Commentary by James H. Shott
Among the thousands of email messages being passed around are two that combine for a thought-provoking scenario. Both have been edited a little, and shortened, but the gist of them is intact:
To all the kids who survived the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s
We survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
And we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps on our heads, not helmets.
As infants and children we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, and no air bags. Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose, not from a bottle. Four friends drank one soft drink from the same bottle, and no one got sick or died.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight.
Why? Because we were always outside playing. When we weren’t in school we would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. We were out of touch with mom all day, and we were okay.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill; only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video tapes or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers.
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits resulting from these accidents. We were given BB guns for our birthday, played “Army,” and “cowboys and Indians.”
Sports teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. And the idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
Those generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
Thanksgiving 2022
"Winston, come into the dining room, it's time to eat," Julia yelled to her husband. "In a minute, honey, it's a tie score," he answered.
Actually, Winston wasn't very interested in the traditional holiday football game. Ever since the government passed the Civility in Sports Statute of 2017, outlawing tackle football for its "unseemly violence," Winston was far less of a football fan than he used to be. Two-hand touch wasn't nearly as exciting.
Yet it was more the thought of eating another tofu turkey that Winston dreaded. Even though it was the best type of veggie-meat available after the government revised the American Anti-Obesity Act of 2018, adding fowl to the list of federally-forbidden foods, (which included potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce), it wasn't anything like real turkey.
And ever since the government officially changed the name of "Thanksgiving Day" to "A National Day of Atonement" in 2020, the holiday had lost a lot of its appeal.
Eating in the dining room was also a bit weird, due to the unearthly glow of government-mandated CFL light bulbs that made the tofu turkey look even worse, and the room was always cold, since Congress passed the Power Conservation Act of 2016, mandating all thermostats - which were monitored - be kept at 64 degrees in the fall and winter.
Winston missed his mother, who passed on in October, when she had used up her legal allotment of life-saving medical treatment. He had had many heated conversations with the Regional Health Consortium, spawned when the private insurance market finally went bankrupt, and everyone was forced into the government health care program. "Your mother received all the benefits to which she was entitled,” he was told. “I'm sorry for your loss."
Brother Ed couldn't make it, either. He had forgotten to plug in his electric car last night, mandated after the Anti-Fossil Fuel Bill of 2021 outlawed the use of the combustion engines.
Yet the family still had things to be thankful for, Winston thought. And, he had his memories.
But he felt sadness when he realized his children would never know what life was like in the Good Old Days. He wondered what might have happened if the public had stood up while there was still time, maybe back around 2011, when most of the real nonsense began.
"Maybe we wouldn't be where we are today if we'd just said 'enough is enough' when we had the chance," he thought.
Maybe so, Winston. Maybe so.

The Deal That Wasn't
The Deal That Wasn't
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
First, understand that the debt ceiling deal passed by our politicians earlier this weak did not solve a thing. NADA! All it did is slow America’s destruction down just a wee bit. That’s all. Think: Armageddon scheduled for Wednesday is now rescheduled for oh, say … Friday.
America’s ruling class has set its aim on America’s middle class. We are headed, as straight as a Martin to its gourd, for a nation with only a ruling class and a lower class -- or a poverty stricken class of poor Americans with no hope of ever climbing out of their morass of crushing deprivation.
The debt limit bill only guarantees our demise as a great power and as my old “Pappy” used to say: “greased the skids.”
A few of us old “hardheads” have been warning for decades that America simply could not continue to tax and spend and tax and spend without, sooner or later, over extending and collapsing. We were, of course, “pooh-poohed” or made fun of, and in a myriad of ways had our warnings stifled.
Now, we shall see who laughs last. Problem is – its no laughing matter!
As the scales have begun to fall from the eyes of Americans, since the “deal” was struck earlier this week, more and more are waking up to the abysmal “deal that wasn’t.” Well, maybe it was a deal for somebody, but it sure as heck is no deal for Americans.
A report from Rasmussen on Wednesday, August 3rd, entitled: “Just 22% Approve of Debt Ceiling Deal, Most Doubt It Will Cut Spending” reports the following: “Most voters disapprove of the debt ceiling agreement reached by the president and Congress earlier this week and most doubt it will actually reduce government spending.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 22% of Likely Voters nationwide approve of the agreement while 53% disapprove. Twenty-six percent (26%) are not sure.”
