos, but there is no way of knowing how much time has actually passed since the photos were taken. There is no time stamp for the image or “refresh image” button to click for a new image. The cameras do not appear to refresh images very often. Perhaps photos are taken randomly? A new still image did appear while I was watching one of the cameras, but that same still image remained for almost 10 minutes. Not too helpful at all.

  1. Thanks for posting your experiences with the Virtual Border Watch. It saves me the trouble bothering until they fix the bugs.

  2. I'm still waiting for my password to log in....I attempted to reregister and it wouldn't let me. There are either swamped with registrations or there is a glitch in the system somewhere.

"Conspiracy Theory 101" : Is this a Perry plot so it LOOKS like he is doing something to secure our borders.....it is election year and all! What with his TTC proposal it wouldn't seem securing our borders it a top priorty for him!!

  3. The web site does have problems, but it's brand new, and they are responding to suggestions.

They now permit you to choose your own password, which makes it a whole lot easier to remember.

Also, I noticed quick response by a patrol vehicle after I reported something.

I did not observe any "still" photos.

All the views I saw were live action.

The web site is providing detailed answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

There are glitches - - - cameras are out of focus, pictures aren't clear, and they still need to create a workable full-screen option.

But, at least they're doing something, and they're getting John Q. Citizen involved.

  4. i guess i just lucked out b/c when i registered i got the email with my password in less than a minute.

The problem with only 9 cams listed was there and camera 8 & 9 took me to camera 7 feed. But, other than that, cameras 1-7 refreshed every few seconds and all in all, i was impressed. (i came in with really LOW expectations :-)

When i checked the cams the first time it was well after dark and they all (well the 7 functioning cameras) seemed to be working okay.

i figured my refresh rate was just due to my connection speed but it sounds like i may have just hit it when there wasn't much traffic.