Rasmussen goes on to say: “Republicans and unaffiliated voters disapproved by a 4-to-1 margin. Democrats are fairly evenly divided with 34% favoring the deal and 40% opposed.
Conservative voters strongly oppose the deal while liberals are evenly divided. By a 51% to 20% margin, moderates disapprove.” (You may read the entire article HERE.)
The last paragraph grabbed my attention -- especially the report that MODERATES disapprove by a huge margin of 51 to 20 percent!
OK. By now, I expect you are wondering why I continue to harp on this abomination of a debt ceiling deal. Because, dear reader, come fall, the so-called “super committee” made up of republicans and democrats will begin meeting to try to come up with oh, about a trillion and a half of MORE spending cuts.
So what’s wrong with that? Sounds like a good idea, right? Well, as with most things or government comes up with, the devil is in the details, and/or the fine print.
Surely, you do NOT believe that a dozen politicians, evenly split between the two parties, are going to be able to agree to spending cuts that both the House and the Senate will approve? If you do, you have way more faith in our two party system than yours truly.
It is simply not going to happen. And when they create a loggerhead on the spending cuts (and rest assured they WILL!), then TAXES will be back on the table … lots of TAXES! Why? Because nobody in the government wants to attack the entitlement programs and/or the military to wring out more money to run the government. Since the money must come from somewhere and the printing of more paper money will create raging inflation on top of the recession/depression, well – the obvious alternative is TAXATION. And, of course, that’s when it all hits the fan, once again.
The remainder of this year is going to be one very long wrestling match between those who want fiscal sanity in our national government and an overall smaller government, with less government intrusion in the lives of American citizens, and those who want to continue, like lemmings, racing toward the cliff of financial collapse for America and her citizens.
I don’t think we will see any meaningful spending cuts as long as the democrats control the Senate and the White House. In fact, I am convinced that if American voters don’t send the democrats packing, along with a few liberal/moderate republicans and RINOS, in November of 2012, we may STILL find ourselves in a state of financial bankruptcy that will require generations to overcome.
Prepare for one long, protracted, “slugfest” until the elections of 2012. Depending upon the results of that election, America’s long nightmare may very well continue.

Obama Parties While Our Troops Starve
By Findalis of Monkey in the Middle
Hat Tip to Iggymom
Today President Barack Hussein Obama will be celebrating his 50th birthday with a mega-million dollar bash costing each guest $35,800 each. Each person will be well fed you can assure.
Today members of the military in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and other overseas locations will not be well fed. They will be short of food, short of water, short of ammo, short of toiletries. In fact they are being systematically wiped out by their own government.
As you can see by the pictures, the shelves in the makeshift PX are empty. The few items are suppose to be available to a whole base of hundreds, not for a few men and women.
Our troops deserve better. Much better. Like it or not liberals, we are fighting a war, not a police action, not a containment, but a war. Our fighting men and women deserve to be fed properly, given good, clean water, enough ammunition to do the job. And they need the kid gloves to be removed! So what if they wake up a village with gunfire? They are cleaning the area of the enemy and making it a better place for the locals. Who really cares if they point their weapons at a "civilian"? If your enemy dresses and hides behind the "civilians" then the "civilians" will be hurt, or have guns pointed at them.
While President Obama stuffs his face with gourmet treats, don't let our men suffer. It isn't right. Call your Congressman, your Senator, let them know how angry you are about this.
If you are really generous you can send a care package to our troops. The Campaign Store has "Care Packages" for all budgets. From the small individual pack to the battalion pack, each one helps our troops.
This is just a sample of what our troops will receive. Just a few moments here and you will make a soldier's life a little brighter. And that is all that really matters.
Thank you and may G-d Bless!

A Special Message from
Debbie Lee,
Gold Star Mother
In Loving Memory of Marc Alan Lee, US Navy SEAL
Dear friends, I’m writing this to you as an emergency response to an extremely urgent problem developing for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan right now…
This week I received a very concerning letter from a longtime supporter and mother of a deployed soldier. It seems like our current Commander-in-Chief, after snatching up credit for killing Osama bin Laden, has now forgotten the remaining 120,000 soldiers abroad that are serving their country by fighting a deadly war against terrorism. Help us show the troops that Americans have not forgotten about the sacrifices they are constantly making and thank them for their courageous patriotism by sending a much needed care package!
Unfortunately, the media only covers the sensational stories and it looks like the government neglecting our troops in combat deployment is just not that interesting of a story. On Monday I received this letter that just turned my stomach:
I mentioned to you that my son would soon be deploying to Afghanistan for the first time. He is now 21 and has been there for almost three weeks. It has been tense at times but he loves his country and believes in his mission. You asked that I let you know his units address and you would be sure that care packages were sent. We have been sending one a week and have asked Chris (our son) to please share as well as let us know who in his unit hasn’t received anything and we will be sure they are taken care of. Mail is slow so we don’t have those names yet.
I guess since Obama has announced the draw down the PX’s are no longer stocking much so my son has asked for the bare personal hygiene items that one would think they would have. In other words, everything is appreciated.

Well, Congress passed it, and now we are
finding out what is in it
Commentary by James H. Shott
On March 9, 2010, speaking to the Legislative Conference for the National Association of Counties about the health care reform bill, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it ..."
Ms. Pelosi was oblivious to the high degree of arrogance in her statement, and the contempt it displayed for the America taxpayers who pay her salary, and so were her fellow travelers in Congress and the fawning liberals in the main stream media. But it was not lost on most of the American people.
Even though no one knew all of the horrors contained in the 2,700-page document – because no one had had the time to read the thing before it was voted on, including those who voted for it – the measure still managed to garner the opposition of a majority of Americans.
The amended version’s narrow margin of passage in the House of Representatives – 219 to 212 – reflects the unpopularity of the measure, with 34 Democrats joining all of the Republicans in opposing the bill. But the final vote also shows the effects of the 59 percent Democrat majority in the House that dragged the bill across the line, despite the objection of voters.
The bad news continues to roll in, although if you depend upon the main stream media for information, you likely don’t know that.
Citing data from the Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Establishment Survey/Haver Analytics, the Heritage Foundation addressed Obamacare’s effect on employment: “Between the recession’s low point in January 2009 and April 2010 net private sector job creation improved by 67,500 jobs a month. President Obama signed his health care legislation into law on March 23, 2010. After April 2010, the improvement in net private sector job creation stalled, dropping to just 6,500 jobs a month.”
The Heritage Foundation's Senior Policy Analyst James Sherk explains that the law discourages employers from hiring in several ways:
• Businesses with fewer than 50 workers have a strong incentive to maintain this size, which allows them to avoid the mandate to provide government-approved health coverage or face a penalty;
• Businesses with more than 50 workers will see their costs for health coverage rise—they must purchase more expensive government-approved insurance or pay a penalty; and
• Employers face considerable uncertainty about what constitutes qualifying health coverage and what it will cost. They also do not know what the health care market or their health care costs will look like in four years. This makes planning for the future difficult.
Kaiser Health News reported recently that contrary to promises of miraculous results from its passage, the health care reform bill will cause spending to grow faster than before the health care overhaul, and that “with that growth, the nation is expected to spend $4.6 trillion on health care in 2020, nearly double the $2.6 trillion spent last year.”
Kaiser based its report on information from the Medicare Office of the Actuary, and further reported that beginning in 2014 when the major coverage expansions of the health care law take effect, the number of Americans covered by their employer’s health insurance will increase to 170 million from 163 million last year, which tends to support the promise of health care reform that it would cover heretofore uninsured Americans.
However, the Medicare Actuary goes on to say that 2 million of those will drop off the roles as some of them age into Medicare, and others lose coverage as employers respond to increased costs.
They expect the penalty for high-cost “Cadillac” insurance plans to convince some employers to provide less generous insurance plans, while other employers in certain industries such as retail sales are expected to reclassify many full-time employees as part-time, allowing the employer to escape the substantial expense of health insurance plans under Obamacare. Further, some large employers with low-wage employees are expected to discontinue offering health insurance to their workers and instead pay the penalty mandated in the Affordable Care Act.
When major provisions of the law go into effect in 2014, the actuaries project a spending increase of 8.3 percent. And as more individuals qualify for Medicare, that program’s spending is predicted to increase by more than 20 percent. “For 2015-20,” according to the actuaries, “national health spending growth is projected to average 6.2 percent per year.”
Furthermore, Obamacare requires the creation of at least 159 new federal commissions and boards for healthcare reform. And a new analysis by the Joint Economic Committee and the House Ways & Means Committee minority staff estimates up to 16,500 new IRS personnel will be needed to collect, examine and audit new tax information mandated on families and small businesses in the reform legislation – just what we need in this economy: more federal employees and red tape.
This boondoggle has few advantages and a multitude of negatives. It is another Obama promise that not only hasn’t materialized, but does real harm to the country. The manner in which it was passed was scandalous and un-seemly, and it must be repealed as soon as possible.

Same Old GOP -- All Bark And No Bite
Same Old GOP -- All Bark And No Bite
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
Did you ever see an old dog that would bark and growl and bark and growl so long as your back was to him? But the instant you turned and confronted the snarling creature – it would drop its tail between its legs and sllnk off into the darkness under the porch?
As a lad I had a friend with a dog like that. On one of my fairly regular visits to his home, I did not see nor hear the dog. I asked him what happened to his dog. He replied. “We got rid of him. He was all bark and no bite, anyway. He wasn’t worth the cost of feeding him.” I didn’t press the issue for I fear I would have learned that the Lord had called the poor thing home.
See, I know I shouldn’t have actually EXPECTED the republicans to put up a real fight against Obama and his socialist apparatchik in the Senate. But, you know, hope springs eternal … right? Yeah, R I G H T.
The plain truth is: The GOP got its clock cleaned by the democrats in the debt ceiling debate and the Faustian deal the GOP actually agreed to. Oh, House leaders are going to attempt to impress us with the fight they put up. Give me a break! I had worst fights as a kid with my brother! We didn’t just exchange insulting words … we beat the snot out of each other with our fists. Now that’s a debate!
As a conservative, I find it nearly impossible to remain in the Republican Party. I have the necessary paperwork from the State Board of elections to change my political party affiliation. Problem is, at least for me, in NC you cannot register as an “Independent.” You are: “Unaffiliated.” I don’t like being described as politically unaffiliated!
Having said that … allow me to go a step further and say that I think it is time the Tea Party to take the necessary steps to become a full blown political party in the US. As it is, the Tea Party has a lot of clout -- but not nearly enough. I think it is past time for the members and supporters of the Tea Party to insist that the political organization make the leap and become the official “Third Party” in America.
I’m sure many of you will not agree. And that’s fine. If I had a problem with folks disagreeing with me I would have stopped making comments on the news and current events oh, about 40 years ago.
I’m tired. Tired of supporting the insanity of the GOP. Insanity, they say, is continuing to do the same thing over and over again, while expecting a different outcome each time. That is what I see the GOP doing, over and over and over… ad infinitum. After 50 years as a republican, I am sick of it.
No matter how many conservatives there are in the Republican Party, we will never be treated as equals in intellect or breeding. We will ALWAYS be treated as the redheaded stepchild. If there was ever any doubt about that, this latest dust-up with the democrats over the debt ceiling amply demonstrated how the GOP will use the power of the conservatives to either get what they want, or use conservative power in a kabuki theatre production in hopes of creating a smoke screen to cover their smoozing with the democrats just to hang on to the trappings and perks of political office and the power that goes with it. In that way, they are no different than the democrats.
When the wheeling and dealing is done, conservatives are once again told to take their seats and shut up.
Look. This deal with the President and the Senate on the debt ceiling was not a victory for the GOP. Please don’t buy into the propaganda flowing like rivers from the seat of our national legislature. If you DO feel it is a victory for the GOP or for America, get back to me in a few months. I expect you will have ample time for reality to set in -- in a few weeks or months -- when it becomes clear Americans have been shafted … again.
What America actually got was nothing more than a lot of promises. Promises that we would be fools to count on. The deal is nothing more than a mutual agreement between the two parties that guarantees the continuation of the monumental spending spree that is crushing the life out of Americans.
The GOP has now emboldened Obama and the democrats to hit the campaign with renewed vigor and vitality building on THEIR victory in the debt ceiling deal.
In my opinion, the GOP has just handed the 2012 election to Obama -- with a very good chance the democrats will retake the House of Representatives AND gain more seats in the Senate.
Unless there is a miracle and a true conservative emerges as the republican candidate for President in 2012, conservatives are going to stay home … again! Bet on it.
Rather than celebrating, Americans should be preparing for a deepening recession and/or a depression equal to that of the 1920s and 30’s. Oh, it’s going to get a lot worse and rather quickly, too.
With America at its weakest in six or seven decades, we are quickly becoming an alluring target for our enemies. Already Russia, and China are flexing their muscles. Iran will certainly take advantage of our inability to interfere with their plans for hegemony in the Middle East.
These are perilous times for America. And we are leaderless.

GOP “Flim-Flamed” AGAIN By The Dems!
GOP “Flim-Flamed” AGAIN By The Dems!
Obama gets his debt ceiling raised… GOP gets PROMISES!
Democrats Raping and Pillaging of America to Continue!
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
Is there a “stupid” gene we republicans have that democrats don’t? Are we born with a warped DNA that, somehow, forces us to fall for the oldest democrat trick in the book time, after time, after time? Are republicans “hard-wired” to play the fool at the democrats beckoning?
Why in the world would any conservative in his or her right mind vote for the debt-ceiling bill agreed upon Sunday? WHY?
The bill offers nothing but a royal involuntary fornication of the GOP and the American people who sent a flock of conservative republicans to the US House to put a stop to just this sort of flim-flam the democrats have been perpetrating on the nation for decades!
Why the heck aren’t the conservative representatives doing their jobs? Have they all come down with “Potomac Fever?” If so, there is definitely a cure. Send them all back to where they came from and select a whole new batch of conservative candidates for the primaries next year!
Yeah, I am outraged that the Speaker of the House even agreed to bring this bill up before the House. It is NOT WORTHY of consideration.
The promises of future spending cuts are not worth the paper they are written upon. In fact the paper is worth far MORE. History teaches us that – in SPADES!
We conservatives have been “had” too many times to bend over and assume the position for the democrats – AGAIN! But – they did.
Look. The Mainstream Media will be crowing about what a heck of a great deal this is coming out of Obama and Reid’s senate. Bet on it! Rest assured – if the Mainstream Media is for it – then conservative republicans ought to be against it.
We conservatives have lost more than our money with this deceitful bill. We may have just lost the election of 2012 – in advance! That means the democrats get to continue their spending spree and financial chaos in the US is assured.
There no REAL spending cuts in the bill. And that tiny amount that IS in the bill will be spread over ten years. For all intents and purposes, nothing, I mean NOTHING has changed in Washington.
Also worrisome is that roughly 50% of the cuts will come out of our national defense budget. That is mindless. The men and women in our armed forces, protecting us around the world, must have everything they need, when they need it, where they need it, and in as great a quantity as they need to keep America safe. End of discussion.
I, along with a large number of Americans, am beginning to wonder if our government is so broken it can never be repaired. When you send enough men and women to the House of Representatives with a commission to stop the democrat’s raping and pillaging of our country -- and they can’t seem to screw-up enough courage to accomplish their mission, then, certainly, SOMETHING is drastically wrong with our system of government.
P.J. O’Rourke once said: “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.” He was spot on. Just look at the incompetents we have in our government from the White House through both houses of Congress.
As I observe this latest power play by the democrats that will insure they will continue their wild spending until the total collapse of this nation, I can hear the warning of Barry Goldwater reverberating off the walls of history: “A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away.”
And there is this pearl of wisdom from Richard Lamm: “Christmas is the time when kids tell Santa what they want and adults pay for it. Deficits are when adults tell government what they want and their kids pay for it.”
It won’t be just our kids who will pay for it – but our grandkids and our great-grandkids. That is, of course, if America survives, in some form, long enough.
It’s a black day for America’s future.
J. D. Longstreet
